Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Quaker-Christian Home We are not assuming that the Virtues and values dis cussed in the following pages are absent in other Christian homes. We are merely saying that through the centuries Quakers have/ put a strong emphasis upon these qualities, and that we feel that this emphasis should be continued.' This little booklet does not undertake to cover the whole range of Christian living in the home. There are many excellent books and materials available from our Board on Christian Education, and from other sources. These are highly recommended for further study. The purpose of this little booklet is to emphasize the distinctive features of the Quaker home. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book My Quaker Maid Classic Reprint

Download or read book My Quaker Maid Classic Reprint written by Marah Ellis Ryan and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from My Quaker Maid Gallop! gallop! gallop! rode two men in the spring time of their lives, and the spring of the year as it smiles on Northern Maryland. All the sweet odors of the new-turned soil, and the fragrance of the first orchards, swept past them, and the pink petals of peach trees made rosy spots near and far through the clearings. But neither of the gentlemen riders, nor the slender colored boy with a portmanteau pegging along in their rear, gave aught of heed to the road side beauties. Occasionally one or the other would glance back over shoulder when some eminence was reached, but their speed was only checked where a hamlet was passed; a field where curious farmers rested on their plow handles to stare at the unusual strangers traveling along the back road; for a bit unusual they certainly appeared to the rural eye, despite the red clay of the country on man and beast. Their horses were magnificent animals - to be given notice for their breeding anywhere, and their equipment was in keeping; while the fine gray coats of their riders could not all conceal the costume of men of fashion in the fifties. Book A Quaker Girl of Nantucket Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Quaker Girl of Nantucket Classic Reprint written by Mary Catherine Lee and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-12 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Quaker Girl of Nantucket IN Nantucket town, on one of the streets which is more properly restrained, more certain than others where it wants to go, stands a house more ample than its fellows, and farther back from the cobble-stone pavement, so as to give it a few feet of grass plot in front, when other houses stand flush upon the sidewalk. It is a drab house, well furnished with drab' shutters, inside and out, whereas most of the Nantucket houses have no shutters at all. These differences give it an honorable distino tion. It is a foregone concession that the people who live there are to be very highly regarded. Three generations of Swains had passed quiet lives under the roof of this exceptional dwelling, and the fourth was represented by one little girl, Miriam Swain, some twenty Odd years ago. Book Quaker Lady The Story of Charity Lynch and Her People Classic Reprint

Download or read book Quaker Lady The Story of Charity Lynch and Her People Classic Reprint written by Alta Harvey Heiser and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02-20 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Quaker Lady: The Story of Charity Lynch and Her People My father had a birthright membership in the Spring field Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends. This he automatically forfeited when he married, and joined the Methodist Church. The farm home near the lower meeting house on Todd's Fork, in Clinton County, Ohio, was bro ken up when grandfather died. Grandmother went to live in Dayton. Each summer, she paid us a visit at our home near the campus of the Friends College in Wilmington, Ohio. I have vivid memories of the services of silent worship in the old meeting-house, and of Grandma Harvey taking her place in the facing benches. My reverence for this dear Quakeress has made me interested in all Quakers. I, myself, am now a grandmother, and memories grow sweeter with the years. Some time ago, I began recording facts that my children may wish to know when no one is left to tell them; then came the opportunity to help with a Woods family history. These were my husband's people - staunch Associated Reformers. Scattered through attic treasure into which I delved were many elusive clues to a Lynch family, and I learned that my husband, also, had Quaker ancestry. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Life and Adventures of a Quaker Among the Indians In presenting this book to the public, the author lays no claim to literary merit, neither does he intend to bring himself or his labors too prominently before the world. Should anything, however, herein written appear to have the "ring" of egotism, it has arisen from his incapacity to separate himself from many of the a, incidents narrated. This book has been prepared, in view of the amount of "sensational" literature with o which our country is flooded, as a "little drop" among many which go to swell tho insetting tide of less exciting, less imaginative, but more healthful, more instructive publications, destined, to some extent at least, to take the place of the former.
