Book Analysis of Monge Amp re Equations

Download or read book Analysis of Monge Amp re Equations written by Nam Q. Le and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2024-03-07 with total page 599 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic analysis of the Monge–Ampère equation, the linearized Monge–Ampère equation, and their applications, with emphasis on both interior and boundary theories. Starting from scratch, it gives an extensive survey of fundamental results, essential techniques, and intriguing phenomena in the solvability, geometry, and regularity of Monge–Ampère equations. It describes in depth diverse applications arising in geometry, fluid mechanics, meteorology, economics, and the calculus of variations. The modern treatment of boundary behaviors of solutions to Monge–Ampère equations, a very important topic of the theory, is thoroughly discussed. The book synthesizes many important recent advances, including Savin's boundary localization theorem, spectral theory, and interior and boundary regularity in Sobolev and Hölder spaces with optimal assumptions. It highlights geometric aspects of the theory and connections with adjacent research areas. This self-contained book provides the necessary background and techniques in convex geometry, real analysis, and partial differential equations, presents detailed proofs of all theorems, explains subtle constructions, and includes well over a hundred exercises. It can serve as an accessible text for graduate students as well as researchers interested in this subject.

Book A Priori Estimates of the Degenerate Monge Amp re Equation on Compact K hler Manifolds

Download or read book A Priori Estimates of the Degenerate Monge Amp re Equation on Compact K hler Manifolds written by Sebastien Picard and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The regularity theory of the degenerate complex Monge-Ampère equation is studied. First, the equation is considered on a compact Kahler manifold without boundary. Accordingly, some background information on Kahler geometry is presented. Given a solution of the degenerate complex Monge-Ampère equation, it is shown that its oscillation and gradient can be bounded. The Laplacian of the solution is also estimated. There is a slight improvement from the literature on the conditions required in order to obtain the estimate on the Laplacian of the solution, however the estimates developed only hold in the case of manifolds with non-negative bisectional curvature. As an application, a Dirichlet problem in complex space is considered. The obtained estimates are used to show existence and uniqueness of pluri-subharmonic solutions to the degenerate complex Monge-Ampere equation in a domain in complex space." --

Book Regularity Theory for Quasilinear Elliptic Systems and Monge Ampere Equations in Two Dimensions

Download or read book Regularity Theory for Quasilinear Elliptic Systems and Monge Ampere Equations in Two Dimensions written by Friedmar Schulz and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-12-08 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These lecture notes have been written as an introduction to the characteristic theory for two-dimensional Monge-Ampère equations, a theory largely developed by H. Lewy and E. Heinz which has never been presented in book form. An exposition of the Heinz-Lewy theory requires auxiliary material which can be found in various monographs, but which is presented here, in part because the focus is different, and also because these notes have an introductory character. Self-contained introductions to the regularity theory of elliptic systems, the theory of pseudoanalytic functions and the theory of conformal mappings are included. These notes grew out of a seminar given at the University of Kentucky in the fall of 1988 and are intended for graduate students and researchers interested in this area.

Book Nonlinear Analysis on Manifolds Monge Amp re Equations

Download or read book Nonlinear Analysis on Manifolds Monge Amp re Equations written by Thierry Aubin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is intended to allow mathematicians and physicists, especially analysts, to learn about nonlinear problems which arise in Riemannian Geometry. Analysis on Riemannian manifolds is a field currently undergoing great development. More and more, analysis proves to be a very powerful means for solving geometrical problems. Conversely, geometry may help us to solve certain problems in analysis. There are several reasons why the topic is difficult and interesting. It is very large and almost unexplored. On the other hand, geometric problems often lead to limiting cases of known problems in analysis, sometimes there is even more than one approach, and the already existing theoretical studies are inadequate to solve them. Each problem has its own particular difficulties. Nevertheless there exist some standard methods which are useful and which we must know to apply them. One should not forget that our problems are motivated by geometry, and that a geometrical argument may simplify the problem under investigation. Examples of this kind are still too rare. This work is neither a systematic study of a mathematical field nor the presentation of a lot of theoretical knowledge. On the contrary, I do my best to limit the text to the essential knowledge. I define as few concepts as possible and give only basic theorems which are useful for our topic. But I hope that the reader will find this sufficient to solve other geometrical problems by analysis.

Book The Monge Amp re Equation

Download or read book The Monge Amp re Equation written by Cristian E. Gutiérrez and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2018-06-16 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in its second edition, this monograph explores the Monge-Ampère equation and the latest advances in its study and applications. It provides an essentially self-contained systematic exposition of the theory of weak solutions, including regularity results by L. A. Caffarelli. The geometric aspects of this theory are stressed using techniques from harmonic analysis, such as covering lemmas and set decompositions. An effort is made to present complete proofs of all theorems, and examples and exercises are offered to further illustrate important concepts. Some of the topics considered include generalized solutions, non-divergence equations, cross sections, and convex solutions. New to this edition is a chapter on the linearized Monge-Ampère equation and a chapter on interior Hölder estimates for second derivatives. Bibliographic notes, updated and expanded from the first edition, are included at the end of every chapter for further reading on Monge-Ampère-type equations and their diverse applications in the areas of differential geometry, the calculus of variations, optimization problems, optimal mass transport, and geometric optics. Both researchers and graduate students working on nonlinear differential equations and their applications will find this to be a useful and concise resource.

Book An Introduction to the K hler Ricci Flow

Download or read book An Introduction to the K hler Ricci Flow written by Sebastien Boucksom and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-10-02 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume collects lecture notes from courses offered at several conferences and workshops, and provides the first exposition in book form of the basic theory of the Kähler-Ricci flow and its current state-of-the-art. While several excellent books on Kähler-Einstein geometry are available, there have been no such works on the Kähler-Ricci flow. The book will serve as a valuable resource for graduate students and researchers in complex differential geometry, complex algebraic geometry and Riemannian geometry, and will hopefully foster further developments in this fascinating area of research. The Ricci flow was first introduced by R. Hamilton in the early 1980s, and is central in G. Perelman’s celebrated proof of the Poincaré conjecture. When specialized for Kähler manifolds, it becomes the Kähler-Ricci flow, and reduces to a scalar PDE (parabolic complex Monge-Ampère equation). As a spin-off of his breakthrough, G. Perelman proved the convergence of the Kähler-Ricci flow on Kähler-Einstein manifolds of positive scalar curvature (Fano manifolds). Shortly after, G. Tian and J. Song discovered a complex analogue of Perelman’s ideas: the Kähler-Ricci flow is a metric embodiment of the Minimal Model Program of the underlying manifold, and flips and divisorial contractions assume the role of Perelman’s surgeries.

Book Pluripotential Theory

Download or read book Pluripotential Theory written by Maciej Klimek and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pluripotential theory is a recently developed non-linear complex counterpart of classical potential theory. Its main area of application is multidimensional complex analysis. The central part of the pluripotential theory is occupied by maximal plurisubharmonic functions and the generalized complex Monge-Ampere operator. The interplay between these two concepts provides the focal point of this monograph, which contains an up-to-date account of the developments from the large volume of recent work in this area. A substantial proportion of the work is devoted to classical properties of subharmonic and plurisubharmonic functions, which makes the pluripotential theory available for the first time to a wide audience of analysts.

Book Elliptic Partial Differential Equations of Second Order

Download or read book Elliptic Partial Differential Equations of Second Order written by D. Gilbarg and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is intended as an essentially self contained exposition of portions of the theory of second order quasilinear elliptic partial differential equations, with emphasis on the Dirichlet problem in bounded domains. It grew out of lecture notes for graduate courses by the authors at Stanford University, the final material extending well beyond the scope of these courses. By including preparatory chapters on topics such as potential theory and functional analysis, we have attempted to make the work accessible to a broad spectrum of readers. Above all, we hope the readers of this book will gain an appreciation of the multitude of ingenious barehanded techniques that have been developed in the study of elliptic equations and have become part of the repertoire of analysis. Many individuals have assisted us during the evolution of this work over the past several years. In particular, we are grateful for the valuable discussions with L. M. Simon and his contributions in Sections 15.4 to 15.8; for the helpful comments and corrections of J. M. Cross, A. S. Geue, J. Nash, P. Trudinger and B. Turkington; for the contributions of G. Williams in Section 10.5 and of A. S. Geue in Section 10.6; and for the impeccably typed manuscript which resulted from the dedicated efforts oflsolde Field at Stanford and Anna Zalucki at Canberra. The research of the authors connected with this volume was supported in part by the National Science Foundation.
