Book A Review of Models in Support of Oil and Gas Exploration Off the North Coast of British Columbia

Download or read book A Review of Models in Support of Oil and Gas Exploration Off the North Coast of British Columbia written by M. G. G. Foreman and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A state-of-the-art review of numerical models that would be needed to address scientific and environmental issues related to removing the moratorium on offshore oil and gas exploration for the waters off northern British Columbia is presented. Specific recommendations are made for circulation, ecosystem, oil spill, and drilling mud models. Complementary needs for more observations to validate these models and for the development of both a high resolution surface wave model and a high resolution atmospheric model, are also foreseen. It is anticipated that these recommendations will be useful when future science programs related to oil and gas exploration are developed.

Book A Review of Models in Support of Oil and Gas Exploration of the North Coast of British Columbia

Download or read book A Review of Models in Support of Oil and Gas Exploration of the North Coast of British Columbia written by and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents a state of the art review of numerical models that would be needed to address scientific & environmental issues related to removing the moratorium on offshore oil & gas exploration for the waters off northern British Columbia. The review begins with background on the physical processes (wind, waves, currents, sea level changes) in the study area and modelling needs & issues. It then describes candidate models in the following categories: ocean circulation, oil spills, and biological or ecosystem models. The final section discusses other issues such as computing requirements and makes some recommendations concerning preferred models.

Book British Columbia Offshore Hydrocarbon Development

Download or read book British Columbia Offshore Hydrocarbon Development written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the report of a British Columbia committee appointed to advise on the following: the scientific & technological considerations relevant to offshore oil & gas exploration, development, & production; and further research that should be undertaken to advance the state of knowledge regarding these considerations. It first reviews the geological & oceanographic environment, the characteristics of British Columbia coastal conditions compared to other districts such as Alaska, government responsibilities related to offshore development, coastal marine ecosystems & protected areas, the marine ecology of the Queen Charlotte Basin, potential stresses on marine ecology from the oil & gas industry, and offshore engineering & technology. It then presents the committee's recommendations on such matters as research, regulatory matters, and offshore development strategies. The appendices contain background information on such subjects as hydrocarbon potential, geologic hazards, oceanography, sea birds, British Columbia offshore drilling history, the existing moratorium on offshore oil & gas activity, and offshore oil & gas approvals.

Book Thermal Modeling of Petroleum Generation

Download or read book Thermal Modeling of Petroleum Generation written by Colin Barker and published by Elsevier Science & Technology. This book was released on 1996 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Petroleum exploration has always been limited by the lack of adequate subsurface control. Exploration problems are usually problems of extrapolation i.e. to greater depth, to laterally equivalent rocks, or back through time.Models are widely used as a way of describing complex geological systems so that they can be treated quantitatively and used as the basis for extrapolations and predictions. Models consider, typically, a simplified geological system that can be described mathematically. It is very important to know what simplifying assumptions have been made, when these assumptions are valid, and under what conditions their use may not be appropriate. This requires an understanding of the concepts involved in building the model and how the model operates.Models are best used as a tool for probing the system and evaluating the sensitivity of the conclusions to possible uncertainties in the values of the input parameters. In a sense, models permit experimental petroleum geochemistry and allow the user to answer the What if? questions e.g. What if the geothermal gradient had been higher in the past? What if the organic matter type had been different? This book provides students, exploration geologists, and others who would like to use the available models, with a general idea of how the models work, what they can do, and what their limitations are.It also provides the information necessary to obtain the input data required by the commercial models.
