Book Cavitation in Non Newtonian Fluids

Download or read book Cavitation in Non Newtonian Fluids written by Emil Brujan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-28 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-Newtonian properties on bubble dynamics and cavitation are fundamentally different from those of Newtonian fluids. The most significant effect arises from the dramatic increase in viscosity of polymer solutions in an extensional flow, such as that generated about a spherical bubble during its growth or collapse phase. In addition, many biological fluids, such as blood, synovial fluid, and saliva, have non-Newtonian properties and can display significant viscoelastic behaviour. This monograph elucidates general aspects of bubble dynamics and cavitation in non-Newtonian fluids and applies them to the fields of biomedicine and bioengineering. In addition it presents many examples from the process industries. The field is strongly interdisciplinary and the numerous disciplines involve have and will continue to overlook and reinvent each others’ work. This book helps researchers to think intuitively about the diverse physics of these systems, to attempt to bridge the various communities involved, and to convey the interest, elegance, and variety of physical phenomena that manifest themselves on the micrometer and microsecond scales.

Book Bubble Dynamics in a Compressible Viscous Liquid

Download or read book Bubble Dynamics in a Compressible Viscous Liquid written by Wenke Liu and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microbubble dynamics are associated with cavitation damage to pumps, turbines and propellers, as well as applications in biomedical ultrasonics, sonochemistry and cavitation cleaning. The compressible effects of liquid are essential, which are associated with acoustic radiation at the inception of a bubble and the end of collapse. Viscous effects are important for microbubbles. This thesis is concerned with microbubble dynamics in a viscous compressible liquid near a rigid boundary. The compressible effects are modelled by using the weakly compressible theory. The viscous effects are approximated using the viscous potential flow theory, because the flow field is characterised as being an irrotational flow in the bulk volume but with a thin viscous boundary layer at the bubble surface. Consequently, the phenomenon is modelled by using the boundary integral method. The numerical results are shown in good agreement with the Keller-Miksis equation, experiments and computations based on the Navier-Stokes equations. Numerical studies were carried out for microbubble dynamics near a rigid boundary as well as subject to an acoustic wave. The bubble oscillation, topological transform, jet development and penetration through the bubble and the energy of the bubble system are simulated and analysed regarding the compressible and viscous effects.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Multiphase Flow Handbook, Second Edition is a thoroughly updated and reorganized revision of the late Clayton Crowe’s work, and provides a detailed look at the basic concepts and the wide range of applications in this important area of thermal/fluids engineering. Revised by the new editors, Efstathios E. (Stathis) Michaelides and John D. Schwarzkopf, the new Second Edition begins with two chapters covering fundamental concepts and methods that pertain to all the types and applications of multiphase flow. The remaining chapters cover the applications and engineering systems that are relevant to all the types of multiphase flow and heat transfer. The twenty-one chapters and several sections of the book include the basic science as well as the contemporary engineering and technological applications of multiphase flow in a comprehensive way that is easy to follow and be understood. The editors created a common set of nomenclature that is used throughout the book, allowing readers to easily compare fundamental theory with currently developing concepts and applications. With contributed chapters from sixty-two leading experts around the world, the Multiphase Flow Handbook, Second Edition is an essential reference for all researchers, academics and engineers working with complex thermal and fluid systems.

Download or read book Fundamentals of Cavitation written by Jean-Pierre Franc and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-01-22 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book treats cavitation, which is a unique phenomenon in the field of hyd- dynamics, although it can occur in any hydraulic machinery such as pumps, propellers, artificial hearts, and so forth. Cavitation is generated not only in water, but also in any kind of fluid, such as liquid hydrogen. The generation of cavitation can cause severe damage in hydraulic machinery. Therefore, the prevention of cavitation is an important concern for designers of hydraulic machinery. On the contrary, there is great potential to utilize cavitation in various important applications, such as environmental protection. There have been several books published on cavitation, including one by the same authors. This book differs from those previous ones, in that it is both more physical and more theoretical. Any theoretical explanation of the cavitation phenomenon is rather difficult, but the authors have succeeded in explaining it very well, and a reader can follow the equations easily. It is an advantage in reading this book to have some understanding of the physics of cavitation. Therefore, this book is not an introductory text, but a book for more advanced study. However, this does not mean that this book is too difficult for a beginner, because it explains the cavitation phenomenon using many figures. Therefore, even a beginner on cavitation can read and can understand what cavitation is. If the student studies through this book (with patience), he or she can become an expert on the physics of cavitation.
