Book Some efficient random number generators for micro computers

Download or read book Some efficient random number generators for micro computers written by Arne Thesen and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The relatively slow speed and small word size of the current crop of micro-computers causes the efficient production of pseudo-random numbers on these machines to be considerably more difficult than on larger computers. As a consequence, some micro-computer-based algorithms are excessivly time consuming, while other algorithms trade off speed against 'randomness'. To alleviate this problem we present in this paper several families of pseudo random number generators explicitly designed for use on micro-computer environment, others are new or lesser known algorihtms designed to overcome some of the restrictions intrinsic to the micro-computer's 8 bit environment. For each generator the basic algorithm is discussed and a Pascal implementation is presented. Values of coefficients leading to pseudo random number streams with good statistical properties are recommended and an empirical evaluation of the computational efficiency of the Pascal procedures is offered.

Book Elements of Simulation

Download or read book Elements of Simulation written by Byron J.T. Morgan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-13 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of simulation in statistics dates from the start of the 20th century, coinciding with the beginnings of radio broadcasting and the invention of television. Just as radio and television are now commonplace in our everyday lives, simulation methods are now widely used throughout the many branches of statistics, as can be readily appreciated from reading Chapters 1 and 9. The book has grown out of a fifteen-hour lecture course given to third-year mathematics undergraduates at the University of Kent, and it could be used either as an undergraduate or a postgraduate text. Simulation may either be taught as an operational research tool in its own right, or as a mathematical method which cements together different parts of statistics and which may be used in a variety of lecture courses. In the last three chapters indications are made of the varied uses of simulation throughout statistics. Alternatively, simulation may be used to motivate subjects such as the teaching of distribution theory and the manipulation of random variables, and Chapters 4 and 5 especially will hopefully be useful in this respect.

Book Computational Methods in Physics and Engineering

Download or read book Computational Methods in Physics and Engineering written by Samuel S M Wong and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 1997-03-15 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical methods are playing an ever-increasing role in physics and engineering. This is especially true after the recent explosion of computing power on the desk-top. This book is aimed at helping the user to make intelligent use of this power tool. Each method is introduced through realistic examples and actual computer programs. The explanations provide the background for making a choice between similar approaches and the knowledge to explore the network for the appropriate existing codes. Tedious proofs and derivations, on the other hand, are delegated to references. Examples of uncoventional methods are also given to stimulate readers in exploring new ways of solving problems.
