Book The Effects of Steady Three dimensional Perturbations in Boundary Layers

Download or read book The Effects of Steady Three dimensional Perturbations in Boundary Layers written by Raymond Sedney and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary purpose of this report is to survey the available information mainly experimental, on the subject. Most attention is given to the complex flow field resulting when a 3-D protuberance is introduced into a laminar boundary layer; less can be said about the turbulent case or 2-D protuberances because enough detailed, careful experiments have not been made. There are some features of the induced flow fields common to all speed ranges; applications range from flow in the atmospheric boundary layer to hypersonic vehicle problems. Some attempts to analyze the downstream flow are also summarized.

Book Steady Three dimensional Perturbations in Boundary Layers

Download or read book Steady Three dimensional Perturbations in Boundary Layers written by Raymond Sedney and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study of three-dimensional boundary layers is synonymous with the study of cross flow or streamwise vorticity in the boundary layer. The research is concerned with the initial value problem for the 3-D boundary layer equations. Results are reported on exact solutions for the decay of streamwise vorticity, on a combined oil-flow--optical method of visualizing the surface flow field in the presence of 3D protuberances, and nonuniform behavior of the small crossflow approximation.

Book On the Three dimensional Instability of Laminar Boundary Layers on Concave Walls

Download or read book On the Three dimensional Instability of Laminar Boundary Layers on Concave Walls written by Henry Görtler and published by . This book was released on 1954 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study is made of the stability of laminar boundary-layer profiles on slightly curved walls relative to small disturbances that result from vortices whose axes are parallel to the principal direction of flow. The result is an eigenvalue problem by which, for a given undisturbed flow at a prescribed wall, the amplification or decay is computed for each Reynolds number and each vortex thickness. For neutral disturbances (zero amplification) a critical Reynolds number is determined for each vortex distribution. The numerical calculation produces amplified disturbances on concave walls only.

Book The Singular Nature of Three dimensional Perturbations of Boundary Layers and the Small Cross Flow Theory

Download or read book The Singular Nature of Three dimensional Perturbations of Boundary Layers and the Small Cross Flow Theory written by Raymond Sedney and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three-dimensional perturbations on two-dimensional boundary layer flows are considered. First initially induced perturbations are studied and a general solution obtained. Second a specific externally induced perturbation is discussed. In both the streamwise velocity perturbation becomes infinite but the cross flow decays as downstream infinity is approached. This implies that the small cross flow approximation is a singular perturbation. The basis for this lies in the fact that the nature of the equations is changed by the approximation, viz., the zone of dependence property is lost.

Book Studies on Three Dimensional Boundary Layers on Bodies of Revolution II Three Dimensional Laminar Boundary Layers and the OK of Accessibility

Download or read book Studies on Three Dimensional Boundary Layers on Bodies of Revolution II Three Dimensional Laminar Boundary Layers and the OK of Accessibility written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation is carried out into the structure of the laminar boundary layer originating from the forward stagnation point of a prolate spheroid at incidence in a uniform stream, assuming that the external velocity distribution is given by attached potential theory. The principal new results of the study are: (1) A new transformation of the body coordinates is devised which facilitates the computation of the solution near the nose, (2) Two variations of the standard box method of solving the equations are devised to enable solutions to be computed in regions of cross-flow reversal, (3) Whereas in two dimensional flows the effect of the boundary layer approaching separation on the external flow may be represented by a blowing velocity, in the present study we find that this is only true near the windward line of symmetry, (4) The boundary layer over the whole of the spheroid cannot be computed in an integration from the forward stagnation point. (5) For alpha> or = 15 deg the accessible region on the leeward side of the ok is largely determined by the external streamline through the ok.

Book Interaction of a Three Dimensional Roughness Element with a Laminar Boundary Layer

Download or read book Interaction of a Three Dimensional Roughness Element with a Laminar Boundary Layer written by P. S. Klebanoff and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation is described that is directed toward extending the technical database and furthering our understanding of boundary layer transition induced by three-dimensional roughness elements. The investigation was carried out in an unsteady wind tunnel, principally with hemispherical roughness elements, in a well characterized zero-pressure gradient laminar boundary layer on a flat plate. Attention was directed toward the following aspects of the behavior of a three dimensional roughness element: (1) the critical Reynolds number of transition and the effect of aspect ratio thereon, (2) eddy generation is steady and unsteady flows, (3) is the fundamental process stability governed, and (4) the evolutionary change in mean velocity and intensity of the velocity fluctuation associated with the transition to fully developed turbulent flow.
