Book International Comparisons of China s Technical and Vocational Education and Training System

Download or read book International Comparisons of China s Technical and Vocational Education and Training System written by Zhenyi Guo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-07-03 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China is experiencing an unprecedented phenomenon: breakneck industrialization on a scale and at a pace not seen before. It is trying to achieve in just a few decades what Western nations took more than a century to do. The arrival in the country’s cities of tens of millions of rural dwellers, at most semi-skilled, has put huge strain on the country’s system of vocational education, known as TVET. How have the Chinese authorities and their education administrators responded? Is China’s TVET system adapting to the rapidly evolving needs of its industry? Using the province of Yunnan as a subject, this detailed case study is a closely argued and sanguine analysis of the operation of TVET in China. The authors deployed a set of internationally comparable criteria to offer a searching assessment of current performance, at the same time documenting areas of strength and weakness. The question the authors’ methodology answers is how well China’s TVET system is performing compared to technical and vocational education structures in other countries. In fact, they discover that in Yunnan, a province representative of the challenges faced nationwide, much has indeed been done, from a wholesale overhaul of programs to make them relevant to industry requirements, to major investment in infrastructure. Teacher training has been reformed, and take-up of professional master’s and doctoral courses has been encouraged. Joint initiatives with bodies such as UNESCO have improved training and vocational education at high school level. While there is a strong international history of such comparative evaluations, which are essential for policy makers to benchmark their administration, few studies have included China despite the enormous amount of value that can be learned from that country’s experience. This work will provide vital material for researchers, governments and development agencies alike.

Book Supporting Training Strategies for Brigade Combat Teams Using Future Combat Systems FCS Technologies

Download or read book Supporting Training Strategies for Brigade Combat Teams Using Future Combat Systems FCS Technologies written by Michael G. Shanley and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2007 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study seeks to help the Army identify options to improve its future (i.e., circa 2016) training strategies for Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) equipped with Future Combat System (FCS) technologies. Key findings are that live training will need to remain at the core of training programs for FCS units, and that adaptation to changing operational requirements will be a primary training challenge. Overall, the findings indicate that planned training enhancements can provide important improvements across a wide spectrum; however, the overall training capability achieved will likely be less than that needed to meet future training requirements. Unit time, the potential for technological advancement, and training budgets were found to be key constraints. While the study stresses greater emphasis on training manpower support in battle command training as the Army's best chance for significant near-term improvement, it concludes that longer-term improvement will depend on how closely the Army monitors and manages its enhancement programs. The process of shaping and balancing future training enhancements, for example, would benefit from better information and improved evaluative capabilities. These changes would be further enhanced by developing better metrics for the quality, quantity, and adaptability of training, by continuing to improve spiral development processes to evolve training methods and means, and by improving the visibility of financial information across training categories.

Book Simulation Fidelity in Training System Design

Download or read book Simulation Fidelity in Training System Design written by Robert T. Hays and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Business, academia, industry, and the military require well trained personnel to function in highly complex working environments. To reduce high training costs and to improve the effectiveness of training, training system developers often use sophisticated training media such as, simulators, videodisks, and computer-based instruction. The designers of these training media are continually striving to provide maximum training effectiveness at minimum cost. Although literature is available on the implementation and use of specific training media, there is little guidance on a major feature that is central to these media. All of these media present the learner with an interactive simulation of the real world. Effective training system design can be facilitated if the requirements of the real-world task are properly included in training. A conceptual bridge is necessary to link these actual task requirements to the characteristics of the training system. This book provides such a conceptual bridge. The need for improved training is critical in the area of equipment operation, maintenance, and decision making tasks. For example, the importance of improved operator training in the nuclear power industry has become paramount since the Three Mile Island accident and the more serious accident at the Chernobyl reactor in the U. S. S. R. Technology, such as the availability and power of computers, offers a wider variety of training options, but requires additional training system design decisions.

Book Battle Staff Training System II

Download or read book Battle Staff Training System II written by Richard L. Wampler and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report documents the methodology and lessons learned in the development of the Innovative Tools and Techniques for Brigade and Below Staff Training II - Battle Staff Training System II (ITTBBST-BSTS II). This effort supported the Army's distance learning initiative by developing three computer-based training (CBT) courses of instruction on CD-ROM. An existing Brigade Common Core training support package (TSP) was converted from a text and computer-based TSP to a 100% CBT course with limited adjunctive text materials. In addition, TSPs were developed for the Training Developer and CBT Author to train them to update and maintain an existing library of courses. These TSPs were also 100% CBT. The ITTBBST-BSTS II Brigade Common Core course can replace the similar course in the existing BSTS library of courses for use by the Total Force. The Training Developer and CBT Author courses are designed for use at an institution with responsibility for updating and maintaining BSTS courseware. The Brigade Common Core and Training Developer courses are designed for use in a local area network, wide area network, or stand-alone computer mode. The CBT Author course is designed for stand-alone use only."--Stinet.
