Book Operational Simulation of a Reservoir System with Pumped Storage

Download or read book Operational Simulation of a Reservoir System with Pumped Storage written by George F. McMahon and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Richard B. Russell Dam and Lake Project is presently under construction and is being placed in tandem between Hartwell and Clark Hill, two existing multipurpose hydropower plants on the Savannah River. System operational simulations were performed in support of a feasibility study for the installation of pump turbines at Russell, using a version of the Corps of Engineers HEC-5C computer program modified for system power and pumped storage. Information developed from the simulations include system hydropower production, pumping energy requirements, daily reservoir pool fluctuations, and reservoir elevation statistics. This information was useful in judging the effects of the addition of pumped storage on system hydropower production and reservoir recreation useability, as well as in ascertaining efficient system operational methods. Book Fundamentals of Numerical Reservoir Simulation

Download or read book Fundamentals of Numerical Reservoir Simulation written by D.W. Peaceman and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-04-01 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of numerical reservoir simulation with high-speed electronic computers has gained wide acceptance throughout the petroleum industry for making engineering studies of a wide variety of oil and gas reservoirs throughout the world. These reservoir simulators have been designed for use by reservoir engineers who possess little or no background in the numerical mathematics upon which they are based. In spite of the efforts to improve numerical methods to make reservoir simulators as reliable, efficient, and automatic as possible, the user of a simulator is faced with a myriad of decisions that have nothing to do with the problem to be solved. This book combines a review of some basic reservoir mechanics with the derivation of the differential equations that reservoir simulators are designed to solve.

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and dis seminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the ac tivity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by an international publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 23 (thesis year 1978) a total of 10,148 theses titles from 27 Canadian and 220 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for theses titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 23 reports these submitted in 1978, on occasion, certain universities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Entrainment Descriptions for Mathematical Modeling of Pumped storage Inflows in Reservoirs

Download or read book Entrainment Descriptions for Mathematical Modeling of Pumped storage Inflows in Reservoirs written by Philip J. W. Roberts and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During hydropower generation and pumpback operations of pumped-storage projects, inflows are introduced into the reservoir system. These jetlike inflows often cause considerable entrainment of ambient water. The entrainment process can have a strong influence on the verical distribution of reservoir water quality when pumped-storage inflow jets are discharged into a stratified reservoir. The objective of this study was to develop algorithms to describe the pumped-storage inflow entrainment process for use in reservoir water quality models. Pumped-storage inflow jets fall into two classes: strongly or weakly buoyant. The former class has been fairly extensively studied, and well-established mathematical models exist to predict their behavior. For this case, incorporation into a reservoir thermal model simply required adaptation of existing code. For the latter case, however, that of weakly buoyant jets, it was found that little information existed of either a theoretical or experimental nature. For that reason, an extensive series of experiments of a fundamental nature were performed on weakly buoyant jets into arbitrary stratification. The results were then reduced to a form suitable for inclusion into reservoir water quality simulation models. The developed algorithms were incorporated into an existing reservoir thermal simulation code, and a test application was made for Carters Lake, a Corps of Engineers pumped-storage project in Georgia. Keywords: Entrainment; Inflow jets; Mathematical models; Pumped-storage reservoirs.

Book Numerical Simulation and Analysis of a Heat Pump System Combined with Thermal Storage Tank for DHW Supply Controlled Through a Demand Side Management Strategy

Download or read book Numerical Simulation and Analysis of a Heat Pump System Combined with Thermal Storage Tank for DHW Supply Controlled Through a Demand Side Management Strategy written by Rubén Sánchez Muñoz and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As general conception, this project is aimed to develop a software simulation model based on TRNSYS simulation platform which should help in the analysis and implementation of domestic Demand Side Management (DSM) strategies, based on load shifting techniques, as management tool for residual load and surplus of energy associated to renewable not dispatchable power sources like wind power or photovoltaics. The reference framework of the study, which sets real boundaries and limitations of the present work, is to develop and analyze a novel domestic descentralized energy storage system formed by a heat pump system combined with thermal storage tank that applies a DSM strategy of load shifting between valley and peak periods. The DSM control strategy implemented by the system is what, in fact, makes novel this usual configuration. The work analyzes the simulated behaviour of a DHW supply system for a single-family house located in Berlin, considering its weather conditions and its particular energy demand. Six different days (corresponding to the colder season of the year) and two basic systems configurations (according to normal commercial solutions) have been introduced in the model. After the simulation process the obtained results have been in depth analyzed in order to obtain a better understanding of the system and its potential. Additionally new study paths that could be later explored have been proposed. The choice of the scenario has not been a random decision and obeys to a special motivation; according to German government's energy and climate policy, during next decades renewable power source, in general, and renewable electricity, in particular, will increase dramatically it contribution share to final german electricity feed-in. The expected development of higher proportion of electricity generated from uncontrollable sources will require facing some still not solved challenges to assure correct grid integration of these sources. Smart grids development and residual load and surplus of energy management tools will play a fundamental role in the final success of such an imposing challenge.
