Radiographic images from 510 Alaska Native people were analyzed to determine significant differences in the timing of permanent tooth calcification and eruption using the Moorrees et al. (1963a, 1963b) and Trodden (1982) methods respectively. The mean and median age and range of variation per stage of development was established for four discernable groups. In order of earliest general development these groups are: Western/Northern Region females, Western/Northern Region males, Interior/Southeastern Region females, and Interior/Southeastern males. Differences between the sexes were greatest in the Western/Northern Region. The most notable trend in both tooth calcification and eruption was that Alaska Native populations tended to reach stages of development earlier in the posterior teeth but later in the anterior teeth when compared to most other US populations"--Leaf iii.
