Book Decision Making with the Analytic Network Process

Download or read book Decision Making with the Analytic Network Process written by Thomas L. Saaty and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-09-10 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This note from Prof. Vargas regarding a competitive title by Prof. Saaty with an almost identical title (THEORY AND APPLICATIONS OF THE ANALYTIC NETWORK PROCESS: Decision Making with Benefits, Opportunities, Costs, and Risks. RWS Publications, 2005): "The other book is theoretical with passing mention of examples to show how the subject is used. In our book (the one you have) the applications are different and given in full detail relevance and originality. They have never appeared in print as they are here and most users would prefer them to the theoretical book. In addition chapter 1 summarizes the theory given in four chapters on the book showing the important parts without going into too much detail. I would rather read this book than the other one definitely and this could not have been done so elegantly had not the other been written before. Therefore this book has the cream of the ideas and the best published applications so far."

Book Real World Decision Support Systems

Download or read book Real World Decision Support Systems written by Jason Papathanasiou and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-19 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents real-world decision support systems, i.e., systems that have been running for some time and as such have been tested in real environments and complex situations; the cases are from various application domains and highlight the best practices in each stage of the system’s life cycle, from the initial requirements analysis and design phases to the final stages of the project. Each chapter provides decision-makers with recommendations and insights into lessons learned so that failures can be avoided and successes repeated. For this reason unsuccessful cases, which at some point of their life cycle were deemed as failures for one reason or another, are also included. All decision support systems are presented in a constructive, coherent and deductive manner to enhance the learning effect. It complements the many works that focus on theoretical aspects or individual module design and development by offering ‘good’ and ‘bad’ practices when developing and using decision support systems. Combining high-quality research with real-world implementations, it is of interest to researchers and professionals in industry alike.

Book Handbook on Decision Making

Download or read book Handbook on Decision Making written by Chee Peng Lim and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-07 with total page 539 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Decision making arises when we wish to select the best possible course of action from a set of alternatives. With advancements of the digital technologies, it is easy, and almost instantaneous, to gather a large volume of information and/or data pertaining to a problem that we want to solve. For instance, the world-wi- web is perhaps the primary source of information and/or data that we often turn to when we face a decision making problem. However, the information and/or data that we obtain from the real world often are complex, and comprise various kinds of noise. Besides, real-world information and/or data often are incomplete and ambiguous, owing to uncertainties of the environments. All these make decision making a challenging task. To cope with the challenges of decision making, - searchers have designed and developed a variety of decision support systems to provide assistance in human decision making processes. The main aim of this book is to provide a small collection of techniques stemmed from artificial intelligence, as well as other complementary methodo- gies, that are useful for the design and development of intelligent decision support systems. Application examples of how these intelligent decision support systems can be utilized to help tackle a variety of real-world problems in different - mains, e. g. business, management, manufacturing, transportation and food ind- tries, and biomedicine, are also presented. A total of twenty chapters, which can be broadly divided into two parts, i. e.

Book Co oP

Download or read book Co oP written by Tung X. Bui and published by Springer. This book was released on 1987 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes an approach to analyzing, designing and implementing Group Decision Support Systems (GDSS). The experience gained in developing a concrete system, Co-oP, suggests that GDSS should be distributed, loosely-coupled and process-driven. A distributed and loosely-coupled GDSS architecture provides autonomy and flexibility for individual decision-making, and homogeneity and simplicity for group problem solving. Also, process-driven GDSS are able to deal with the unpredictable nature of group problems since collective decision processes have been shown to be the only elements in a GDSS that are (i) stable enough to fit into most collective problems, (ii) reasonably structurable to be implementable, and (iii) sufficiently controllable to guarantee appropriate use. From a Multiple Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) viewpoint, this book supports the integrated use of various MCDM methods to help a GDSS (i) support a wide range of decision situations, (ii) attenuate the difficulty of information search, (iii) allow division of decision-making tasks, and (iv) permit consensus seeking analysis. Co-oP runs on a network of individual workstations. It contains a set of MCDM methods, techniques of aggregation of preferences, and a consensus seeking algorithm to support negotiation. Electronic communication among group members is monitored by a group norm filter which is adaptable to a large number of collective decision situations. This book also reports some empirical evaluations of Co-oP and expands the proposed approach to non-cooperation and organizational decision-making.
