Book Principles of Lasers

Download or read book Principles of Lasers written by Orazio Svelto and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-09-29 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is motivated by the very favorable reception given to the previous editions as well as by the considerable range of new developments in the laser field since the publication of the third edition in 1989. These new developments include, among others, quantum-well and muitiple-quantum-welliasers, diode-pumped solid-state lasers, new concepts for both stable and unstable resonators, femtosecond lasers, ultra-high-brightness lasers, etc. This edition thus represents a radically revised version of the preceding edition, amounting essentially to a new book in its own right. However, the basic aim has remained the same, namely to provide a broad and unified description of laser behavior at the simplest level which is compatible with a correct physical understanding. The book is therefore intended as a textbook for a senior-level or first-year graduate course and/or as a reference book. The most relevant additions or changes to this edition can be summarized as follows: 1. A much-more detailed description of Amplified Spontaneous Emission has been given (Chapter 2) and a novel simplified treatment of this phenomenon, both for homogeneous and inhomogeneous lines, has been introduced (Appendix C). 2. A major fraction of a new chapter (Chapter 3) is dedicated to the interaction of radiation with semiconductor media, either in a bulk form or in a quantum-confined structure (quantum-well, quantum-wire and quantum dot). 3.

Book excerpt: A tutorial introduction to the field of dye lasers, Dye Laser Principles also serves as an up-to-date overview for those using dye lasers as research and industrial tools. A number of the issues discussed in this book are pertinent not only to dye lasers but also to lasers in general. Most of the chapters in the book contain problem sets that expand on the material covered in the chapter. Dye lasers are among the most versatile and successful laser sources currently available in use Offering both pulsed and continuous-wave operation and tunable from the near ultraviolet to the near infrared, these lasers are used in such diverse areas as: industrial applications, medical applications, military applications, large-scale laser isotope separation, fundamental physics, spectroscopic techniques, laser radar

Book Dye Lasers

    Book Details:
  • Author : K. H. Drexhage
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 1973
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 308 pages

Download or read book Dye Lasers written by K. H. Drexhage and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1973 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: VI spectrum of potential applications is outlined by T. W. HANSCH, who also touches briefly on the exciting field of laser spectroscopy, a most important application to which a forthcoming volume is devoted. The treatment, being tutorial in nature, is suitable both for graduate students and for scientists working in the dye-laser field or applying a dye laser in another research discipline. The book will also prove to be an indispensable and handy source of information for the specialist. The literature is reviewed up to spring 1973, and the list of additional references (which cites the titles of articles) extends to summer 1973. This is proof of an amazingly short publication period for a 300-page book. Heidelberg, October 1973 HELMUT K. V. LOTSCH Contents 1. Principles of Dye Laser Operation. By FRITZ P. Book Modern Aspects of Rare Earths and their Complexes

Download or read book Modern Aspects of Rare Earths and their Complexes written by Vinny R. Sastri and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-12-09 with total page 1005 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In order to use rare earths successfully in various applications, a good understanding of the chemistry of these elements is of paramount importance. Nearly three to four decades have passed since titles such as The Rare Earths edited by F.H. Spedding and A.H. Daane, The chemistry of the Rare Earth Elements by N.E. Topp and Complexes of the Rare Earths by S.P. Sinha were published. There have been many international conferences and symposia on rare earths, as well as the series of volumes entitled Handbook of Physics and Chemistry of Rare Earths edited by K.A. Gschneidner and L. Eyring. Thus, there is a need for a new title covering modern aspects of rare earth complexes along with the applications. The present title consists of twelve chapters. 1. Introduction2. General aspects3. Stability of complexes4. Lanthanide complexes5. Structural chemistry of lanthanide compounds6. Organometallic complexes7. Kinetics and mechanisms of rare earths complexation8. Spectroscopy of lanthanide complexes9. Photoelectron spectroscopy of rare earths10. Lanthanide NMR shift reagents11. Environmental ecological biological aspects12. Applications The authors studied in schools headed by pioneers in rare earth chemistry, have a combined experience of one hundred and fifty years in inorganic chemistry, rare earth complex chemistry, nuclear and radiochemistry of rare earths and supramolecular chemistry. The present monograph is a product of this rich experience.
