Book New Directions in Educational Psychology

Download or read book New Directions in Educational Psychology written by Nigel Hastings and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-18 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1987. Teachers throughout the Western world identify motivating pupils and coping with classroom disruption as being among their main concerns. The close links between these two crucial aspects of classroom life are only now beginning to be fully understood. This book provides a selection of papers, nearly all of which have been specially commissioned for this volume, on these two closely related topics. Whilst many factors, both inside and outside of the school, contribute to pupils' behaviour and motivation in the classroom, the articles included in this collection are concerned exclusively with in-school factors over which classroom teachers and schools have potentially the greatest influence. In this way the volume presents, in a form accessible to teachers on initial or in-service training courses, some of the most useful and interesting recent developments in educational psychology for today's classroom.

Book Solid Freeform Fabrication A New Direction in Manufacturing

Download or read book Solid Freeform Fabrication A New Direction in Manufacturing written by J.J. Beaman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solid Freeform Fabrication is a set of manufacturing processes that are capable of producing complex freeform solid objects directly from a computer model of an object without part-specific tooling or knowledge. In essence, these methods are miniature manufacturing plants which come complete with material handling, information processing and materials processing. As such, these methods require technical knowledge from many disciplines; therefore, researchers, engineers, and students in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, and Manufacturing Engineering and Materials and Computer Science will all find some interest in this subject. Particular subareas of concern include manufacturing methods, polymer chemistry, computational geometry, control, heat transfer, metallurgy, ceramics, optics, and fluid mechanics. History of technology specialists may also find Chapter 1 of interest. Although this book covers the spectrum of different processes, the emphasis is clearly on the area in which the authors have the most experience, thermal laser processing. In particular, the authors have all been developers and inventors of techniques for the Selective Laser Sintering process and laser gas phase techniques (Selective Area Laser Deposition). This is a research book on the subject of Solid Freeform Fabrication.

Book Recent Developments and New Direction in Soft Computing Foundations and Applications

Download or read book Recent Developments and New Direction in Soft Computing Foundations and Applications written by Lotfi A. Zadeh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-25 with total page 511 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reports on advanced theories and cutting-edge applications in the field of soft computing. The individual chapters, written by leading researchers, are based on contributions presented during the 4th World Conference on Soft Computing, held May 25-27, 2014, in Berkeley. The book covers a wealth of key topics in soft computing, focusing on both fundamental aspects and applications. The former include fuzzy mathematics, type-2 fuzzy sets, evolutionary-based optimization, aggregation and neural networks, while the latter include soft computing in data analysis, image processing, decision-making, classification, series prediction, economics, control, and modeling. By providing readers with a timely, authoritative view on the field, and by discussing thought-provoking developments and challenges, the book will foster new research directions in the diverse areas of soft computing.

Book Austrian Economics Tensions and New Directions

Download or read book Austrian Economics Tensions and New Directions written by Bruce J. Caldwell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When we first invited the group of distinguished scholars represented here to contribute to a new volume on Austrian economics, four themes were stressed: tensions, new directions, selectivity, and criticism. In this brief introduction we will explain why those themes were emphasized and thereby shed light on our intentions and aspirations for the volume. The subtitle "Tensions and New Directions" indicates clearly the intent of the volume desired. If we take the 1871 publication of Carl Menger's Principles of Economics (Grundsiitze der Volkswirthschaftslehre) as mark ing its birth, the Austrian tradition is now well over one hundred years old. The origins of the so-called "Austrian Revival" are more difficult to pinpoint precisely, but many would accept two decades as a reasonable estimate of its lifespan. In any case, since the mid-1970s several collections of articles written by Austrians have been published. The intent of these collections appeared to be to educate, persuade, and inspire various audiences. Uninformed readers needed to be told about the specifics of the Austrian position, to be shown how it differed from and improved upon its rivals. The initiated needed to be reassured that their commitment to a novel program was justified. As such, much of the recent Austrian literature has consisted either of exegetical accounts of the views of past figures, or of critical assessments of the positions of alternative research programs in economics from an Austrian perspective.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A free open access ebook is available upon publication. Learn more at www.luminosoa.org. Camera Palaestina is a critical exploration of Jerusalemite chronicler Wasif Jawhariyyeh (1904–1972) and his seven photography albums entitled The Illustrated History of Palestine. Jawhariyyeh’s nine hundred images narrate the rich cultural and political milieu of Ottoman and Mandate Palestine. Nassar, Sheehi, and Tamari locate this archive at the juncture between the history of photography in the Arab world and the social history of Palestine. Shedding new light on this foundational period, the authors explore not just major historical events and the development of an urban bourgeois lifestyle but a social field of vision of Palestinian life as exemplified in the Jerusalem community. Tracking the interplay between photographic images, the authors offer evidence of the unbroken field of material, historical, and collective experience from the living past to the living present of Arab Palestine.

Book New Directions in Counselling

Download or read book New Directions in Counselling written by Rowan Bayne and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-09-11 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New Directions in Counselling responds to major changes currently affecting counselling. A team of well-known contributors identify the pressures forcing change, taking into account national and European legislation and the drive from within counselling towards greater professionalism and accountability. Part one considers the impact of accredation, National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), developing Codes of Ethics and evaluating effectiveness. Part two looks at new interventions for common problems, such as smoking, depression, stress and abuse; new settings for counselling, including the workplace and medical practice; and new techniques, such as using narratives. The final part discusses issues in training, raising questions about the place of a feminist perspective and whether there are still myths about counselling which need to be challenged. New Directions in Counselling makes a timely response to questions affecting all counsellors, whether in training or practice.
