News of her bullying spread, eventually reaching two teenage girls from a neighboring town, sisters Emily and Sarah Buder. The girls were so moved by Olivia's story that they initiated a letter-writing campaign to help lift her spirits. It was a tender gesture of solidarity that set off an overwhelming chain reaction of support, encouragement, and love. In Letters to a Bullied Girl, Olivia and the Buder sisters share an inspiring selection of messages that arrived from across America—the personal, often painful remembrances of former targets, remorseful bullies, and sympathetic bystanders. Letters to a Bullied Girl examines our national bullying epidemic from a variety of angles and perspectives, and includes practical guidance from bullying expert Barbara Coloroso, author of The Bully, the Bullied, and the Bystander. Though addressed to Olivia, the letters speak to all young people who have been bullied, offer advice and hope to those who suffer, and provide a wake-up call to all who have ever been involved in bullying.

Book Cyberbullying

Download or read book Cyberbullying written by Pamela C. Smith and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to investigate administrators', teachers', and parents' perceptions and knowledge in relation to cyberbullying. Fourteen administrators, 95 teachers, and 460 parents from four south central Pennsylvania Middle Schools participated in the study. This research study was divided into four distinct areas. Section one gathered demographic information; section two explored computer use and the amount of time spent on the computer daily; section three delved into the breadth of knowledge possessed by participants regarding cyberbullying. The final section determined the perceptions and willingness of members in each group to participate in professional development opportunities, which will provide knowledge and information concerning cyberbullying and how to prevent it. This study found that administrators utilize computers, text messaging, and social networking less frequently than did the teacher and parent subject groups. A majority of participants from all three groups acknowledged that cyberbullying is increasing and that they possessed a moderate knowledge about the topic. Respondents expressed the belief that cyberbullying is more serious than face-to-face bullying due to the anonymity provided by the Internet. Participants expressed a desire to receive additional information on the topic, although no consensus was reached concerning who should provide the professional development opportunities. The results of this study indicated that additional research and education is needed by all participants in the study. Despite possessing an awareness of cyberbullying, none of the participant groups felt that they were fully equipped to handle the repercussions of cyberbullying. Additional research is needed in order to develop an effective plan for dealing with cyberbullying in both the local and global community.

Download or read book R i p Cyberbullying written by Ann Neville and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-06-04 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: R.I.P. Cyberbullying by Ann Neville For Teachers and Parents Cyberbullying is one of the major issues facing children, parents and educators today. However, there are many children who are NOT bullied, by cyber means or otherwise, despite appearing to be exactly the same type of child as those who are. What makes the difference? This is where parents/caregivers can play a significant role. This guide addresses the following questions: What is cyberbullying? Types of cyberbullying Why do some people cyberbully? How does cyberbullying affect children? What can parents do to PREVENT cyberbullying? What can parents do if the child is already being cyberbullied? What if it's your child who is the cyberbully? What role do bystanders/witnesses play? When should education about cyberbullying begin? Review by BELINDA MELLOR Batjack is well-written - and amusing, easy read with fun characters and an engaging plot. The important message and the implementation of the anti-bullying tools are in no way heavy-handed and add to, rather than detract from, the story. This is not just a book for children who are being bullied, or whose friends are being targeted but for all children who enjoy a good story. The non-fiction volumes: How to Stop Being Bullied - A Kids' Guide, How to BullyProof Your Child - A Parents' Guide and R.I.P. Cyberbullying include looking at what bullying is, how and why it happens, what victims can do to help themselves and what others can do, also how to help the bullies. There is a lot of common sense and good advice, some of which is from young people so should speak directly to victims and potential victims. Like the novel, these books are straightforward, easy to use and understand, and very readable. Each book is useful alone. Together they form an excellent resource - a highly recommended addition to both home and institution libraries.
