Book Application of Ultrasonic Fatigue Testing Techniques to the Evaluation of the Corrosion Fatigue Strength of Materials

Download or read book Application of Ultrasonic Fatigue Testing Techniques to the Evaluation of the Corrosion Fatigue Strength of Materials written by LD. Roth and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A corrosion fatigue testing system has been developed for examining the corrosion-fatigue strength of engineering materials in the very high cycle regime (109 to 1010 cycles) typical of many design lifetimes. Central to this resonant fatigue testing system is a high efficiency, large displacement, piezoelectric transducer which operates at a frequency of 20 kHz, thus enabling the accumulation of large numbers of cycles in a reasonable amount of time. A description of apparatus, environmental controls, and testing method is presented. Experimental 20 kHz and low frequency corrosion fatigue results for a number of engineering materials, including a 12% chromium stainless steel, show similar reductions in fatigue limit at a specified number of cycles, despite the difference in frequency. This result holds for a variety of aqueous environments with and without electrochemical controls imposed during testing. The data illustrate the capabilities of the ultrasonic corrosion-fatigue technique and are analyzed to assess its advantages and limitations.

Book Fatigue Testing and Analysis

Download or read book Fatigue Testing and Analysis written by Yung-Li Lee and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-04-18 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue Testing and Analysis: Theory and Practice presents the latest, proven techniques for fatigue data acquisition, data analysis, and test planning and practice. More specifically, it covers the most comprehensive methods to capture the component load, to characterize the scatter of product fatigue resistance and loading, to perform the fatigue damage assessment of a product, and to develop an accelerated life test plan for reliability target demonstration. This book is most useful for test and design engineers in the ground vehicle industry. Fatigue Testing and Analysis introduces the methods to account for variability of loads and statistical fatigue properties that are useful for further probabilistic fatigue analysis. The text incorporates and demonstrates approaches that account for randomness of loading and materials, and covers the applications and demonstrations of both linear and double-linear damage rules. The reader will benefit from summaries of load transducer designs and data acquisition techniques, applications of both linear and non-linear damage rules and methods, and techniques to determine the statistical fatigue properties for the nominal stress-life and the local strain-life methods. - Covers the useful techniques for component load measurement and data acquisition, fatigue properties determination, fatigue analysis, and accelerated life test criteria development, and, most importantly, test plans for reliability demonstrations - Written from a practical point of view, based on the authors' industrial and academic experience in automotive engineering design - Extensive practical examples are used to illustrate the main concepts in all chapters

Book Fatigue Testing and Analysis of Results

Download or read book Fatigue Testing and Analysis of Results written by Waloddi Weibull and published by Pergamon. This book was released on 1961 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue Testing and Analysis of Results discusses fundamental concepts of fatigue testing and results analysis. The book begins with a description of the symbols and nomenclature selected for the present book, mainly those proposed by the ASTM Committee E-9 on Fatigue. Fatigue testing methods are then discussed including routine tests, short-life and long-life tests, cumulative-damage tests, and abbreviated and accelerated tests. Separate chapters cover fatigue testing machines and equipment; instruments and measuring devices; and test pieces used in fatigue testing. The factors affecting tes.

Book Ultrasonic and Advanced Methods for Nondestructive Testing and Material Characterization

Download or read book Ultrasonic and Advanced Methods for Nondestructive Testing and Material Characterization written by Chi-hau Chen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2007 with total page 682 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrasonic methods have been very popular in nondestructive testing and characterization of materials. This book deals with both industrial ultrasound and medical ultrasound. The advantages of ultrasound include flexibility, low cost, in-line operation, and providing data in both signal and image formats for further analysis. The book devotes 11 chapters to ultrasonic methods. However, ultrasonic methods can be much less effective with some applications. So the book also has 14 chapters catering to other or advanced methods for nondestructive testing or material characterization. Topics like structural health monitoring, Terahertz methods, X-ray and thermography methods are presented. Besides different sensors for nondestructive testing, the book places much emphasis on signal/image processing and pattern recognition of the signals acquired.
