Book A Satellite Ion electron Collector

Download or read book A Satellite Ion electron Collector written by Elden C. Whipple and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of grid transparency, photoemission, and secondary emission on the currents measured by an ion-electron collector experiment flown on OGO I are examined in detail. The calculated grid transparencies agree with laboratory tests. The measured photocurrents as a function of angle of incidence i agree reasonably well with the calculated current assuming the yield is proportional to (cos i + sec i). Equations are derived for the effects or secondary emission on the background currents caused by particles with energies greater than 30 eV, from which the fluxes and yields may be at times be calculated. The energies of the primaries can be estimated from the calculated secondary yields.

Book Tropospheric and Ionospheric Effects on Global Navigation Satellite Systems

Download or read book Tropospheric and Ionospheric Effects on Global Navigation Satellite Systems written by Timothy H. Kindervatter and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-08-23 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tropospheric and Ionospheric Effects on Global Navigation Satellite Systems Explore atmospheric effects on radio frequency propagation in the context of Global Navigation Satellite System communication In Tropospheric and Ionospheric Effects on Global Navigation Satellite Systems, a team of distinguished researchers deliver an accessible and authoritative introduction to all scientifically relevant effects caused by the ionosphere and troposphere on GNSS RF signals. The book explores the origin of each type of propagation effect and explains it from a fundamental physical perspective. Each of the major methods used for the measurement, prediction, and mitigation of ionospheric and tropospheric effects on GNSS are discussed in detail. The authors also provide the mechanisms that drive ionization and plasma transport in the ionosphere, propagation phenomena (including scattering, absorption, and scintillations), and the predominant predictive models used to predict ionospheric propagation effects. With an emphasis on global navigation satellite systems, the book discusses the US Standard Atmosphere, a general reference model for characteristics of the unionized atmosphere. It also considers: Thorough introductions to the Global Positioning System and the principles of GNSS positioning Comprehensive explorations of tropospheric propagation and predictive models of the troposphere Practical discussions of the physics of the ionosphere, experimental observation of the ionosphere, and ionospheric propagation In-depth examinations of predictive models of the ionosphere, including group delay models for single-frequency GNSS receivers Ideal for engineers and research scientists with a professional or personal interest in geophysics, RF propagation, and GNSS and GPS applications, Tropospheric and Ionospheric Effects on Global Navigation Satellite Systems will also earn a place in the libraries of undergraduate and graduate students studying RF propagation or GNSS.

Book Ionospheric Techniques and Phenomena

Download or read book Ionospheric Techniques and Phenomena written by A. Giraud and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If our eyes were radio rather than optical wide-band detectors it is well known that for us the brightest object in the sky would still be the Sun; that planets, stars and the Milky Way would still shine feebly (and that we would still occasionally be blinded by man-made sources). What is less well known is that quite a different earthbound overcast would hover about us, with its climatic zones, its seasonal changes, its unpredictable storms and scintillating transparence. To be sure, we can get a sort of glimpse of this peculiar type of weather when we tune our receiver to radio broad casting from some remote spot, or photograph the Earth from space at certain specific wavelengths. Nevertheless no one has ever looked at the ionized shroud of the Earth without the help of sophisticated apparatus, and this is one of the reasons why in this domain the phenomena are not easily abstracted from the use of specific techniques. For generations, the study of the ionosphere has been deeply interwoven with the practice of radio communication and detection. Today however, ionospheric physics is best thought of as a branch of space physics; that part of physics which deals with processes at work in the solar system and methods developed for its exploration.
