Since it is generally agreed that he regularly used the St. Jerome's revision of the Latin Gospels, known as the Vulgate Gospels (published A.D. 383), during the remaining 30 years of his life, the present inquiry is limited to the extant works of Augustine written during the earlier period of his authorship, 385-400, comprising of 1941 Gospel quotations.
