Book excerpt: The CO2-laser technology may be considered the most advanced in the laser field. Research has been stimulated strongly because of its high potential for many scientific and industrial applications. This book is primarily devoted to the main, more established developments of the CO2-laser. Advances in continuous systems, pulsed systems, mode-locked pulses, and the amplification of short pulses are dealt with in detail. This is done by giving an extensive treatment of relevant molecular physics, gas kinetics, excitation and relaxation processes, and laser physics pertinent to CO2. It also provides a thorough theoretical background of specific technologies used in various devices. Many numerical values of physical constants and accurate spectroscopic data of CO2 isotopes are included.

Book A Multiple Pulse CO2 TEA Laser for Use in Thermal Blooming Studies

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The design, performance and operating characteristics of a multiple pulse CO2 TEA laser constructed at AWRE for use in thermal blooming studies is described. Using unstable resonator optics, at the maximum pulse repetition frequency of approx. 10.4 Hz, this laser yielded a good quality output beam of mean power 28 + or - 2 W. (Author).

Book Interaction of Pulsed CO2 laser Radiation with Non metals

Download or read book Interaction of Pulsed CO2 laser Radiation with Non metals written by David R. Brighton and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Samples of crown glass, fused silica, Perspex and Irtran 1 were irradiated with 0.2-microsec duration pulses from a CO2 laser, at energy densities of between 10 and 800 kJ/sq m. The damage induced was thermal in origin and was controlled more by the absorption depth in the material than by thermal diffusion. The major damage mechanisms were cracking and flaking in the case of crown glass, and vaporisation in the cases of fused silica and Perspex. Irtran 1 was the most difficult to damage because of its comparatively large absorption depth. Impulse production was studied, and was explained by simple models involving vaporisation and the excitation of laser-supported waves. (Author).

Book Construction of a Carbon Dioxide TEA Transversely Excited Atmospheric Laser

Download or read book Construction of a Carbon Dioxide TEA Transversely Excited Atmospheric Laser written by Douglas Harmon Barr and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The recent development of CO2 Transverse Excitation at Atmospheric Pressure (TEA) lasers has generated expanding interest and success due to their high pulsed power capabilities and simplicity of construction. The authors therefore decided to construct a CO2 TEA laser because of the need for a high powered, pulsed, coherent radiation source with wave length near 10 microns to conduct absorption studies of laser-induced plasmas. It was decided that the constructed laser should have an output energy per pulse between 10 to 50 joules with a pulse time between 0.1 to 1.0 microseconds. This paper deals with the construction of that laser, and includes a discussion of the background and physics of operation of the CO2 TEA laser. (Author).

Book Selection of a Single Pulse from a Mode Locked TEA CO2 Laser

Download or read book Selection of a Single Pulse from a Mode Locked TEA CO2 Laser written by F. Rheault and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The isolation of a single pulse from a transversely excited atmospheric (TEA) CO2 laser, actively mode-locked by an acoustic loss modulator, is described. The single pulse selection has been achieved with the aid of a GaAs electrooptic shutter located either inside or outside the laser resonator. Pulses of MW peak power and 2 ns duration have been recorded with instrument-limited precision. The availability of such pulses uncovers new possibilities for the investigation of laser matter interactions at 10.6 micrometers. (Author).

Book A Sealed High Repetition Rate Tea CO2 Laser

Download or read book A Sealed High Repetition Rate Tea CO2 Laser written by Paul W. Pace and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compact atmospheric pressure CO2 laser utilizing a double-discharge technique has been constructed and operated at moderate repetition rates. With the addition of small amounts of hydrogen and carbon monoxide to the He-CO2-N2 gas mixture, sealed operational lifetimes exceeding 2 x ten to the 6th power pulses have been obtained. Operating in this mode, the output energy is about 250 mJ/pulse at repetition frequencies of 40-50 pulses/s.
