Book A Pipelined Multi core MIPS Machine

Download or read book A Pipelined Multi core MIPS Machine written by Mikhail Kovalev and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-24 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is based on the third author's lectures on computer architecture, given in the summer semester 2013 at Saarland University, Germany. It contains a gate level construction of a multi-core machine with pipelined MIPS processor cores and a sequentially consistent shared memory. The book contains the first correctness proofs for both the gate level implementation of a multi-core processor and also of a cache based sequentially consistent shared memory. This opens the way to the formal verification of synthesizable hardware for multi-core processors in the future. Constructions are in a gate level hardware model and thus deterministic. In contrast the reference models against which correctness is shown are nondeterministic. The development of the additional machinery for these proofs and the correctness proof of the shared memory at the gate level are the main technical contributions of this work.

Book excerpt: This book is about a requirements specification for a Holodeck at a proof of concept level. In it I introduce optical functions for a optical processor and describe how they map to a subset of the Risc-V open instruction set. I describe how parallelism could be achieved. I then describe a possible layered approach to an optical processor motherboard for the datacenter and for a personal Holodeck. I describe Volumetrics in brief and show how its evolution to Holodeck volumetrics could be done with bend light technology and the possibility of solidness to touch. I describe in detail the architecture of a Holodeck covering several approaches to Holodecks from static scene to scrolling scene to multi-user same complex to networked multi-user Holodecks.

Book System Architecture

    Book Details:
  • Author : Wolfgang J. Paul
  • Publisher : Springer
  • Release : 2016-10-04
  • ISBN : 3319430653
  • Pages : 517 pages

Download or read book System Architecture written by Wolfgang J. Paul and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pillars of the bridge on the cover of this book date from the Roman Empire and they are in daily use today, an example of conventional engineering at its best. Modern commodity operating systems are examples of current system programming at its best, with bugs discovered and fixed on a weekly or monthly basis. This book addresses the question of whether it is possible to construct computer systems that are as stable as Roman designs. The authors successively introduce and explain specifications, constructions and correctness proofs of a simple MIPS processor; a simple compiler for a C dialect; an extension of the compiler handling C with inline assembly, interrupts and devices; and the virtualization layer of a small operating system kernel. A theme of the book is presenting system architecture design as a formal discipline, and in keeping with this the authors rely on mathematics for conciseness and precision of arguments to an extent common in other engineering fields. This textbook is based on the authors' teaching and practical experience, and it is appropriate for undergraduate students of electronics engineering and computer science. All chapters are supported with exercises and examples.

Book Modern Processor Design

Download or read book Modern Processor Design written by John Paul Shen and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2013-07-30 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conceptual and precise, Modern Processor Design brings together numerous microarchitectural techniques in a clear, understandable framework that is easily accessible to both graduate and undergraduate students. Complex practices are distilled into foundational principles to reveal the authors insights and hands-on experience in the effective design of contemporary high-performance micro-processors for mobile, desktop, and server markets. Key theoretical and foundational principles are presented in a systematic way to ensure comprehension of important implementation issues. The text presents fundamental concepts and foundational techniques such as processor design, pipelined processors, memory and I/O systems, and especially superscalar organization and implementations. Two case studies and an extensive survey of actual commercial superscalar processors reveal real-world developments in processor design and performance. A thorough overview of advanced instruction flow techniques, including developments in advanced branch predictors, is incorporated. Each chapter concludes with homework problems that will institute the groundwork for emerging techniques in the field and an introduction to multiprocessor systems.

Book See MIPS Run

    Book Details:
  • Author : Dominic Sweetman
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2010-07-08
  • ISBN : 0080525237
  • Pages : 513 pages

Download or read book See MIPS Run written by Dominic Sweetman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2010-07-08 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: See MIPS Run, Second Edition, is not only a thorough update of the first edition, it is also a marriage of the best-known RISC architecture--MIPS--with the best-known open-source OS--Linux. The first part of the book begins with MIPS design principles and then describes the MIPS instruction set and programmers' resources. It uses the MIPS32 standard as a baseline (the 1st edition used the R3000) from which to compare all other versions of the architecture and assumes that MIPS64 is the main option. The second part is a significant change from the first edition. It provides concrete examples of operating system low level code, by using Linux as the example operating system. It describes how Linux is built on the foundations the MIPS hardware provides and summarizes the Linux application environment, describing the libraries, kernel device-drivers and CPU-specific code. It then digs deep into application code and library support, protection and memory management, interrupts in the Linux kernel and multiprocessor Linux. Sweetman has revised his best-selling MIPS bible for MIPS programmers, embedded systems designers, developers and programmers, who need an in-depth understanding of the MIPS architecture and specific guidance for writing software for MIPS-based systems, which are increasingly Linux-based. - Completely new material offers the best explanation available on how Linux runs on real hardware - Provides a complete, updated and easy-to-use guide to the MIPS instruction set using the MIPS32 standard as the baseline architecture with the MIPS64 as the main option - Retains the same engaging writing style that made the first edition so readable, reflecting the authors 20+ years experience in designing systems based on the MIPS architecture
