Book State estimation of Partially observed Markov Chains

Download or read book State estimation of Partially observed Markov Chains written by Loren Kerry Platzman and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A partially-observed Markov chain (s, Y) consists of an N-state Markov chain S, along with a process Y of noisy observations of the transitions of S.A metric on stochastic N-vectors and a generalized ergodic coefficient on the transition probability matrices of (S, Y) are defined, resulting in a notion (similar to weak ergodicity) of deteriorating dependence on initial value in a process of distributions of the state (of S) conditioned on past observations. If (S, Y) is stationary, then S may be decomposed into M

Book Analysis of Multivariate Survival Data

Download or read book Analysis of Multivariate Survival Data written by Philip Hougaard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Survival data or more general time-to-event data occur in many areas, including medicine, biology, engineering, economics, and demography, but previously standard methods have requested that all time variables are univariate and independent. This book extends the field by allowing for multivariate times. As the field is rather new, the concepts and the possible types of data are described in detail. Four different approaches to the analysis of such data are presented from an applied point of view.

Book Actuarial Models for Disability Insurance

Download or read book Actuarial Models for Disability Insurance written by S Haberman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-13 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disability insurance, long-term care insurance, and critical illness cover are becoming increasingly important in developed countries as the problems of demographic aging come to the fore. The private sector insurance industry is providing solutions to problems resulting from these pressures and other demands of better educated and more prosperous

Book Semi Markov Risk Models for Finance Insurance and Reliability

Download or read book Semi Markov Risk Models for Finance Insurance and Reliability written by Jacques Janssen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-15 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everyone working in related fields from applied mathematicians to statisticians to actuaries and operations researchers will find this a brilliantly useful practical text. The book presents applications of semi-Markov processes in finance, insurance and reliability, using real-life problems as examples. After a presentation of the main probabilistic tools necessary for understanding of the book, the authors show how to apply semi-Markov processes in finance, starting from the axiomatic definition and continuing eventually to the most advanced financial tools.

Book Foundations of Quantization for Probability Distributions

Download or read book Foundations of Quantization for Probability Distributions written by Siegfried Graf and published by Springer. This book was released on 2007-05-06 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Due to the rapidly increasing need for methods of data compression, quantization has become a flourishing field in signal and image processing and information theory. The same techniques are also used in statistics (cluster analysis), pattern recognition, and operations research (optimal location of service centers). The book gives the first mathematically rigorous account of the fundamental theory underlying these applications. The emphasis is on the asymptotics of quantization errors for absolutely continuous and special classes of singular probabilities (surface measures, self-similar measures) presenting some new results for the first time. Written for researchers and graduate students in probability theory the monograph is of potential interest to all people working in the disciplines mentioned above.

Book Agricultural Productivity and Producer Behavior

Download or read book Agricultural Productivity and Producer Behavior written by Wolfram Schlenker and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2019-11-13 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agricultural yields have increased steadily in the last half century, particularly since the Green Revolution. At the same time, inflation-adjusted agricultural commodity prices have been trending downward as increases in supply outpace the growth of demand. Recent severe weather events, biofuel mandates, and a switch toward a more meat-heavy diet in emerging economies have nevertheless boosted commodity prices. Whether this is a temporary jump or the beginning of a longer-term trend is an open question. Agricultural Productivity and Producer Behavior examines the factors contributing to the remarkably steady increase in global yields and assesses whether yield growth can continue. This research also considers whether agricultural productivity growth has been, and will be, associated with significant environmental externalities. Among the topics studied are genetically modified crops; changing climatic factors; farm production responses to government regulations including crop insurance, transport subsidies, and electricity subsidies for groundwater extraction; and the role of specific farm practices such as crop diversification, disease management, and water-saving methods. This research provides new evidence that technological as well as policy choices influence agricultural productivity.
