As it examines the oil industry in Africa and probes the causes of global warming, this record warns of its insidious impacts and explores false solutions. Book A Rapid Biological Assessment of the Atewa Range Forest Reserve Eastern Ghana

Download or read book A Rapid Biological Assessment of the Atewa Range Forest Reserve Eastern Ghana written by Jennifer McCullough and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Atewa Range Forest Reserve represents one of the largest remaining forest blocks in Ghana and one of the most rewarding areas for scientific study as the nation’s last intact block of Upland Evergreen Forest. The survey results presented in this volume confirm that Atewa is a site of extreme significance for global biodiversity conservation, one which should be protected in its entirety as it harbors a number of rare and threatened species within a unique habitat type. The results of this assessment strongly suggest that Atewa represents a very rare example of a relatively intact West African forest, notably showing that Atewa is an important site for amphibians. Researchers observed a high proportion of threatened amphibian species, some of which maintain the majority of their existing populations in Atewa.

This book was released on 1997-01 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1993 and 1994, two Rapid Assessment Program teams conducted biological surveys in the Cordillera del Cóndor between Ecuador and Peru, one of the largest intact regions of Andean lower montane forest. Book Crimes of the Powerful

Download or read book Crimes of the Powerful written by Dawn Rothe and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-03-31 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As politicians and the media perpetuate the stereotype of the "common criminal," crimes committed by the powerful remain for the most part invisible, or are reframed as a "bad decision" or a "rare mistake." This is a topic that remains marginalized within the field of criminology and criminal justice, yet crimes of the powerful cause more harm, perpetuate more inequalities, and result in more victimization than street crimes. Crimes of the Powerful: An introduction is the first textbook to bring together and show the symbiotic relationships between the related fields of state crime, white-collar crime, corporate crime, financial crime, organized crime, and environmental crime. Dawn L. Rothe and David Kauzlarich introduce the many types of crimes, methodological issues associated with research, theoretical relevance, and issues surrounding regulations and social controls for crimes of the powerful. Themes covered include: media, culture, and the Hollywoodization of crimes of the powerful; theoretical understanding and the study of the crimes of the powerful; a typology of crimes of the powerful with examples and case studies; victims of the crimes of the powerful; the regulation and resistance of elite crime. An ideal introductory text for both undergraduate and postgraduate students taking modules on the crimes of the powerful, white-collar crime, state crime, and green criminology, this text includes chapter summaries, activities and discussion questions, and lists of additional resources including films, websites, and additional readings.
