Download or read book A Poet s Ballad A Crossword Mystery written by Aditya Banerjee and published by Aditya Banerjee. This book was released on 2023-10-11 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It’s 1980, and Mahesh Pal has just a couple of weeks before he flies out to start a new life in London for his doctoral studies. It hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing: His parents are unhappy that he hasn’t taken charge of the family business and settled down with a wife and kids. They are even more disappointed in his desire to move abroad. Mahesh remains steadfast in his decision until he receives an unusual letter. A professor whom he barely knew, Devesh Tripathi, has passed away, leaving behind a box of possessions that Mahesh must retrieve in person. Before he knows it, he is on a train to Benares to pick up the box before leaving for London. Aarvi Lal, the daughter of a local Benares bookseller, enjoys working with her father in his shop. Books are her whole world, and she’s dreading the day of her marriage—as well as all that will change with it when she starts a new life with her husband. But things take a mysterious turn when she’s informed that Devesh, her father’s friend, has left behind a folder and books for her. Mahesh and Aarvi discover that they have received a series of crosswords, and solving them unearths cryptic clues. Their answers unravel a mystery about who Devesh truly was and whether his death was really an accident. But why did he choose them, two crossword puzzle aficionados from different corners of India, to reveal the truth? As the pair get closer to finding the answer, they form a friendship that quickly blossoms into something more. But they are running out of time . . . and solving the mystery has bigger implications than they had ever anticipated. A Poet’s Ballad: A Crossword Mystery is a charming, wistful tale about two characters who find themselves at major crossroads in their lives; one because of their own choices and the other due to parental and societal expectations.

Book Gender in Solomon s Song of Songs

Download or read book Gender in Solomon s Song of Songs written by Alastair Ian Haines and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-12-14 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The thesis shows that the Song of Songs can be read as a circular sequence of sub-poems, that follow logically from one another if they are understood as contributing to two main points, made in a woman's voice. The woman urges men to take romantic initiative to be committed exclusively and for life, and urges women three times to wait until they are approached by such men. If this reading is the best explanation of the text of the Song, then the Song is a unified work centered on a woman singing about human romantic love from a woman's perspective.

  • Author : Philip Furia
  • Publisher : Oxford University Press
  • Release : 2016
  • ISBN : 0199391874
  • Pages : 279 pages

Download or read book The American Song Book written by Philip Furia and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The American Song Book, Volume I: The Tin Pan Alley Era is the first in a projected five-volume series of books that will reprint original sheet music, including covers, of songs that constitute the enduring standards of Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, the Gershwins, and other lyricists and composers of what has been called the "Golden Age" of American popular music. These songs have done what popular songs are not supposed to do--stayed popular ... As such, these songs constitute the closest thing America has to a repertory of enduring classical music. In addition to reprinting the sheet music for these classic songs, authors Philip Furia and Laurie Patterson place these songs in historical context with essays about the sheet-music publishing industry known as Tin Pan Alley, the emergence of American musical comedy on Broadway, and the 'talkie' revolution that made possible the Hollywood musical. The authors also provide biographical sketches of songwriters, performers, and impresarios such as Florenz Ziegfeld. In addition, they analyze the lyrical and musical artistry of each song and relate anecdotes, sometimes amusing, sometimes poignant, about how the songs were created. The American Songbook is a book that can be read for enjoyment on its own or be propped on the piano to be played and sung"--Back cover.
