Book A Nonlinear Analysis of Angle Demodulation

Download or read book A Nonlinear Analysis of Angle Demodulation written by Francis Shosaku Nakamoto and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The angle-demodulation problem is investigated from the viewpoint of nonlinear filtering theory. The mean square error criterion and state-variable representation of Kushner's classical nonlinear approach are adopted. The relationship between the optimum nonlinear filter and certain decoupled implementations is shown. The decoupled implementations are subsequently analyzed and nonlinear effects such as thresholding, cycle skipping, and phase locking are investigated by Fokker-Planck methods. The mean square estimation error is obtained exactly for the first-order signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) and demodulator gains. Linear methods of analysis are shown to lead to erroneous results even when the SNR is large. Since solutions to the Fokker-Planck equation for angle-modulation problems are usually difficult to obtain, an orthogonal projection technique is presented for obtaining approximate solutions. The approximate solutions are shown to compare favorably with simulations above and below threshold for the frequency demodulation of a message with a first-order spectrum. (Author).

Book Demodulation of Angle modulated Telemetry Signals Volume I Advanced Demodulation Techniques

Download or read book Demodulation of Angle modulated Telemetry Signals Volume I Advanced Demodulation Techniques written by D. C. Luby and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A great deal of study has been given to the demodulation of FM and PM modulated signals. This report is the first of a two-volume series which reviews and contributes to the body of information on this subject. In this volume, three new techniques are discussed which are useful for the demodulation of angle-modulated signals. The three techniques analyzed are: (1) nonlinear post-detection filtering, (2) subharmonic phase-locked loop, and (3) feedforward deviation compression demodulator. The performance of these techniques is analyzed both with respect to noise effects and distortion. Emphasis is given to telemetry signal processing. Several computer (digital) programs were generated to carry out these investigations and nonlinear post-detection filters were simulated on an analog computer. In addition to the three new techniques studied in this report, several other topics are treated. One important topic is a precise analysis of the distortion in phase-locked loops. The second is a review of the effects of predetection recording on telemetry signals. (Author).

Book Phase Locked and Frequency Feedback Systems

Download or read book Phase Locked and Frequency Feedback Systems written by Jacob Klapper and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phase-Locked and Frequency-Feedback Systems: Principles and Techniques presents the operating principles and methods of design of phase-locked and frequency-feedback systems. This book is divided into 10 chapters that provide step-by-step design procedures and graphical aids, with illustrations bearing on real problems experienced in these systems. This work specifically tackles the application of these systems as FM demodulators with lowered thresholds. Chapters 1 and 2 deal briefly with the elements of linear systems, feedback theory, and noise, providing the minimum background for the material presented in the remainder of the text. Chapter 3 describes the characteristics of the major components that comprise the loops and the performance of the conventional and multi-loop FM demodulators. Chapters 4 to 7 present the basic describing equations and design for the FM feedback (FMFB) and phase-locked loop (PLL). These chapters further illustrate step-by-step design procedures with performance characteristics for low-threshold angle demodulation using typical design examples. Chapter 8 highlights the design principles, which are extended to the design of advanced demodulators featuring demodulation thresholds lower than those of the simple PLL or FMFB. Chapter 9 focuses on digital FM demodulation and PLL applications other than FM demodulation. Lastly, Chapter 10 presents the methods of testing and evaluating loop performance. Undergraduate and graduate level students, as well as practicing engineers, will find this book invaluable.
