Book excerpt: This is a book of faith, love, and the real-life workings of a hands-on God. It centers on a personal story about a husband and wife who come to a spiritual crossroads and need to decide whether to trust in a strange "message" (delivered by their 6-year-old daughter) that they believe may be divine or to ignore it and, in doing so, miss some God-given blessings their family was meant to receive. The wife is ready to make the right choices, but the husband is not. His intellect tells him to overlook the message, but his heart cannot. He follows his heart but the road to which it leads is uncertain and difficult. He questions his choices and even tries to sabotage his own plan at one point. However, he fails, and the plan goes on, resulting in a happy and successful adoption of a second child. The underlying message of this story is that everything seems to be supernaturally connected and that we all have blessings that are waiting to be discovered. But to truly get them (or at least see they are there), we must have faith to make the choices that lead to them.

Book excerpt: A year of daily inspiration from the renowned spiritual leader, Mother Teresa. The provocative ideas and touching insights found in The Joy in Loving spring from incidents in Mother Teresa's own remarkable life. She speaks of men and women who have lived and died uncomplainingly, even in the midst of great poverty and deprivation; of wealthy businessmen whose indifference has been transformed into compassion and charity, and of her encounters with people and governments around the globe. Through all of this, Mother Teresa emphasizes the need for a disciplined, loving family life, for "in the home begins the disruption of the peace of the world." Drawing on more than seventy years of selfless service to the poorest of the poor, she discusses the importance of work and prayer, charity and service, the right to life and, above all, the need to love--unconditionally and absolutely.

Book Suffering and the Sovereignty of God

Download or read book Suffering and the Sovereignty of God written by John Piper and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2006-09-13 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last few years, 9/11, a tsunami, Hurricane Katrina, and many other tragedies have shown us that the vision of God in today's churches in relation to evil and suffering is often frivolous. Against the overwhelming weight and seriousness of the Bible, many Christians are choosing to become more shallow, more entertainment-oriented, and therefore irrelevant in the face of massive suffering. In Suffering and the Sovereignty of God, contributors John Piper, Joni Eareckson Tada, Steve Saint, Carl Ellis, David Powlison, Dustin Shramek, and Mark Talbot explore the many categories of God's sovereignty as evidenced in his Word. They urge readers to look to Christ, even in suffering, to find the greatest confidence, deepest comfort, and sweetest fellowship they have ever known.

Book Scorned Testimony Healed Gift

Download or read book Scorned Testimony Healed Gift written by Rebekah (Ramiyah) Jackson and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-09-10 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scorned Testimony, Healed Gift: Revelation 12:11 wants to display a gritty, translucent testimony so that its reader can be healed, delivered, and set free. In chapter 2, "The Womb," rejection was the inheritance of the womb, the seed. The very person that helped make the seed became the shadow of the seed--incubating rejection. The damage was already done in the womb, and everything that her father did didn't suffice. General Motors took her father away when she needed him the most--rejection. Spoiled she was, but that didn't shift the fact of feeding the rejection with rejected love--more rejection. Soon after he left, he found his mischief--more rejection. He was pronounced dead. The beginning of her life, turning topsy-turvy--the bitterness of rejection begins. She trusted one of her classmates. "Her uncle took RR's beauty for his ugliness." Anger, rage, murder--more rejection. She began to find rejected love in all the wrong places--self-rejection. The promiscuous lifestyle was calling her name and she answered. She knew that the rejected love shown was lust at its best, suffering--self-rejection. Entangled in the night lifestyle but loved every bit of its hell. Dropping out of high school, she was over it--more rejection. "What am I doing? Why am I here? My mother didn't raise me like this, but I want to be loved. I want to feel loved. This is not love." The love of money, sex, and drugs was the root of her fantasy. Her body, her sanity, her spiritualism, and her emotions were buried and suffocated by life's quicksand. Satan waited for the right time to target Pernicious. She was feeding the rejection and placed in the gravest positions she has ever gambled with. Scorned Testimony, Healed Gift: Rev. 12:11, the memoir of a survivor through Jesus Christ!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This scientific-historical biography explores the influences that shaped the spirituality of Amy Carmichael of Dohnavur. J. (Hans) Kommers investigates the historical background of Amy's childhood in Millisle and Belfast and provides new and more scholarly information than existing biographies. He researched a variety of Keswick-related literature in order to provide a fuller picture of Amy's connection with the Keswick Convention and their teaching. The descriptions of the life of the millworkers in Belfast, the happenings on the worldwide stage and Victorian missionary work and methods round out the picture to give the reader a greater understanding of Amy Carmichael. These new facts are most enlightening." --Dr Jackuelin Woolcock MB BChir MRCP (Lond), Director Dohnavur Fellowship Corporation, Shoreham by Sea, UK, and Doctor in Dohnavur India 1969-1987 "Triumphant Love: The Contextual, Creative and Strategic Missionary Work of Amy Beatrice Carmichael in South India provides the msot extensive biography thus far of Amy Carmichael (1867-1951), a major figure on the missionary landscape of the late 19th and the first half of the 20th century. She is seen by some as the Protestant mother Teresa (both women worked in India and devoted all of their time and energy to the poor). The book is very well researched. The author states that the purpose of the extensive research he undertook 'was to get a closer and clearer picture of Amy Carmichael as the founder off the Dohnavur Fellowship.' Also, he wanted 'to give a balanced account of her dealings with people and especially her life with God.' He does this. It provides the most comprehensive picture of this remarkable woman. It is the definitive source of reference. J. (Hans) Kommers's view of the life of Amy Carmichael is that of a fellow evangelical. He explains that not only Amy, but many missionaries of her time were inspired by the ideal that all people should have the opportunity to hear of Christ's salvation. According to him, her inspirational work is still relevant today." --Prof. Dr Gijsbert van den Brink, URC Professor for Theology and Science, Faculty of Theology, Free University Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Reyna Grande vividly brings to life her tumultuous early years in this “compelling...unvarnished, resonant” (BookPage) story of a childhood spent torn between two parents and two countries. As her parents make the dangerous trek across the Mexican border to “El Otro Lado” (The Other Side) in pursuit of the American dream, Reyna and her siblings are forced into the already overburdened household of their stern grandmother. When their mother at last returns, Reyna prepares for her own journey to “El Otro Lado” to live with the man who has haunted her imagination for years, her long-absent father. Funny, heartbreaking, and lyrical, The Distance Between Us poignantly captures the confusion and contradictions of childhood, reminding us that the joys and sorrows we experience are imprinted on the heart forever, calling out to us of those places we first called home. Also available in Spanish as La distancia entre nosotros.
