Book A Retrospective Study of Preseason Testing Results Between Starters and Non starters on an NCAA Division II Football Program

Download or read book A Retrospective Study of Preseason Testing Results Between Starters and Non starters on an NCAA Division II Football Program written by Damian Shaun Droessler and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In recent years the National Collegiate Athlete Association has lessened the amount of time they allow their participating football members to practice in the preseason. Consequently, coaches look for ways to best utilize the time they do have. This study was conducted to determine if there was a significant difference in preseason testing results between the starters and non-starters. Seventy-two members of the Bemidji State University (BSU) football team, 24 in three separate positions, were studied over a three years span, encompassing 33 games to determine of [sic] the starters performed significantly higher than the non-starters in the five fitness tests performed. No such study had been performed at BSU longer than three games prior to this research. Athletes were tested on the 40 yard dash, bench press, vertical jump, pro agility, and the Beaver Run. Results were entered into an SPSS program and compared using an independent samples t-test. There were significant results between the starters and non-starters of the linebacker and the wide receiver group. No such results were found in any of the five preseason fitness tests amongst the defensive back groups. The results of this study indicate there are differences between starters and non-starters in certain position groups and certain tests within those groups. Not all tests were significant and are able to be used to help determine potential starters over non-starters"--Abstract.

Book Evaluating the Importance of Strength Power and Performance Tests in an NCAA Division I Football Program

Download or read book Evaluating the Importance of Strength Power and Performance Tests in an NCAA Division I Football Program written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strength and conditioning professionals spend a great deal of time and effort trying to improve athletic performance. Even as coaches evaluate each athlete by using the results of a vast battery of tests, there has been considerable speculation and discussion about the physical attributes of Division I football players and their playing status. The purpose of this study was to determine what influence strength, power, and performance tests scores have on an individual's playing status. The Skill group results indicate that power is the most important factor differentiating between starters and non-starters. Simultaneously, the Combo group results indicate that speed is the most important factor differentiating between starters and non-starters. Also, the L.O.S. group results indicate that bodyweight is the most important factor differentiating between starters and non-starters.

Book Predicting Playing Time for Offensive Football Players from Pre season Physical Tests

Download or read book Predicting Playing Time for Offensive Football Players from Pre season Physical Tests written by Charles W. Syverson and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coaches use physical tests to assess specific performance attributes. However, there is little data on whether specific physical tests predict game participation. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether or not pro-agility (PRO), forty-yard sprint (40), bench press (BP), vertical jump (VJ), and Beaver run (BR) can predict the numbers of plays played by offensive players and to determine whether one test can predict the success of another. The subjects were male offensive football players at Bemidji State University, a NCAA Division II Program. The subjects were divided into the position groups which consisted of offensive linemen (OL), offensive backs (OB), and receivers (REC). There was a significant relationship between plays played and 40-yard sprint r(10)= -.795, p=.006, vertical jump r(10)= .693, p=.026 and Beaver run r(10)= -.670, p=.034 for the receiver group. VJ was significantly correlated with PRO, 40, and BR, r(27)= -.873, r(27)= -.879, and r(27)= -.842 respectively; BR was significantly correlated with 40 and PRO, r(27)= .898, r(27)= .821, respectively; and the 40 was significantly correlated with PRO r(27) = .812, p = .000. The results of this study suggest that some tests are strongly related to playing time. However, testing remains an evaluation tool, not the determining factor for player selection.

Book Predicting Starting Status

Download or read book Predicting Starting Status written by Martin J. Spieler and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 74 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author's abstract: The recruiting process in collegiate football calls for coaches to identify prospective student-athletes who would be most successful at their institution. Humara (2005) argues that while coaches are experts in the identification of physical attributes needed for success, they may lack the ability to identify psychological skills. Niednagel (2004) would contend that in addition to psychological and physical factors, environmental factors also contribute to the ability to succeed. Participants were 108 male football players (35 linemen, 47 tight ends/linebackers, 18 skilled players, 8 special teams) from 6 teams in a NCAA Division I Southeastern conference. Using multivariate analysis of variance and discriminant analysis, the current research attempted to determine factors from demographic information, the Ten-Item Personality Inventory, and the Athletic Coping Skills Inventory-28, that most accurately predicts starting status in collegiate football players. Results showed that there was a significant difference between starters and non-starters for age, high school size, and coping with adversity, predicting starting status 79.6% of the time.

Book Differences in Muscular Strength and Power Between Positions and Starters Versus Non starters in Division III Collegiate Football Players

Download or read book Differences in Muscular Strength and Power Between Positions and Starters Versus Non starters in Division III Collegiate Football Players written by Cameron S. Ringstead and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: The purpose of the current study was to investigate the differences in strength and power between playing positions and starters versus non-starters. Division III post-season male American football players (N = 38) participated in a descriptive study that consisted of strength, power, and dynamic performance variable testing. Subjects were grouped depending on playing position (skill, big skill, or line) and into starters and non-starters. Subjects completed a 3-repetition maximum hexagonal barbell deadlift to determine strength capabilities. Power output was assessed using a hexagonal barbell jump at 30, 40, 50, 60, and 70% of estimated 1RM. Dynamic performance variables consisted of depth jumps, to calculated ground contact time, jump height and reactive strength index, and 5, 10, 30m sprint capability. A statistically significant (p
