Book A Numerical Study of 3D Turbulent Flow and Heat Transfer of Confined Slot Jets in a Crossflow

Download or read book A Numerical Study of 3D Turbulent Flow and Heat Transfer of Confined Slot Jets in a Crossflow written by Kamal R. Ragel and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The flow field results were found to be in qualitative agreement with most of the past related experimental work. In case I, the average Nusselt numbers were compared with those obtained from Martin's (3) correlation. A good agreement was found in the range of validity of this correlation (low crossflow)." --

Book A Numerical Study of Confined Turbulent Jets

Download or read book A Numerical Study of Confined Turbulent Jets written by J. Zhu and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A numerical investigation is reported of turbulent incompressible jets confined in two ducts, one cylindrical and the other conical with a 5 degree divergence. In each case, three Craya-Curtet numbers are considered which correspond, respectively, to flow situations with no moderate and strong recirculation. Turbulence closure is achieved by using the k-epsilon model and a recently proposed realizable Reynolds stress algebraic equation model that relates the Reynolds stresses explicitly to the quadratic terms of the mean velocity gradients and ensures the positiveness of each component of the turbulent kinetic energy. Calculations are carried out with a finite-volume procedure using boundary-fitted curvilinear coordinates. A second-order accurate, bounded convection scheme and sufficiently fine grids are used to prevent the solutions from being contaminated by numerical diffusion. The calculated results are compared extensively with the available experimental data. It is shown that the numerical methods presented are capable of capturing the essential flow features observed in the experiments and that the realizable Reynolds stress algebraic equation model performs much better than the k-epsilon model for this class of flows of great practical importance.

Book Impingement Jet Cooling in Gas Turbines

Download or read book Impingement Jet Cooling in Gas Turbines written by R.S. Amano and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2014-05-28 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the requirement for enhanced cooling technologies on modern gas turbine engines, advanced research and development has had to take place in field of thermal engineering. Among the gas turbine cooling technologies, impingement jet cooling is one of the most effective in terms of cooling effectiveness, manufacturability and cost. The chapters contained in this book describe research on state-of-the-art and advanced cooling technologies that have been developed, or that are being researched, with a variety of approaches from theoretical, experimental, and CFD studies. The authors of the chapters have been selected from some of the most active researchers and scientists on the subject. This is the first to book published on the topics of gas turbines and heat transfer to focus on impingement cooling alone.
