Book Petrological Stable Isotope and Geochronological Constraints on the Metamorphic Fluid Flow History of the Harts Ranges Central Australia

Download or read book Petrological Stable Isotope and Geochronological Constraints on the Metamorphic Fluid Flow History of the Harts Ranges Central Australia written by Patricia Eilish Lavery and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stable isotope analysis reveals a complex system of isotope fractionation within the skarn assemblage and mineral pair stable isotope thermometry provides temperature estimates near 500C̕. Localized metasomatism of aluminous amphibolites in the northeastern EGC produced unique epidote rich assemblages with low e¹8Owr values attributed to meteoric fluid infiltration.

Book An Introduction to the Rock forming Minerals

Download or read book An Introduction to the Rock forming Minerals written by William Alexander Deer and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this edition of Introduction to the Rock-Forming Minerals, most of the commonly occurring minerals of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks are discussed in terms of structure, chemistry, optical and other physical properties, distinguishing features and paragenesis. Important correlations between these aspects of mineralogy are emphasized wherever possible. The content of each section has been updated where needed in the light of published research over the 21 years between editions.

Book Metasomatism and the Chemical Transformation of Rock

Download or read book Metasomatism and the Chemical Transformation of Rock written by Daniel Harlov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-14 with total page 804 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid-aided mass transfer and subsequent mineral re-equilibration are the two defining features of metasomatism and must be present in order for metamorphism to occur. Coupled with igneous and tectonic processes, metasomatism has played a major role in the formation of the Earth’s continental and oceanic crust and lithospheric mantle as well as in their evolution and subsequent stabilization. Metasomatic processes can include ore mineralization, metasomatically induced alteration of oceanic lithosphere, mass transport in and alteration of subducted oceanic crust and overlying mantle wedge, which has subsequent implications regarding mass transport, fluid flow, and volatile storage in the lithospheric mantle overall, as well as both regional and localized crustal metamorphism. Metasomatic alteration of accessory minerals such as zircon or monazite can allow for the dating of metasomatic events as well as give additional information regarding the chemistry of the fluids responsible. Lastly present day movement of fluids in both the lithospheric mantle and deep to mid crust can be observed utilizing geophysical resources such as electrical resistivity and seismic data. Such observations help to further clarify the picture of actual metasomatic processes as inferred from basic petrographic, mineralogical, and geochemical data. The goal of this volume is to bring together a diverse group of geologists, each of whose specialities and long range experience regarding one or more aspects of metasomatism during geologic processes, should allow them to contribute to a series of review chapters, which outline the basis of our current understanding of how metasomatism influences and helps to control both the evolution and stability of the crust and lithospheric mantle.

Book Economic Geology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Walter L. Pohl
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 2011-03-03
  • ISBN : 144439486X
  • Pages : 725 pages

Download or read book Economic Geology written by Walter L. Pohl and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-03-03 with total page 725 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanity’s ever-increasing hunger for mineral raw materials, caused by a growing global population and ever increasing standards of living, has resulted in economic geology becoming a subject of urgent importance. This book provides a broad panorama of mineral deposits, covering their origin and geological characteristics, the principles of the search for ores and minerals, and the investigation of newly found deposits. Practical and environmental issues that arise during the life cycle of a mine and after its closure are addressed, with an emphasis on sustainable and "green" mining. The central scientific theme of the book is to place the extraordinary variability of mineral deposits in the frame of fundamental geological processes. The book is written for earth science students and practicing geologists worldwide. Professionals in administration, resource development, mining, mine reclamation, metallurgy, and mineral economics will also find the text valuable. Economic Geology is a fully revised translation of the the fifth edition of the German language text Mineralische und Energie-Rohstoffe.
