Download or read book Predicting the T2K Neutrino Flux and Measuring Oscillation Parameters written by Tomislav Vladisavljevic and published by Springer. This book was released on 2020-12-23 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis reports the calculation of neutrino production for the T2K experiment; the most precise a priori estimate of neutrino production that has been achieved for any accelerator-based neutrino oscillation experiment to date. The production of intense neutrino beams at accelerator facilities requires exceptional understanding of chains of particle interactions initiated within extended targets. In this thesis, the calculation of neutrino production for T2K has been improved by using measurements of particle production from a T2K replica target, taken by the NA61/SHINE experiment. This enabled the reduction of the neutrino production uncertainty to the level of 5%, which will have a significant impact on neutrino oscillation and interaction measurements by T2K in the coming years. In addition to presenting the revised flux calculation methodology in an accessible format, this thesis also reports a joint T2K measurement of muon neutrino and antineutrino disappearance, and the accompanying electron neutrino and antineutrino appearance, with the updated beam constraint.

This book was released on 2020-08-19 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This proceedings book discusses state-of-the-art research on uncertainty quantification in mechanical engineering, including statistical data concerning the entries and parameters of a system to produce statistical data on the outputs of the system. It is based on papers presented at Uncertainties 2020, a workshop organized on behalf of the Scientific Committee on Uncertainty in Mechanics (Mécanique et Incertain) of the AFM (French Society of Mechanical Sciences), the Scientific Committee on Stochastic Modeling and Uncertainty Quantification of the ABCM (Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences) and the SBMAC (Brazilian Society of Applied Mathematics).
Download or read book LHC Physics written by T. Binoth and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-04-25 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring the phenomenology of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, LHC Physics focuses on the first years of data collected at the LHC as well as the experimental and theoretical tools involved. It discusses a broad spectrum of experimental and theoretical activity in particle physics, from the searches for the Higgs boson and physics beyond the Standard Model to studies of quantum chromodynamics, the B-physics sector, and the properties of dense hadronic matter in heavy-ion collisions. Covering the topics in a pedagogical manner, the book introduces the theoretical and phenomenological framework of hadron collisions and presents the current theoretical models of frontier physics. It offers overviews of the main detector components, the initial calibration procedures, and search strategies. The authors also provide explicit examples of physics analyses drawn from the recently shut down Tevatron. In the coming years, or perhaps even sooner, the LHC experiments may reveal the Higgs boson and offer insight beyond the Standard Model. Written by some of the most prominent and active researchers in particle physics, this volume equips new physicists with the theory and tools needed to understand the various LHC experiments and prepares them to make future contributions to the field.
Download or read book The Structure of the Nucleon written by Anthony W. Thomas and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2010-11-17 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the only stable baryon, the nucleon is of crucial importance in particle physics. Since the nucleon is a building block for all atomic nuclei, there is a need to analyse the its structure in order to fully understand the essential properties of all atomic nuclei. After more than forty years of research on the nucleon, both the experimental and theoretical situations have matured to a point where a synthesis of the results becomes indispensable. Here, A.W. Thomas and W. Weise present a unique report on the extensive empirical studies, theoretical foundations and the different models of the nucleon. The appendices provide an extensive summary of formulae needed in practical calculations. From the contents: electromagnetic structure of the nucleon, weak probes of nucleon structure, deep inelastic lepton scattering on the nucleon; elements of QCD, aspects of non-perturbative QCD, Chiral Symmetry and nucleon structure, models of the nucleon
