Book A Review of the Analytical Methods Applied to the Separated Turbulent Boundary layer Problem

Download or read book A Review of the Analytical Methods Applied to the Separated Turbulent Boundary layer Problem written by and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation of the various parameters that affect separation was undertaken to determine if scale effects exist. For example, in incompressible flow a full, thick, turbulent boundary layer will separate more readily in an adverse pressure gradient than a thin boundary layer. The emphasis throughout is on the two-dimensional, forward facing step and compression corners and the shock wave boundary-layer interaction. (Author).

Book A Critical Review of Analytical Methods for Estimating Control Forces Produced by Secondary Injection

Download or read book A Critical Review of Analytical Methods for Estimating Control Forces Produced by Secondary Injection written by Michael J Werle and published by . This book was released on 1968 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem discussed is that of theoretically predicting the normal force induced in the boundary layer separation region immediately ahead of a secondary injection port. Attention was limited to the two-dimensional problem of sonic or supersonic normal injection into supersonic or hypersonic mainstreams. A critical review of available experimental studies was conducted in order to isolate those data best representing a two-dimensional state. The resulting compilation of experimental results was thereafter employed as a basis of comparison for available theoretical and empirical flow models. As a result it was found that analytical means are only capable of rough quantitative estimates of control jet effectiveness and that a more detailed flow model is needed to further explain observed phenomenon. The basic features of such a model are formulated and its conceptual validity demonstrated through comparison with experimental results. Problem areas requiring further research are also discussed in detail. (Author).

Book Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers

Download or read book Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers written by Tuncer Cebeci and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analysis of Turbulent Boundary Layers focuses on turbulent flows meeting the requirements for the boundary-layer or thin-shear-layer approximations. Its approach is devising relatively fundamental, and often subtle, empirical engineering correlations, which are then introduced into various forms of describing equations for final solution. After introducing the topic on turbulence, the book examines the conservation equations for compressible turbulent flows, boundary-layer equations, and general behavior of turbulent boundary layers. The latter chapters describe the CS method for calculating two-dimensional and axisymmetric laminar and turbulent boundary layers. This book will be useful to readers who have advanced knowledge in fluid mechanics, especially to engineers who study the important problems of design.

Book Boundary Layer Analysis

Download or read book Boundary Layer Analysis written by Joseph A. Schetz and published by AIAA Education. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Relevant to aerospace, mechanical, and civil engineers Boundary Layer Analysis, Second Edition spans the entire range of viscous fluid flows of engineering interest - from low-speed to hypersonic flows - introducing and analyzing laminar, transitional, and turbulent flows; the physics of turbulent shear flows; and turbulence models. It offers concurrent treatment of momentum, heat, and mass transfer, covering modern computational methods as well as analytical methods that are used widely in preliminary design, especially for design optimization studies. Boundary Layer Analysis, Second Edition features worked examples and homework problems employing user-friendly JAVA applets for boundary layer calculations including numerical methods. New to the second edition is a chapter introducing Navier-Stokes computational fluid dynamics.

Book Theoretical and Applied Mechanics

Download or read book Theoretical and Applied Mechanics written by Frithiof I. Niordson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-15 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theoretical and Applied Mechanics covers the proceedings of the 16th International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, held at the Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby, Denmark on August 19-25, 1984. The contributors consider the significant advances in the thriving field of mechanics. This book is composed of 21 chapters, and begins with an overview of space research contributions in understanding fluid media mechanics. This topic is followed by discussions on some aspects and fundamentals of mechanics, such as chaos, computer application, resonant phenomena, adiabaticity, and nonlinear acoustics. The following chapters explore the various applications of theoretical and applied mechanics, including in marine structures, oil recovery, and ice and snow mechanics. This book also deals with nonlinear wave motion, hydrodynamic systems, ocean wave spectra, and Helmholtz concept. The remaining chapters look into the issues of steady water bifurcation, concept of anisotropic soils, and flow visualization. This book is of great value to physicists and research workers who wish to expand their knowledge in mechanics.

Book An Experimental Investigation of Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interaction Dynamics

Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of Shock Wave Boundary Layer Interaction Dynamics written by Gerald W. Braun and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wind tunnel tests were performed which simulated the flow pulsations which are sometimes produced in engine inlets by shock-boundary layer interaction. Shock Mach numbers from 1.2 to 1.4 were used and the boundary layer was influenced by air bleeding in or sucking off. The flow was observed by shodowgraph and static and total pressures were measured by means of low frequency and high frequency response instruments. Static wall pressures, boundary layer pressure profiles, and total pressure distributions across several tunnel cross sections were plotted. The data were analyzed with respect to their rms value and power spectral density. A literature survey and an analytical investigation of the pulsations in a diffuser with nonviscous flow are included. (Author).

Book Studies of an Integral Method for Calculating Time Dependent Turbulent Boundary Layers

Download or read book Studies of an Integral Method for Calculating Time Dependent Turbulent Boundary Layers written by Gary D. Kuhn and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An integral boundary-layer method is examined for its applicability to unsteady turbulent boundary layers. The method employs an analytical velocity profile formulation modeled after the law of the wall and the law of the wake and recently applied successfully to calculation of steady separated turbulent boundary layers. Analytical solutions developed from a small perturbation analysis indicate the method is valid for unsteady flow over a certain range of frequencies. Good comparisons were obtained between the linearized theory and results produced by a finite-difference solution of the complete nonlinear unsteady boundary-layer equations. Examination of the nature of the integral equations in the vicinity of a point of zero wall shear stress indicates that that point does not necessarily correspond to a point of separation in unsteady flow. That result is also consistent with the results of other researchers. (Author).
