Book A Potpourri of Playful Poems

Download or read book A Potpourri of Playful Poems written by Alaina Gupta and published by . This book was released on 2021-12-06 with total page 49 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2020 pandemic was hard, but then as an eight-year-old girl, Alaina picked up poetry and found a way to make everyone smile. Certainly, the inspirations and sparks had come before, but thanks to the encouragement from her teacher and mentors, she belted out one poem after another. This book is a collection of her first thirty poems: a combination of wit, humor, and occasional wonder. Journey into a wacky world where one can witness a remarkable race, take a trip to the dentist and turn on the News to an awkward channel. Think vaccines, see some swinging sloths, and maybe, cautiously buy some ice cream. There are mountains to climb, surgeries to see, and blossoms to explode in this skillfully crafted, poetry anthology, where hope and humor reign supreme.

Book excerpt: In Potpourri, you’ll find a thoughtful collection of poems and short essays that take you on a journey from the personal to the divine of a woman who is seeking truth and her place through the circumstances of life. Thought-provoking and funny, her point of view on a variety of areas of life may bring you to a new appreciation, new thoughts, and a new outlook on life. A wide-ranging contemplation of a surprising variety of topics include a look at law enforcement from the viewpoint of a wife and a moving look at aging. Her working out of a spiritual life will bring you a fresh perspective. Humor jumps out at you in unexpected places. A quiet joy weaves throughout. You’ll relate to the questioning of things from gossip to unicorns and may find your feelings and struggles put into words. At times, you’ll say, “Yes! That’s how I feel.” Throughout you’ll find a connection and feel you’re with an old friend. As usual, she ends her book with short, inspirational, and funny words of wisdom in her last chapter titled “ Kathryn’s Kwips and Kwotes.” Reading them is a great way to start your day or in those few quiet moments when you need a lift. This is a great book to take along when you’re waiting for the kids at soccer practice or at the doctor’s office.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Potpourri" is the tenth and final volume in the Godey's Poetry Anthology Series. It presents a varied collection of poetic styles and themes both humorous and serious; as such, it is perhaps the volume most truly representative of Godey's poetry overall. From the beginning, the aim of this anthology project has been to rediscover and present voices from the past, giving new life to long-forgotten or overlooked poetry. By no means did every poem fit into the category of "great" poetry, but each of the 470 poems used in the series told us something about the lives and times of the poets and the readers of nineteenth century America. Each of the nine previous volumes was organized around a theme: the sea, mourning, sonnets, nature, etc. but inevitably, at the end of the process, there were poems left over that had not found their way into any of these categories. Rather than leave them out altogether, seventy of them were collected and included in this volume: a real miscellany of voices and ideas. Godey's Lady's Book (1830-1877) was the most widely circulated American magazine of the nineteenth century. As such, it represents a unique time capsule of American experience, ideas, and expression. By reading and rediscovering the poetry published in Godey's we can not only connect in some way with nineteenth century experience, we can often find poems that resonate with and touch us today. I hope you find much to enjoy in this volume.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jeanette Dowdell knows that life is a miracle filled with magic that does not promise guarantees. In a potpourri of poetry, she shares diverse reflections about life, beauty, meaning, joy, sorrow, friendships, family, and special moments that all offer the same message: to never give up. Dowdells light-hearted poems begin by exploring her childhood when she refused to keep her white high-top shoes on, loved surprises in cereal boxes, and devoured delicious treats from local bakeries. As she moves into poems that explore the role of fate, misty moments, wakeful dreaming, and love, Dowdell shines a light on all that life has to offer while encouraging others live in the moment, observe the beauty around them, and build memories that last a lifetime. Life . . . Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow shares a compilation of poems that reflect on one womans unique journey through life as she learns to embrace the miracle of her existence and never give up.
