Book An Application of the Finite Element Method to Elastic plastic Problems of Plane Stress

Download or read book An Application of the Finite Element Method to Elastic plastic Problems of Plane Stress written by M. Salmon and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computer program is presented for the small strain analysis of plane structures in the strain hardening elastic-plastic range. The finite element displacement method is used to perform the linear analyses in the iterative scheme. Bar and constant strain isotropic plane stress triangles are available for use in constructing structural idealizations. The use of ten different sets of material properties, three different material laws, and incremental proportional loading are available as options. Good correlation is shown with available test data and theoretical solutions.

Book Fracture Mechanics

Download or read book Fracture Mechanics written by Chin-Teh Sun and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2011-10-04 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fracture Mechanics covers classical and modern methods and introduce new/unique techniques, making this text an important resource for anyone involved in the study or application of fracture mechanics. Using insights from leading experts in fracture mechanics, it provides new approaches and new applications to advance the understanding of crack initiation and propagation. With a concise and easily understood mathematical treatment of crack tip fields, this book provides the basis for applying fracture mechanics in solving practical problems. It features a unique coverage of bi-material interfacial cracks, with applications to commercially important areas of composite materials, layered structures, and microelectronic packaging. A full chapter is devoted to the cohesive zone model approach, which has been extensively used in recent years to simulate crack propagation. A unified discussion of fracture criteria involving nonlinear/plastic deformations is also provided. The book is an invaluable resource for mechanical, aerospace, civil, and biomedical engineers in the field of mechanics as well as for graduate students and researchers studying mechanics. Concise and easily understood mathematical treatment of crack tip fields (chapter 3) provides the basis for applying fracture mechanics in solving practical problems Unique coverage of bi-material interfacial cracks (chapter 8), with applications to commercially important areas of composite materials, layered structures, and microelectronic packaging A full chapter (chapter 9) on the cohesive zone model approach, which has been extensively used in recent years to simulate crack propagation A unified discussion of fracture criteria involving nonlinear/plastic deformations

Book Finite Element Modeling of Elastic Plastic Crack Growth

Download or read book Finite Element Modeling of Elastic Plastic Crack Growth written by F. T. C. Loo and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerical methods for the analysis of the elastic-plastic fracture problem using a special finite element technique are presented. A brief description of some concepts in elastic-plastic fracture mechanics and of the finite element method is followed by the formulation procedure of the stiffness matrix using eight-noded quadrilateral isoparametric elements. After a terse discussion of the initial stress method, the procedure of computation is extended in the analysis by using an incremental load process. The size and the shape of the plastic zone of a center crack specimen is investigated. The problem of crack growth is also studied using the moving crack tip element procedure. Results are presented in graphical form. It was found that the moving finite element technique can be modified to solve the crack branching problems.
