Book Algorithms and Data Structures

Download or read book Algorithms and Data Structures written by Frank Dehne and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-31 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers in this volume were presented at the Sixth Workshop on Algorithms and Data Structures (WADS '99). The workshop took place August 11 - 14, 1999, in Vancouver, Canada. The workshop alternates with the Scandinavian Workshop on Algorithms Theory (SWAT), continuing the tradition of SWAT and WADS starting with SWAT'88 and WADS'89. In response to the program committee's call for papers, 71 papers were submitted. From these submissions, the program committee selected 32 papers for presentation at the workshop. In addition to these submitted papers, the program committee invited the following researchers to give plenary lectures at the workshop: C. Leiserson, N. Magnenat-Thalmann, M. Snir, U. Vazarani, and 1. Vitter. On behalf of the program committee, we would like to express our appreciation to the six plenary lecturers who accepted our invitation to speak, to all the authors who submitted papers to W ADS'99, and to the Pacific Institute for Mathematical Sciences for their sponsorship. Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to all the people who reviewed papers at the request of the program committee. August 1999 F. Dehne A. Gupta J.-R. Sack R. Book Handbook of Computational Geometry

Download or read book Handbook of Computational Geometry written by J.R. Sack and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-12-13 with total page 1087 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational Geometry is an area that provides solutions to geometric problems which arise in applications including Geographic Information Systems, Robotics and Computer Graphics. This Handbook provides an overview of key concepts and results in Computational Geometry. It may serve as a reference and study guide to the field. Not only the most advanced methods or solutions are described, but also many alternate ways of looking at problems and how to solve them.

Book Advances in Digital and Computational Geometry

Download or read book Advances in Digital and Computational Geometry written by Reinhard Klette and published by Springer. This book was released on 1998-09 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital geometry deals with geometric properties of subsets of digital images or, equivalently, with geometric properties of finite sets of lattice points. Digital geometry can anticipate progress in imaging technology allowing higher and higher spatial resolution. It seems that the input data in both fields will "converge" to data embedded in digital arrays of very high spatial resolution.

Book Handbook of Discrete and Computational Geometry

Download or read book Handbook of Discrete and Computational Geometry written by Csaba D. Toth and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 1928 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Handbook of Discrete and Computational Geometry is intended as a reference book fully accessible to nonspecialists as well as specialists, covering all major aspects of both fields. The book offers the most important results and methods in discrete and computational geometry to those who use them in their work, both in the academic world—as researchers in mathematics and computer science—and in the professional world—as practitioners in fields as diverse as operations research, molecular biology, and robotics. Discrete geometry has contributed significantly to the growth of discrete mathematics in recent years. This has been fueled partly by the advent of powerful computers and by the recent explosion of activity in the relatively young field of computational geometry. This synthesis between discrete and computational geometry lies at the heart of this Handbook. A growing list of application fields includes combinatorial optimization, computer-aided design, computer graphics, crystallography, data analysis, error-correcting codes, geographic information systems, motion planning, operations research, pattern recognition, robotics, solid modeling, and tomography.

Book Parallel Computational Geometry

Download or read book Parallel Computational Geometry written by Selim G. Akl and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a unified, tutorial description of the most widely used models of parallel computation and their application to problems in computational geometry. Each chapter offers an in-depth analysis of a problem in computational geometry and presents parallel algorithms to solve them. Comparative tables summarize the various algorithms developed to solve each problem. A wide range of models of parallel computation to develop the algorithms - parallel random access machine (PRAM) - are considered, as well as several networks for interconnecting processors on a parallel computer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the reviews: "This book offers a coherent treatment, at the graduate textbook level, of the field that has come to be known in the last decade or so as computational geometry. ... ... The book is well organized and lucidly written; a timely contribution by two founders of the field. It clearly demonstrates that computational geometry in the plane is now a fairly well-understood branch of computer science and mathematics. It also points the way to the solution of the more challenging problems in dimensions higher than two." #Mathematical Reviews#1 "... This remarkable book is a comprehensive and systematic study on research results obtained especially in the last ten years. The very clear presentation concentrates on basic ideas, fundamental combinatorial structures, and crucial algorithmic techniques. The plenty of results is clever organized following these guidelines and within the framework of some detailed case studies. A large number of figures and examples also aid the understanding of the material. Therefore, it can be highly recommended as an early graduate text but it should prove also to be essential to researchers and professionals in applied fields of computer-aided design, computer graphics, and robotics." #Biometrical Journal#2

Book Geometric Approximation Algorithms

Download or read book Geometric Approximation Algorithms written by Sariel Har-Peled and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exact algorithms for dealing with geometric objects are complicated, hard to implement in practice, and slow. Over the last 20 years a theory of geometric approximation algorithms has emerged. These algorithms tend to be simple, fast, and more robust than their exact counterparts. This book is the first to cover geometric approximation algorithms in detail. In addition, more traditional computational geometry techniques that are widely used in developing such algorithms, like sampling, linear programming, etc., are also surveyed. Other topics covered include approximate nearest-neighbor search, shape approximation, coresets, dimension reduction, and embeddings. The topics covered are relatively independent and are supplemented by exercises. Close to 200 color figures are included in the text to illustrate proofs and ideas.

Book excerpt: This book provides an introduction to the mathematical and algorithmic foundations of data science, including machine learning, high-dimensional geometry, and analysis of large networks. Topics include the counterintuitive nature of data in high dimensions, important linear algebraic techniques such as singular value decomposition, the theory of random walks and Markov chains, the fundamentals of and important algorithms for machine learning, algorithms and analysis for clustering, probabilistic models for large networks, representation learning including topic modelling and non-negative matrix factorization, wavelets and compressed sensing. Important probabilistic techniques are developed including the law of large numbers, tail inequalities, analysis of random projections, generalization guarantees in machine learning, and moment methods for analysis of phase transitions in large random graphs. Additionally, important structural and complexity measures are discussed such as matrix norms and VC-dimension. This book is suitable for both undergraduate and graduate courses in the design and analysis of algorithms for data.
