Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the edited Proceedings of the Sixth World Round Table Conference on Sintering, held in Herceg-Novi, Yugoslavia on September 2-6, 1985. It was organized by the International Institute for the Science of Sintering (IISS), headquartered in Beograd. Every fourth year since 1969, the Institute has organized such a Round Table Conference on Sintering, each has taken place at some selected lo cation within Yugoslavia. A separate series of IISS Summer Schools have also been held at four year intervals, but they have been offset by about two years, so they occur between the main Conferences. As a rule, the Summer Schools have been devoted to more specific topics and they also take place in different countries. The aim of these Conferences and their related Summer Schools has been to bring together scientists from allover the world who work in various fields of science and technology concerned with sinter ing and sintered materials. A total of six IISS Conferences have been held over the period 1969-1985, and they have been supplemented by the three Summer Schools held in Yugoslavia, Poland and India (in 1975, 1979 and 1983, respectively). This most recent five day Conference addressed the fundamental scien tific background as well as the technological state-of-the-art in sintering and sintered materials. It encompassed many of the high technology sintered materials needed for a wide variety of research and industrial applications.

Z.S. Nikolic (Serbia) provides a theoretical review of the simulation of liquid-phase sintering, particularly under microgravity conditions, and extensively and critically reviews the results reported in the sintering literature. A.L. Lisovsky (Ukraine) opens up the vista of deconsolidation of polycrystalline skeletons in sintered composite materials, and deals with systems having more than one refractory solid phase, and with nanodispersed composite materials. G.S. The sintering of titanium alloys is another topic focused in this section. The chapter on lead and zinc covers the sintering in the field of extractive metallurgy. Finally two more chapter focus on the basics of sintering,i.e viscous flow and spark plasma sintering.

Book Densification of Metal Powders During Sintering

Download or read book Densification of Metal Powders During Sintering written by V. A. Invenson and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sintering of powder metal compacts is one of the basic oper ations in powder metallurgy. The useful properties of a machine part are obtained after considerable densification of the sintered material. Although the mechanical properties of the part depend on other structural factors besides porosity, porosity is the main factor. Usually, the practical problem in sintering is to obtain a part with the desired or permissible porosity. Thus, knowledge of the laws governing densification and its final result is neces sary to control this process in the production of powder metal parts. The laws governing densification are also important for a more exact physical theory of sintering, which is still in the initial stages of its development. Such processes as the change in the density of lattice defects and the flow of crystalline substances during sintering have not yet received a complete physical inter pretation. Analysis of the laws of sintering may provide addition al material for more complete phenomenological characteristics of these processes that will be useful for further development of theoretical concepts of the flow of imperfect crystals under small loads. Although a substantial amount of experimental material has been accumulated, generalizations are still difficult.

Book Advanced Science and Technology of Sintering

This book was released on 2011-06-28 with total page 635 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume entitled Advanced Science and Technology of Sintering, contains the edited Proceedings of the Ninth World Round Table Conference on Sintering (IX WRTCS), held in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, September 1-4 1998. The gathering was one in a series of World Round Table Conferences on Sintering organised every four years by the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) and the International Institute for the Science of Sintering (IISS). The World Round Table Conferences on Sintering have been traditionally held in Yugoslavia. The first meeting was organised in Herceg Novi in 1969 and since then they have regularly gathered the scientific elite in the science of sintering. It is not by chance that, at these conferences, G. C. Kuczynski, G. V. Samsonov, R. Coble, Ya. E. Geguzin and other great names in this branch of science presented their latest results making great qualitative leaps in the its development. Belgrade hosted this conference for the first time. It was chosen as a reminder that 30 years ago it was the place where the International Team for Sintering was formed, further growing into the International Institute for the Science of Sintering. The IX WRTCS lasted four days. It included 156 participants from 17 countries who presented the results of their theoretical and experimental research in 130 papers in the form of plenary lectures, oral presentations and poster sections.

Book Sintering From Empirical Observations to Scientific Principles

Download or read book Sintering From Empirical Observations to Scientific Principles written by Randall German and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2014-02-07 with total page 549 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As sintering applications march toward a $30 billion global business, the models for sintering have progressed, but generally follow behind observation. Documentation of the steps needed to build to a quantitative and predictive theory are often missed. Sintering: From Empirical Observations to Scientific Principles partitions sintering applications and observations to show critical turning points required to establish modern sintering as a predictive science. This book, written by the most cited author in his field, is laced with people, organizations, critical steps, and important formulations in a mixture of history, personalities, and applications. Exploring how insights in seemingly unrelated fields sparked progress, it is also a teaching tool to show where there is success, where there are problems, and how to organize teams to leapfrog to new applications or plateaus of use. Randall German's Sintering: From Empirical Observations to Scientific Principles is a platform for directly addressing the critical control parameters in these new research and development efforts. Shows how the theories and understanding of sintering were developed and improved over time, and how different products were developed, ultimately leading to important knowledge and lessons for solving real sintering problems Covers all the necessary infrastructure of sintering theory and practice, such as atomic theory, surface energy, microstructure, and measurement and observation tools Introduces the history and development of such early sintered products as porcelain, tungsten lamp filaments, bronze bearings, steel automotive components, platinum crucibles and more
