Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The macroeconomic objectives of the 1999 Staff-Monitored Program (SMP) have been broadly achieved in Sudan. The macroeconomic situation at the end of 1999 was modestly more expansionary than programmed. Budget expenditure was maintained below the program level throughout the year and a surge in oil prices in late 1999 has increased oil revenue above budgeted amounts. Broad money growth at end-December was roughly in line with the 1999 program. Both oil and non-oil revenue were strong in the first two months, and expenditure was below trend, allowing the government to build up deposits at the central bank.

Download or read book South Sudanese Diaspora in Australia and New Zealand written by Daniel Harris and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-02 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1996, approximately 30,000 South Sudanese people have immigrated to Australia and New Zealand via humanitarian pathways. This text offers insight into these associated communities’ resettlement experiences and provides a broader sociological context in which the South Sudanese diaspora can be seen within global migration studies. The text’s strength is its close relationship to the work of culturally and disciplinarily diverse scholars bringing contemporary research on South Sudanese resettlement together in one book. This collection provides: • Contemporary research that critically examines the experiences of South Sudanese settlement and its associated successes, concerns and challenges; • Social, theoretical, historical and policy implications associated with resettlement; • An informed and reflective focus on substantive resettlement issues such as education, health, housing, Australian and customary law, employment, integration and discrimination; • Current demographics of the South Sudanese not available elsewhere. The South Sudanese community is one of Australia’s fastest growing new populations, and yet there are limited understandings of their experiences, concerns, aspirations and the associated implications for being able to meaningfully participate in Australian and New Zealand public life. This edited text provides a focused collection of research by established and emerging researchers who offer insight into the complexities, opportunities and challenges related to the lived experiences of resettlement.
Download or read book North Africa 2030 written by Karim Mezran and published by Ledizioni. This book was released on 2022-01-14 with total page 112 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over ten years after the "Arab Spring", the turmoil that swept across North Africa has taken many forms, bringing about change, although not always in a desirable direction. But the Arab uprisings have also brought about a surprising amount of "more of the same": a decade on, the problems that plagued the region in 2010 have not gone away. This report looks at the future of the region, asking: what will North Africa be in 2030? Which direction could the region as a whole, and specific countries, take, and which challenges will they have to face? And what are the implications for Europe and the US?
Download or read book The Engaged University written by David Watson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-07-15 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Engaged University is a comprehensive empirical account of the global civic engagement movement in higher education. In universities around the world, something extraordinary is underway. Mobilizing their human and intellectual resources, institutions of higher education are directly tackling community problems – combating poverty, improving public health, and restoring environmental quality. This book documents and analyzes this exciting trend through studies of civic engagement and social responsibility at twenty institutions worldwide. This timely volume offers three special contributions to the literature on higher education policy and practice: a historical overview of the founding purposes of universities, which almost invariably included a context-specific element of social purpose, together with a survey of how these "founding" intentions have fared in different systems of higher education; a contemporary account of the policy and practice of universities – all over the world – seeking to re-engage with this social purpose; and an overview of generic issues which emerge for the "engaged university."
