Download or read book A Plea for Eclectic Medicine Classic Reprint written by O. O. Thwing and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02-12 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Plea for Eclectic Medicine The necessity of reform in medicine, politics or religion, is never broached by the established or ruling class. The slightest innovations upon time honored customs, is met by the cry of heresy - hence, chronic evils in the body politic, remain so long uncorrected. The dearest liberties of the people have never been obtained except they were wrested from the grasp of tyrants. The free and restless spirit which unlocked the monkish Cloisters of the middle ages, giving breadth and scope to conscience, lib erty and learning, at length gave birth to Eclecticism, in religion. Law and medicine. But these strides in the way of professional freedom and ad vancement, were not made without struggles, conflicts and revolutions. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Eclectic Practice of MedicineFever is divided into two classes, idiopathic and symptomatic in the first, there is no apreciable lesion Of the solids, at least at its commencement, we therefore say that it is primarily a disease Of the fluids Of the body; in the second there is pri marily an inflammation which induces febrile reaction, the fever being a secondary disease. What change in the fluids of the body will give rise to fever? I know of but one, and that is the presence Of some material that has so far lost its vitalization that it can not be applied to the nutrition Of the textures, or serve any purpose in the animal economy. Such material may be generated within the body, or it may be introduced from without. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Medical Eclectic, Vol. 1 By Eclecticism we understand no meaningless expression, no mere negative protest, no waiving of originality, no such medley as would be likely from selecting and combining with out unity, principle, or a consistent system. From the first we have learned our lesson differently. We have been ready and desirous to perceive and apprehend the good which was in all creeds and schools, although compelled, not always without sadness and disappointment, to acknowledge that none was wholly unexceptionable. In this we have acted in the spirit of the philosophical Eclecticism of former times, which sought to eliminate fiom all systems their accretions of error and human invention, in order to exhibit the Divine Wisdom itself, which underlies and permeates all real knowledge. We believe with Plato, that the office of instruction is to bring such knowledge within the field of human consciousness; and to do this, the extraneous matter which mistaken men have added and interpolated, must be removed. The kingdom of heaven is like a net that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind; which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away. This book was released on 2018-09-24 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Inaugural Discourse on Medical Eclecticism In the first place, let us ascertain the course of conduct which has been observed by critical eclectism towards systematic medicine, under the many chameleon changes which it has, at different times, experienced. Systematic medicine has always contended for the truth of some assumed principle. The object of critical eclectism has always been to test the truth of this principle by close and impartial observation. It, therefore, conducted the abstractions of systematic medicine into the clinical Ward, and there con fronted them by disease, as it really exists, and not as floats in the excited imagination of the enthusiast. It is there that the eclectic physician has been enabled to determine. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This book was released on 2017-10-17 with total page 754 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The American Eclectic Materia Medica and Therapeutics We claim to be a free and liberal class of physicians, and we do not recognize the right of any man either inside or outside of the Eclec tic ranks to dictate what we shall use or how we Shall use it. Every practitioner is personally responsible for the results of his practice. If he does a patient a wrong by large doses and poisonous effects, he is guilty to the extent of the wrong. If he fails to give relief or save life because of small doses and ineflicient remedies, he is equally guilty. A physician is responsible to his patients in that he agrees to furnish that knowledge and skill which comes from thorough study and close Observation. He can not claim that he has done his whole duty, unless he has been eclectic in fact, choosing from all sources that which to him seems best. Book New Eclectic Medical Practice Vol 1

Download or read book New Eclectic Medical Practice Vol 1 written by Herbert Tracy Webster and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-19 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from New Eclectic Medical Practice, Vol. 1: Designed for Students and Practitioners The author is not aware that an urgent demand has existed for the publication of this book. Indeed, it was not prepared with the impression that the profession was in urgent need of it, or that it would prove a remarkable innovation in the medical world. Medical men will come and go and the world will move on, after these pages have passed into forgetfulness; and time will chroui cle a newer practice - doubtless a better one - when the years have marked the inevitable progress of events. The students of the California Medical College, to whom the author has been something of an authority on practice for the past sixteen years, have frequently importuned him to publish a work which would embody the substance of his lectures, that a text book for ready reference might be had. To satisfy this demand the present volume was begun several years ago. Other duties, however, have delayed the work, and the prospects of its completion at an early date were so poor that at the request of several mem bers of the Class of '99 a first volume has been published, the second to follow within the coming two years. Special pains have been taken in the preparation of the text to dwell on the description of disease, that there may be no need of frequent reference to allopathic works for points on etiology, pathology, symptoms, diagnosis and prognosis. At the same time, it has been the author's aim to render the book as complete as pos sible on that which has been the peculiar merit of Eclectic works on practice in the past, treatment.
