Book A Pure Christianity the World s Only Hope

Download or read book A Pure Christianity the World s Only Hope written by Robert W. Cushman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 119 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Pure Christianity the World's Only Hope The following little work, on the present aspect of Christianity and the duties of Christians, owes its origin to a resolution of the Ministerial Conference of the Boston Baptist Association, requesting the author to prepare an Essay on the responsibilities of the denomination with which they are connected. It was delivered before the Association at its thirty-third anniversary; and owes its appearance from the press to a unanimous vote of that body requesting its publication. It has been somewhat enlarged, however, and the notes have been added in confirmation, or illustration of its positions. The state of religion and morals under the influence of "Catholicism" is so well known, and so often dwelt upon by the pulpit and the press; and is, moreover, so generally considered as the starting point of reform - the ultima Thule of corruption; that the author thought it unnecessary to enlarge on it. His aim was to show what is less understood - that the Reformation has needed reforming. It is not a pleasant thing to animadvert on long established, religiously cherished errors. And it could be to no one more unpleasant than to the writer. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most popular source of theological hope for American Christians is that of Jrgen Moltmann. Preachers, teachers, and lay people reflect Moltmann's influence, with their hope in a this-worldly eschatology and a suffering God. However, an exclusive reliance on that hope deprives the church of crucial resources in the face of global economic, environmental, and military crises. This book explores Moltmannian hope and considers its costs before looking elsewhere for additional contributions, from Thomas Aquinas's theological virtue of hope to nihilism and beyond, in order to encourage the church to sustain and practice hope in Jesus Christ, our only hope.

  • Author : Jefferson Bethke

Download or read book Jesus Religion written by Jefferson Bethke and published by HarperChristian + ORM. This book was released on 2013-10-14 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abandon dead, dry, religious rule-keeping and embrace the promise of being truly known and deeply loved. Jefferson Bethke burst into the cultural conversation with a passionate, provocative poem titled "Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus." The 4-minute video became an overnight sensation, with 7 million YouTube views in its first 48 hours (and 23+ million in a year). Bethke's message clearly struck a chord with believers and nonbelievers alike, triggering an avalanche of responses running the gamut from encouraged to enraged. In his New York Times bestseller Jesus > Religion, Bethke unpacks similar contrasts that he drew in the poem--highlighting the difference between teeth gritting and grace, law and love, performance and peace, despair, and hope. With refreshing candor, he delves into the motivation behind his message, beginning with the unvarnished tale of his own plunge from the pinnacle of a works-based, fake-smile existence that sapped his strength and led him down a path of destructive behavior. Along the way, Bethke gives you the tools you need to: Humbly and prayerfully open your mind Understand Jesus for all that he is View the church from a brand-new perspective Bethke is quick to acknowledge that he's not a pastor or theologian, but simply an ordinary, twenty-something who cried out for a life greater than the one for which he had settled. On this journey, Bethke discovered the real Jesus, who beckoned him with love beyond the props of false religion. Praise for Jesus > Religion: "Jeff's book will make you stop and listen to a voice in your heart that may have been drowned out by the noise of religion. Listen to that voice, then follow it--right to the feet of Jesus." --Bob Goff, author of New York Times bestsellers Love Does and Everybody, Always "The book you hold in your hands is Donald Miller's Blue Like Jazz meets C. S. Lewis's Mere Christianity meets Augustine's Confessions. This book is going to awaken an entire generation to Jesus and His grace." --Derwin L. Gray, lead pastor of Transformation Church, author of Limitless Life: Breaking Free from the Labels That Hold You Back

Hope energizes people and communities, and also produces forbearance and patience. In this clear and accessible survey, which incorporates Asian perspectives, Roland Chia shows how Christian hope presses beyond the limits of both secular and religious world-views and confronts the reality of pain, suffering and death in the light of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is hope for God, and in God.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an L. A. County homicide detective and former atheist, Cold-Case Christianity examines the claims of the New Testament using the skills and strategies of a hard-to-convince criminal investigator. Christianity could be defined as a “cold case”: it makes a claim about an event from the distant past for which there is little forensic evidence. In Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace uses his nationally recognized skills as a homicide detective to look at the evidence and eyewitnesses behind Christian beliefs. Including gripping stories from his career and the visual techniques he developed in the courtroom, Wallace uses illustration to examine the powerful evidence that validates the claims of Christianity. A unique apologetic that speaks to readers’ intense interest in detective stories, Cold-Case Christianity inspires readers to have confidence in Christ as it prepares them to articulate the case for Christianity.

Download or read book The Only Hope written by Felix A. Lorenz and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on 2006 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Felix Lorenz traces the development of the doctrine of Laodiceanism in the Seventh-day Adventist Church through the writings of Ellen G. White and other historical documents. He shows how the church has risen or faltered spiritually according to whether it has accepted or ignored the Laodicean teaching and the concept of righteousness by faith. But even more, he brings the reader to the realization that each one of us must apply the implications of these teachings to his own personal life if the church is to accomplish its divine goal. Pastor H.M.S. Richards calls it "the most hopeful and stirring appeal for the reception and proclamation of the Lord's message to Laodicea that I have ever read or heard." Lorenz writes from many decades of research and teaching on this subject. He has served as a conference official and as a college and academy teacher.
