Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last years the heat shock response has been stu- died as a model system to analyze control mechanisms regula- ting the synthesis of heat shock proteins providing impor- tant general insight into the regulation of gene expression. But the major revelation, which has sparked interest from all quarters of biology, is the discovery that heat shock proteins play major roles in an extraordinary variety of normal cellular processes. They are the focus of investiga- tions in many areas of cell biology, including protein traf- ficking, signal transduction, DNS replication, transcrip- tion, protein synthesis, and in the assembly of di- verse protein structures. These aspects are thoroughly trea- ted in the book, as are the implications in immunology, in- fec- tious diseases, chronic degeneration, hyperthermia, and can- cer research.

Download or read book Heat Shock and Development written by Lawrence E. Hightower and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-05 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The possible roles of heat shock proteins in normal develop- ment in animals, plants and model systems and the effects microorganisms and the effects of elevated temperature on developmental programs are comprehensively treated. All re- levant aspects of heat shock genes in normal and abnormal development are covered all of the major biological systems currently used to study the developmental biology of heat s- hock genes included. Heat is a medically significant terato- gen in humans and (other) animals. The heat shock response itself is developmentally regulated and is likely to be pro- tective in the developingembryo. In addition to roles in stress responses, heat shock genes are differentially ex- pressed during normal development in germ tissues and fur- ther in the specialized cell types of somatic tissues such as the mammalian brain. Heat shock genes are regulated du- ring the cell cycle and heat shock promoters are being used in ectopic expression systems to study the functions of particular genes during development.

Book The Neuropathology of Huntington s Disease Classical Findings Recent Developments and Correlation to Functional Neuroanatomy

Download or read book The Neuropathology of Huntington s Disease Classical Findings Recent Developments and Correlation to Functional Neuroanatomy written by Udo Rüb and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-29 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph describes the progress in neuropathological HD research made during the last century, the neuropathological hallmarks of HD and their pathogenic relevance. Starting with the initial descriptions of the progressive degeneration of the striatum as one of the key events in HD, the worldwide practiced Vonsattel HD grading system of striatal neurodegeneration will be outlined. Correlating neuropathological data with results on the functional neuroanatomy of the human brain, subsequent chapters will highlight recent HD findings: the neuronal loss in the cerebral neo-and allocortex, the neurodegeneration of select thalamic nuclei, the affection of the cerebellar cortex and nuclei, the involvement of select brainstem nuclei, as well as the pathophysiological relevance of these pathologies for the clinical picture of HD. Finally, the potential pathophysiological role of neuronal huntingtin aggregations and the most important and enduring challenges of neuropathological HD research are discussed.

Book Heat Shock Response

  • Author : Lutz Nover
  • Publisher : CRC Press
  • Release : 2022-09-09
  • ISBN : 1000714438
  • Pages : 532 pages

Download or read book Heat Shock Response written by Lutz Nover and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-09 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on heat shock response-an active yet transient reprogramming of cellular activities to the needs of a stress protection mechanism designed to minimize heat damage and to optimize restoration of normal cellular activities after the stress period. This work places major emphasis on the structure and possible cellular functions of heat shock proteins as well as the analysis of heat shock protein-coding genes by transfection into homologous and heterologous expression systems. It also discusses heat shock effects on all levels of gene expression, on cell ultrastructure, and metabolic activities. This unique text is a must for all those who are involved with genetics, nucleic acids research, and cancer research.

Book Heat Shock Proteins in the Nervous System

Download or read book Heat Shock Proteins in the Nervous System written by R. J. Mayer and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1994-07-13 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neuroscience Perspectives provides multidisciplinary reviews of topics in one of the most diverse and rapidly advancing fields in the life sciences. Cells respond to temperature elevation and other traumas by inducing a set of genes (cell stream genes) encoding cell stress (heat shock) proteins which may play important roles in cellular repair and/or protective mechanisms. This book surveys the current state of knowledge concerning the expression of heat shock genes and proteins in the nervous system following such traumatic events as hyperthermia, ischemia, and tissue wounding. The possible neuroprotective effects of the heat shock response are discussed. In addition to reviewing progress in animal model systems, this book discusses heat shock proteins such as ubiquitin in relation to human neurodegenerative diseases. Each chapter presents an overview of a specific subject area and includes current results from each authors laboratory and a viewpoint on future research directions. The book is organized in two parts: the first part deals with cell stress genes and their protein products; the second part deals with ubiquitin and the nervous system. The chapters are grouped so that each of the two sections begins with a description of the basic molecular cell biology of heat shock proteins or ubiquitin. Whether you are a new recruit to neuroscience or an established expert, look to this series for one-stop sources for the historical, physiological, pharmacological, biochemical, molecular biology and therapeutic aspects of your chosen research areas.
