Book A Manual of Surgical Treatment Vol 1 of 6 Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Manual of Surgical Treatment Vol 1 of 6 Classic Reprint written by William Watson Cheyne and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-20 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual of Surgical Treatment, Vol. 1 of 6 The subject of Surgery has now become so extensive that any work attempting to deal with it in an exhaustive manner must necessarily be so large and unwieldy as to be suitable only for purposes of reference, or for the use of those who devote themselves exclusively to its practice. In any text-book of convenient size the information given in certain branches of the subject must therefore be considerably condensed, and, as the first essential for the beginner is to have the fullest knowledge of the nature and characters of the diseases that he has to study, special stress is usually laid upon pathology, symptomatology, and diagnosis. For the practitioner, on the other hand, who is already acquainted with these points, the great essential is full and detailed information as to the best methods of treatment. We have ourselves frequently experienced the want of detailed informa tion, especially. As regards the after-treatment'of our cases, and have had to learn the best methods of procedure from experience. Nothing can of course replace experience, but it is often of the greatest advantage to have a detailed record of that of others upon which to base one's work. It is this want that the present work is intended to supply. We have tried to put ourselves in the place of those who have to treat a given case for the first time, and we have endeavoured to supply them with details as to treatment from the commencement to the termination of the illness. We have assumed that the reader is familiar with the nature and diagnosis of the disease, and we only refer to the pathology and symptoms in so far as it is necessary to render intelligible the principles on which the treatment is based, and the various stages of the disease to which each particular method is applicable. Book The After Treatment of Operations

Download or read book The After Treatment of Operations written by P. Lockhart-Mummery and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The After-Treatment of Operations: Manual for Practitioners and House Surgeons I have attempted in the present manual to put the subject in a useful and practical form for ready reference by those who, having to treat such cases, wish to know what complications may be expected, and how they are to be met when present. The after-treatment of operation cases adopted by different surgeons varies very considerably. But as no good purpose would be served by a recital of all the different methods, I have given in each case that line of treatment which seems to be the most practical, and have avoided entering into any discussion upon the relative merits of the different forms of treatment sometimes adopted. In the chapter on shock, a short description of the more recent physiology of this condition has been included, in the hope that it may assist the reader in the treatment of this most important complication. Book Surgical Treatment Vol 1 of 3

Download or read book Surgical Treatment Vol 1 of 3 written by James Peter Warbasse and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-22 with total page 946 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Surgical Treatment, Vol. 1 of 3: A Practical Treatise on the Therapy of Surgical Diseases for the Use of Practitioners and Students of Surgery This work has been written in the interest of the surgical patient. The object has been to place in the hands of the surgeon the means for rendering help in every surgical condition under all circumstances. The aim has been to make this information easily accessible, and its application practical. In most surgical diseases there is an ideal course of treatment which may be pursued and which represents the highest possibility of surgery. The author has endeavored to present this maximum of treatment. Every consideration has been given to direct the surgeon toward the ideal of perfection. In many instances its application requires especial skill and knowledge. The author is aware that circumstances may surround both the patient and the surgeon which make impossible the applying of the ideal measures, or render such attempts inexpedient. As an admission of these circumstances this work presents alternatives of treatment which may be employed if the best thing possible cannot be done. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Manual for the Practice of Surgery I am well aware that I have failed to realize in the execution of my task the ideal standard I at starting proposed to myself, and I knew, when I first under took to write the book, how difficult it was to compress the treatment of the vast range of subjects included. Under the title of Surgery into one volume, but my object was to Offer such an epitome of the main principles and methods Of practice as should be serviceable to the student and practitioner; and from the reception the first edition of this work, published in November, 1872, has met with in Great Britain and America, I feel justified in saying that I have not failed in the attempt, and that the book Supplied a want felt by the professional public. To the many reviewers who have acknowledged my labors so fairly and so fully my thanks are clearly due, but still more to the profession, which has wel comed my humble services so kindly. Fully alive, therefore, to the generous appreciation of my past work, and assur ing my readers that no pains have been spared to bring the present up to as high a standard as my time and Opportunities have allowed, I submit it in all confidence to the kind consideration of mv professional brethren as no unworthy exposition of modern British surgery. Book Practical Surgery for the General Practitioner Classic Reprint

Download or read book Practical Surgery for the General Practitioner Classic Reprint written by Nicholas Senn and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-21 with total page 1190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Practical Surgery for the General Practitioner This book is not intended to cover the whole field of surgery. Its contents are devoted to those sections of surgery that are of especial interest to the general practitioner. Injuries and acute surgical diseases usually first come under the treatment of the general practitioner, and as the fate of the patient often depends on the efficiency of the first aid rendered, it is evident that the attending physician should be thoroughly trained and competent in everything that pertains to emergency work. The average medical student is more interested in surgery than in medicine, and the surgical training he receives ought to qualify him to treat all kinds of emergency cases with credit to himself and with benefit to his patients. Neglect and mistakes made in this department of professional work are often difficult to balance and correct later. The general practitioner should never lose interest in the surgical work that naturally belongs to him, and should endeavor to keep abreast of the advances and improvements that are constantly being made. His surgical field, although limited, is yet a very important one, and fraught with great responsibilities. He must be familiar with surgical diagnosis, and must acquire sufficient surgical technic to enable him to act wisely and safely in all surgical cases in which immediate action is an absolute necessity to the preservation of life or to the protection of the patient against remote disastrous complications. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Railway Surgery: A Handbook on the Management of Injuries We freely admit that there are many railway injuries that do not present any points of difference on account of their cause, still it is believed that ability to note special features in any class of cases not only leads to the possibility of better judgment being exercised in the treatment of such cases, but enables one to secure more satisfactory results in the treatment of injuries of any nature. This work, as its title implies, is intended merely as a practical handbook to show wherein the injuries ordinarily met with in railway service differ from those incident to other occupations, and to direct special lines in their diag nosis, treatment, and management.
