Book Calculation of Nonlinear Conical Flows by the Method of Lines

Download or read book Calculation of Nonlinear Conical Flows by the Method of Lines written by E. B. Klunker and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A computational technique, called the method of lines, is developed for computing the flow field about conical configurations at incidence in a supersonic flow. The method, which makes use of the self-similarity property, is developed for the nonlinear flow equations. The method has proved to be an efficient and versatile procedure for constructing the numerical solutions to conical flow problems. It has been successful in computing the flow about circular and elliptic cones at conditions where small regions of supersonic cross flow develop and for the conical delta wings where the region of supersonic cross flow is extensive. The calculations made for circular and elliptic cones as well as for the compression side of various conical delta wings are in good agreement with experiment except in regions where viscous effects become important.

Book Difference Methods for Initial Boundary Value Problems and Flow Around Bodies

Download or read book Difference Methods for Initial Boundary Value Problems and Flow Around Bodies written by You-lan Zhu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the appearance of computers, numerical methods for discontinuous solutions of quasi-linear hyperbolic systems of partial differential equations have been among the most important research subjects in numerical analysis. The authors have developed a new difference method (named the singularity-separating method) for quasi-linear hyperbolic systems of partial differential equations. Its most important feature is that it possesses a high accuracy even for problems with singularities such as schocks, contact discontinuities, rarefaction waves and detonations. Besides the thorough description of the method itself, its mathematical foundation (stability-convergence theory of difference schemes for initial-boundary-value hyperbolic problems) and its application to supersonic flow around bodies are discussed. Further, the method of lines and its application to blunt body problems and conical flow problems are described in detail. This book should soon be an important working basis for both graduate students and researchers in the field of partial differential equations as well as in mathematical physics.

Book An Experimental Investigation of the Flow Field Around a Yawed Cone

Download or read book An Experimental Investigation of the Flow Field Around a Yawed Cone written by Robert H. Feldhuhn and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental investigation of the flow field associated with a highly yawed cone was conducted at a Mach number of 5 and a free-stream Reynolds number per foot of 4,400,000. Surface static pressure measurements, flow-field surveys and schlieren photographs were obtained on a sharp five-degree semi-vertex angle cone at an angle of attack of 24 degrees. The results of the measurements indicate that the flow field on the leeward side of a highly yawed cone is very similar to that of a circular cylinder in supersonic cross flow. The essential difference between these two flow fields is the presence of a disturbance from the tip of the cone which separates the gas which has passed through the shock wave on the windward side from the flow which has passed through the weaker portion of the shock wave on the leeward side of the cone. Book Analysis of the Three dimensional Compressible Turbulent Boundary Layer on a Sharp Cone at Incidence in Supersonic and Hypersonic Flow

Download or read book Analysis of the Three dimensional Compressible Turbulent Boundary Layer on a Sharp Cone at Incidence in Supersonic and Hypersonic Flow written by John C. Adams and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analytical approach toward numerical calculation of the three-dimensional turbulent boundary layer on a sharp cone at incidence under supersonic and hypersonic flow conditions is presented. The theoretical model is based on implicit finite-difference integration of the governing three-dimensional turbulent boundary-layer equations in conjunction with a three-dimensional scalar eddy-viscosity model of turbulence. Comparison is made of present theory with detailed experimental measurements of the three-dimensional turbulent boundary-layer structure (velocity and temperature profiles), the surface streamline direction (obtained via an oil-flow technique) and surface heat-transfer rate.

Book Three dimensional Laminar Boundary layer Analysis of Upwash Patterns and Entrained Vortex Formation on Sharp Cones at Angle of Attack

Download or read book Three dimensional Laminar Boundary layer Analysis of Upwash Patterns and Entrained Vortex Formation on Sharp Cones at Angle of Attack written by John C. Adams (Jr.) and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Application of three-dimensional inviscid and viscous (laminar boundary layer) analyses for cold wall hypersonic flows over sharp cones at incidence is presented relative to experimental data, showing surface upwash angles and entrained vortex formation leading to crossflow-induced boundary-layer transition. Three-dimensional neutral inviscid stability theory for stationary disturbances is used to calculate the angular orientation of the entrained vortices in the boundary layer while a maximum crossflow Reynolds number concept is applied for correlation of the onset to vortex formation due to crossflow instability.

Book Numerical Methods for Predicting Subsonic Transonic and Supersonic Flow

Download or read book Numerical Methods for Predicting Subsonic Transonic and Supersonic Flow written by Thomas Darwin Taylor and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The methods available for numerical computation of subsonic, transonic and supersonic flows are discussed and comments are included on the characteristics of the popular methods. Both inviscid and viscous computation methods are addressed. A brief account of the basic approaches for developing methods initiates the discussion. Also included is a general summary of the state of the art of computational methods along with suggested approaches for solving problems in each area. The report is included with recommendations for future study and development. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first Symposium Transsonicum took pl.ace in Aachen thirteen years ago during a period of decreasing governmental. and industrial. support for transonic flow research. Since then, there has been a strong revival. in interest in transonic flow research so that the number of partici pants at the second symposium remained about the same as at the first even in spite of tight financial. means and Limited governmental. support. During both meetings the number of participants reached the upper Limit of the number desirabl.e for such a symposium. Participants came from aU over the worl.d and there was a weU bal.anced distribution of participants from aU countries interested in transonic flow research. The discussions - mostLy conducted in EngLish - were stimul.ating and there was a great deal. of interest in the l.ectures as was shown by the good attendance even during the l.ast session on Saturday morning.
