Book Working with Denied Child Abuse

Download or read book Working with Denied Child Abuse written by Andrew Turnell and published by McGraw-Hill Education (UK). This book was released on 2006-09-16 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How can professionals build constructive relationships with families where the parents dispute professional allegations of serious child abuse? How can meaningful safety for children be created in these families? How can professionals work together constructively in such cases? Situations where parents refute child abuse allegations made against them are often deemed to be impossible or untreatable by statutory and treatment professionals. These cases can consume enormous amounts of professional time and energy and frequently become bogged down by ongoing professional-family mistrust and dispute. Often, the decision to close such cases comes about not because the children are safe, but rather because the professionalsrun out of ideas, time and energy. Working with ‘Denied’ Child Abuse presents an innovative, safety-focused, partnership-based, model called Resolutions, which provides an alternative approach for responding rigourously and creatively to such cases. It describes each stage of this practical model and demonstrates the approach through many case examples from therapists, statutory social workers and other professionals working in Europe, North America and Australasia. The book is key reading for legal, health and social care professionals working in the area of child protection.

This book was released on 2021-12-01 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: High and persistent levels of nonperforming loans (NPLs) have featured prominently in recent financial crises. This book traces NPL trends during and after crises, examines the economic impact of high NPLs, and compares the effectiveness of NPL resolution strategies across economies in Asia and Europe. The book distills important lessons from the experiences of economies using case studies and empirical investigation of ways to resolve NPLs. These findings can be invaluable in charting a course through the financial and economic fallout of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic to recovery and sustained financial stability in Asia, Europe, and beyond.

Book The Law of the Sea in the Asian Pacific Region

Download or read book The Law of the Sea in the Asian Pacific Region written by James Crawford and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-09-27 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume surveys and discusses the range of current issues arising in the law of the sea from an Asian-Pacific perspective. There have been major developments in the law of the sea in the region: many current controversies (e.g. over archipelagic sealanes passage, drift-net fishing and environmental management) have their origins, or important exemplars, in the region. The contributors include international lawyers, political scientists and government officials with expertise in the region. Particular aspects of the book which are of interest are: (a) its discussion of the perspectives of particular countries in the region (East Asia, Australia, the Pacific Islands); (b) its focus on issues of the marine environment and fisheries, including drift-net fishing; (c) discussion of specific developments which are of general interest (the Torres Strait Treaty and its implementation, maritime-confidence-building measures, dispute resolution); and (d) an overview of issues relating to high seas freedoms, including in particular transit through straits and archipelagoes. There is a concluding essay by the editors summarizing the various trends.

Download or read book Bank Recovery and Resolution written by Sven Schelo and published by Kluwer Law International B.V.. This book was released on 2020-10-14 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bank Recovery and Resolution Second Edition Sven Schelo Since 2008, enormous efforts have been made worldwide to draft rules to prevent a reoccurrence of the devastating financial events of that year. In the process, bank business has been laid open to intense public and government scrutiny, and regulation of banking has grown to spectacular proportions. Prominent among the measures taken is the EU Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive (BRRD), which, together with the Single Resolution Mechanism (SRM) and the Single Resolution Fund, constitutes a crucial new pillar in the European Banking Union. Practitioners searching for orientation in what can readily be perceived as a ‘jungle’ have an urgent need for a clear and systematic description and analysis of these new rules, which are sure to have a massive impact on bank business from this time on, not only in Europe but also wherever European business is to be found. The solidly grounded analysis in this important book sets the new rules under BRRD into their full context as cross-border phenomena. With its crystal-clear explanation of key provisions, procedures, and ‘triggers’, the book organises a highly complex legal system into patterns and action plans that can be applied in virtually any eventuality likely to arise in cases where bank business is of central significance. Among the topics covered are the following: – entities covered by BRRD; – exceptions under BRRD; – objective and scope of BRRD tools – bail-in, bridge bank, sale of business, asset separation; – asset quality reviews; – curing or mitigating the continuing problem of non-performing loans; – new rules as response to lack of private solutions; – banks’ requirement to provide a minimum amount of eligible liabilities; – safety buffers to protect resolution; – need to be ‘resolvable’ in a worst case; – leverage and liquidity ratios; – forced mergers; – market spillover effects of recovery planning; – group recovery planning; – effects of foreign law contracts and assets; – write-down of capital instruments; and – special problems of cross-border restructuring. The presentation is enhanced by a comparative dimension, which includes reference to United States and other national developments and a full-scale analysis of Switzerland’s regulatory response to the crisis. Given that a full seamless global system of bank recovery and resolution has not yet been found, and that major banks are global players headquartered in different jurisdictions and even different continents, this book will greatly assist in the work of practitioners who must deal with cases involving international banking under the prevailing status quo. Its usefulness to officials and academics in international banking and finance law and policy, who are working towards a global solution, is of incalculable value.

Book The Euro Trap

Download or read book The Euro Trap written by Hans-Werner Sinn and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2014-07-31 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a critical assessment of the history of the euro, its crisis, and the rescue measures taken by the European Central Bank and the community of states. The euro induced huge capital flows from the northern to the southern countries of the Eurozone that triggered an inflationary credit bubble in the latter, deprived them of their competitiveness, and made them vulnerable to the financial crisis that spilled over from the US in 2007 and 2008. As private capital shied away from the southern countries, the ECB helped out by providing credit from the local money-printing presses. The ECB became heavily exposed to investment risks in the process, and subsequently had to be bailed out by intergovernmental rescue operations that provided replacement credit for the ECB credit, which itself had replaced the dwindling private credit. The interventions stretched the legal structures stipulated by the Maastricht Treaty which, in the absence of a European federal state, had granted the ECB a very limited mandate. These interventions created a path dependency that effectively made parliaments vicarious agents of the ECB's Governing Council. This book describes what the author considers to be a dangerous political process that undermines both the market economy and democracy, without solving southern Europe's competitiveness problem. It argues that the Eurozone has to rethink its rules of conduct by limiting the role of the ECB, exiting the regime of soft budget constraints and writing off public and bank debt to help the crisis countries breathe again. At the same time, the Eurosystem should become more flexible by offering its members the option of exiting and re-entering the euro - something between the dollar and the Bretton Woods system - until it eventually turns into a federation with a strong political power centre and a uniform currency like the dollar.

Book The Developing Immigration and Asylum Policies of the European Union

Download or read book The Developing Immigration and Asylum Policies of the European Union written by Elspeth Guild and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-08-07 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just as free movement and equal treatment were of crucial importance for the development of the European Community, so common policies on immigration and asylum are indispensable for the deepening of the European Union. This book summarizes, against the backdrop of the developing overall goals of the European Community and the European Union, the outcome of European policy-making in these fields. Furthermore, the book contains the important texts concluded by the Member States in the field of immigration and asylum, both intergovernmentally and within the Third Pillar of the Maastricht Treaty. The commentary analyses the contents of each document in turn by reference to the existing international human rights obligations of the Member States.
