Book Statistical Design and Analysis for Intercropping Experiments

Download or read book Statistical Design and Analysis for Intercropping Experiments written by Walter T. Federer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-01-08 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intercropping is an area of research for which there is a desperate need, both in developing countries where people are rapidly depleting scarce resources and still starving, and in developed countries, where more ecologically and economically sound ways of feeding ourselves must be developed. The only published guidelines for conducting such research and analyzing the data have been scattered about in various journal articles, many of which are hard to find. This book condenses these methods and will be immensely valuable to agricultural researchers and to the statisticians who help them design their experiments and interpret their results.

Book On the Analysis of Intercropping Experiments

Download or read book On the Analysis of Intercropping Experiments written by D. Pantelidis and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intercropping, the growing of two or more crops simultaneously on the same area of ground, has been proved a very efficient method of cropping, especially in the tropical areas of the third world. But the methods of comparing intercropping and sole cropping have not yet been fully developed. The aim of this paper is to look at some of these methods used for comparisons, and to assess their advantages and disadvantages. Some of the methods examined are established ones (LER), while some others have been developed only very recently (bivariate approach). The first chapter intends to familiarise the reader with the concept of intercropping. There is a discussion about intercropping, some examples of intercropping experiments, and considerations on the design and the analysis of such experiments. The second chapter concentrates on the Land Equivalent Ratio (LER) method. The method is described in all its variations and two experiments are analysed. There is also a discussion about the relative advantages and disadvantages of the LER method variations. The third chapter is about a recently developed method to analyse intercropping experiments, the bivariate method. The experiments of the previous chapter are now analysed usind the bivariate method. Finally, chapter four attempts to compare the two methods examined and to suggest directions for further research into this area.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the recent past, significant advances in the production technologies have taken place necessitating suitable modifications in the existing designs and methodology for data analysis. Adoption of modern techniques in dry land agriculture especially in situations under intercropping has led to suit the needs of designs and analysis of experiments. A few excellent status review of this area of research is available. However, information on plot technique for field experimentation on intercrop system as well as critical stages of competition of crops involved in intercropping systems are lacking. Such information has its own significance in planning of experiments on intercropping systems. Critical stage of competition has direct relevance with productivity of the component crops of the systems. Keeping this in view, the study was undertaken.

Book Statistical Design and Analysis for Intercropping Experiments

Download or read book Statistical Design and Analysis for Intercropping Experiments written by Walter T. Federer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intercropping is a method of sustaining or improving soil structure by growing two or more crops on the same field. It is a technique of wide application and of growing importance for both commercial and subsistence farmers. This textbook provides a comprehensive survey of the design and analysis of intercropping experiments. Its main themes are that techniques such as relative indices make it possible to cover a wide variety of conditions, and that statistical models for density-yield relations enable recommendations to be made to growers of crops. As a result, graduate students and researchers in statistics, biometry, and agriculture whose study involves intercropping will find this an invaluable text and reference.

Book A Guide to Research Methodology

Download or read book A Guide to Research Methodology written by Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-09-04 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Methodology is meant to provide a broad guideline to facilitate and steer the whole of a research activity in any discipline. With the ambit and amount of research increasing by the day, the need for Research Methodology is being widely appreciated. Against this backdrop, we notice the dearth of well-written books on the subject. A Guide to Research Methodology attempts a balance between the generic approach to research in any domain and the wide array of research methods which are to be used in carrying out different tasks in any research. Discussions on these research methods appropriate in various disciplines have focused on the research tasks, keeping in mind the fact that a single such task like a comparison among alternatives may involve several methods from seemingly distinct areas. Unique features of this volume, as will be evident to a discerning reader, include: A detailed discussion on problem areas for research in several domains An illustrative and ampliated list of research problems drawn from different disciplines which can be pursued by interested research workers A comprehensive delineation of Research Design supported by illustrations An elaborate engagement with models with a note on model uncertainty Focus on recent and emerging models, methods and techniques A novel treatment of data analysis where the nature of data and the objective(s) of analysis justify drawing upon a variety of techniques for analysis This book will serve the purpose of a pre-PhD or a Master-level course-work for students of any discipline with a basic knowledge of quantitative analysis. In fact, anyone aspiring to take up meaningful research work will find the content useful and interesting.

Book Some Concepts and Experimental Methods in Intercropping Research

Download or read book Some Concepts and Experimental Methods in Intercropping Research written by M. R. Rao and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental methods and analytic procedures in intercropping research are not as much developed as in sole crop research, although some of the techniques of sole cropping can be extended to intercropping. The research strategy for yield improvement in intercropping should be same as for sole crops, requiring studies in crop physiology as well as on various agronomic factors. The intercrops can be evaluated by scale neutral indices such as land equivalent ratio, area-time equivalent ratio or combining yields by monetary value, protein, calories etc. Evaluation of yield stability is of utmost importance for subsistence farmers, and in this contex multilocation tests are emphasised. Some aspects related to selection of treatments, particularly of sole crops, factorial arrangemens for estimating independent and interaction effects, plot size, minimum data sets to be recorded and standardisation and analysis of results are discussed briefly.
