The practical work has now been limited to a one year's course, and theory has disappeared from the syllabus. Under these circum stances it is'thought that many young teachers will more than ever require assistance to Supplement their very brief and very empirical training. This little primer is a contribution towards that assistance, and it is hoped that it may be a real aid to those. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The book provides a reference point for beginning educational researchers to grasp the most pertinent elements of designing and conducting research..." —Megan Tschannen-Moran, The College of William & Mary Quantitative Research in Education: A Primer, Second Edition is a brief and practical text designed to allay anxiety about quantitative research. Award-winning authors Wayne K. Hoy and Curt M. Adams first introduce readers to the nature of research and science, and then present the meaning of concepts and research problems as they dispel notions that quantitative research is too difficult, too theoretical, and not practical. Rich with concrete examples and illustrations, the Primer emphasizes conceptual understanding and the practical utility of quantitative methods while teaching strategies and techniques for developing original research hypotheses. The Second Edition includes suggestions for empirical investigation and features a new section on self-determination theory, examples from the latest research, a concluding chapter illustrating the practical applications of quantitative research, and much more. This accessible Primer is perfect for students and researchers who want a quick understanding of the process of scientific inquiry and who want to learn how to effectively create and test ideas.

Book A Primer General Method

Download or read book A Primer General Method written by Sidney Edward Lang and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Primer General Method: Being an Introduction to Educational Theory and Practice on the Basis of Logic, for Use in Normal Schools Educational science must seek for materials in many fields. The purpose here is to point out certain considerations drawn from the study of Logic which have a direct bearing upon educational theory and practice. Psychology is almost invariably given a place on programmes for the training of teachers. It deals, however, with mental life in its structural aspects chiefly; and the educator cannot afford to omit or postpone the study of the functional side of mind. He is vitally interested in problems relating to the value or validity of cognitive processes which psychology aims simply to describe. He must enquire into the value of feeling as well as into its various forms. He cannot be satisfied with a mere description of volitional experience, but desires to go forward to a valuation of conduct. The three closely connected fields of logic, aesthetics, and ethics thus lie alongside that of psychology in a complementary relation which cannot be ignored in a programme of studies for Normal Schools. Indeed, the beginner in educational science might far more easily dispense with Psychology than with Logic.
