Book A New Monte Carlo Method for Solving Neutron and Gamma Ray Transport Problems

Download or read book A New Monte Carlo Method for Solving Neutron and Gamma Ray Transport Problems written by Frank J. Allen and published by . This book was released on 1958 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A method is developed and compared in efficiency with the standard Monte Carlo method. An idealized transport equation for which there exists a simple analytic solution is used to effect the comparison. It is shown that the proposed method is much more efficient than the standard Monte Carlo method. (No biased sampling techniques are used.).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mathematical technique of Monte Carlo, as applied to the transport of sub-atomic particles, has been described in numerous reports and books since its formal development in the 1940s. Most of these instructional efforts have been directed either at the mathematical basis of the technique or at its practical application as embodied in the several large, formal computer codes available for performing Monte Carlo transport calculations. This book attempts to fill what appears to be a gap in this Monte Carlo literature between the mathematics and the software. Thus, while the mathematical basis for Monte Carlo transport is covered in some detail, emphasis is placed on the application of the technique to the solution of practical radiation transport problems. This is done by using the PC as the basic teaching tool. This book assumes the reader has a knowledge of integral calculus, neutron transport theory, and Fortran programming. It also assumes the reader has available a PC with a Fortran compiler. Any PC of reasonable size should be adequate to reproduce the examples or solve the exercises contained herein. The authors believe it is important for the reader to execute these examples and exercises, and by doing so to become accomplished at preparing appropriate software for solving radiation transport problems using Monte Carlo. The step from the software described in this book to the use of production Monte Carlo codes should be straightforward.

Book Monte Carlo Principles and Neutron Transport Problems

Download or read book Monte Carlo Principles and Neutron Transport Problems written by Jerome Spanier and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-part treatment introduces the general principles of the Monte Carlo method within a unified mathematical point of view, applying them to problems in neutron transport. It describes several efficiency-enhancing approaches, including the method of superposition and simulation of the adjoint equation based on reciprocity. The first half of the book presents an exposition of the fundamentals of Monte Carlo methods, examining discrete and continuous random walk processes and standard variance reduction techniques. The second half of the text focuses directly on the methods of superposition and reciprocity, illustrating their applications to specific neutron transport problems. Topics include the computation of thermal neutron fluxes and the superposition principle in resonance escape computations.

Book Monte Carlo Particle Transport Methods

Download or read book Monte Carlo Particle Transport Methods written by I. Lux and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With this book we try to reach several more-or-less unattainable goals namely: To compromise in a single book all the most important achievements of Monte Carlo calculations for solving neutron and photon transport problems. To present a book which discusses the same topics in the three levels known from the literature and gives us useful information for both beginners and experienced readers. It lists both well-established old techniques and also newest findings.

Book The MORSE Code

Download or read book The MORSE Code written by and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The MORSE code is a multipurpose neutron and gamma-ray transport Monte Carlo code. Through the use of multigroup cross sections, the solution of neutron, gamma-ray, or coupled neutron-gamma-ray problems may be obtained in either the forward or adjoint mode. Time dependence for both shielding and criticality problems is provided. General three-dimensional geometry, as well as specialized one-dimensional geometry descriptions, may be used with an albedo option available at any material surface. A detailed discussion of the relationship between forward and adjoint flux and collision densities, as well as a detailed description of the treatment of the angle of scattering, is given in the appendices. Logical flow charts for each subroutine add to the understanding of the code.

Book A Deterministic Monte Carlo Hybrid Method for Time Dependent Neutron Transport Problems

Download or read book A Deterministic Monte Carlo Hybrid Method for Time Dependent Neutron Transport Problems written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A new deterministic-Monte Carlo hybrid solution technique is derived for the time-dependent transport equation. This new approach is based on dividing the time domain into a number of coarse intervals and expanding the transport solution in a series of polynomials within each interval. The solutions within each interval can be represented in terms of arbitrary source terms by using precomputed response functions. In the current work, the time-dependent response function computations are performed using the Monte Carlo method, while the global time-step march is performed deterministically. This work extends previous work by coupling the time-dependent expansions to space- and angle-dependent expansions to fully characterize the 1D transport response/solution. More generally, this approach represents and incremental extension of the steady-state coarse-mesh transport method that is based on global-local decompositions of large neutron transport problems. An example of a homogeneous slab is discussed as an example of the new developments.

Book Monte Carlo Studies of Gamma ray and Neutron Transport in Infinite Homogeneous Media

Download or read book Monte Carlo Studies of Gamma ray and Neutron Transport in Infinite Homogeneous Media written by Theodore E. Fessler and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two point-source, infinite-medium Monte Carlo codes were written for the IBM 704 computer. The codes simulate respectively gamma-ray and neutron transport from a monoenergetic source. A detailed description, including importance sampling methods, is given. Results showed good agreement with moments-method calculations for the same geometry. Calculations for 6-Mev gamma rays in tin provide data on the contribution of annihilation radiation to both the buildup factors and energy spectra. Calculations for 1-Mev gamma rays in water are also presented. The results of calculations for 6-Mev source neutrons in water show a peak in the energy spectrum which is found to be due to single scattering of source particles from oxygen. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Volume 1, A Monte Carlo Primer - A Practical Approach to Radiation Transport (the "Primer"), we attempt to provide a simple, convenient, and step-by-step approach to the development, basic understanding, and use of Monte Carlo methods in radiation transport. Using the PC, the Primer begins by developing basic Monte Carlo codes to solve simple transport problems, then introduces a teaching tool, the Probabilistic Framework Code (PFC), as a standard platform for assembling, testing, and executing the various Monte Carlo techniques that are presented. This second volume attempts to continue this approach by using both custom Monte Carlo codes and PFC to apply the concepts explained in the Primer to obtain solutions to the exercises given at the end of each chapter in the Primer. A relatively modest number of exercises is included in the Primer. Some ambiguity is left in the statement of many of the exercises because the intent is not to have the user write a particular, uniquely correct piece of coding that produces a specific number as a result, but rather to encourage the user to think about the problems and develop further the concepts explained in the text. Because in most cases there is more than one way to solve a Monte Carlo transport problem, we believe that working with the concepts illustrated by the exercises is more important than obtaining anyone particular solution.
