Le second membre de cette équation est un polynome dont le degré est l'exposant critique de Sobolev. Cela signifie qu'il faut démonter que les extrema de la fonctionnelle, qui sont les solutions de l'équation, sont atteints en des points de l'espace de Sobolev h. Nous démontrons l'importance de la condition au bord sur l'existence d'une solution. En effet si la condition sur le bord est une condition de Dirichlet homogène, on peut construire pour chaque niveau d'énergie, un domaine non-étoile pour lequel la seule solution d'énergie inférieure a ce niveau est la solution identiquement nulle. En revanche, si l'on impose une condition de Neumann homogène sur le bord, on démontre que l'équation admet toujours une solution pourvu que le domaine soit assez régulier

This book stems from lectures notes of a Master 2 class held at UPMC between 2004 and 2007. A selection of mathematical techniques geared towards the resolution of semilinear and quasilinear elliptic partial differential equations is presented. After a short survival guide in basic real and functional analysis for PDEs, without proofs for the most well-known results, we walk through the classical fixed point theorems, the superposition operators in Lebesgue and Sobolev spaces, the Galerkin method, the maximum principles and elliptic regularity, we make a rather long foray into various aspects of the calculus of variations, and conclude with monotone and pseudo-monotone operators, by way of numerous examples. Each chapter is complemented by a number of exercises that grows with the chapter number as more and more material is made available.

La partie centrale est dédiée à l'étude de la validité de théorèmes de type Liouville pour opérateurs elliptiques linéaires, semi linéaires et complètement non linéaires. Avec "théorèmes de type Liouville" on entend l'unicité (multiplication par une constante près dans le cas des équations linéaires) des solutions bornées (parfois positives) d'une équation elliptique dans un domaine non borné, en analogie avec le théorème classique pour fonctions harmoniques. Nous avons montré que le théorème de type Liouville est valable pour les opérateurs linéaires à coefficients périodiques dans tout l'espace et il n'est plus valable en générale si les coefficients sont seulement presque périodiques.Pour démontrer des théorèmes de Liouville pour des équations semi linéaires on a du introduire des notions qui généralisent celle de la valeur propre principale. Les définitions et l'étude des propriétés de ces valeurs propres principales généralisées font l'objet de la première partie de la thèse, qui est la plus abstraite. La partie regardante les équations elliptiques est conclue par des résultats d'unicité de solutions de viscosité non négatives pour une classe d'équations complètement non linéaires. Le dernier sujet traité dans la thèse est celui des équations de réaction diffusion et, en particulier, de l'étude du comportement des solutions à long terme. L'un des résultats présentés regarde des équations avec vitesse forcée, qui interviennent dans plusieurs modèles de mathématiques appliquées, notamment en écologie.

Les conditions aux bords sont mixtes de type Dirichlet et Newmann. Nous utilisons la méthode de sous- et sur-solutions. La difficulté ici est le fait que le domaine possède des coins. Dans la troisième partie, nous étudions comme dans la première partie l'existence d'ondes progressives dans un domaine cylindrique infini dans le cas où le terme source change plusieurs fois de signe. Nous établissons une condition nécessaire et suffisante pour l'existence d'une onde. Enfin la quatrième partie a pour objet l'étude de la symétrie de solutions positives d'une équation aux dérivées partielles elliptique semi-linéaire dans des domaines sectoriels avec des conditions aux bords mixtes de Dirichlet et Newmann et utilise des développements récents sur la méthode de déplacement d'hyperplans

Proposed by John Pollard in 1988, the method was used in 1990 to factor the ninth Fermat number, a 155-digit integer. The algorithm is most suited to numbers of a special form, but there is a promising variant that applies in general. This volume contains six research papers that describe the operation of the number field sieve, from both theoretical and practical perspectives. Pollard's original manuscript is included. In addition, there is an annotated bibliography of directly related literature.
