Book Marx s Theory of Ideology RLE Marxism

Download or read book Marx s Theory of Ideology RLE Marxism written by Bhikhu Parekh and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-04-17 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although Marx’s concept of ideology has been a subject of considerable discussion, much of the debate has proved to be rather disappointing. There has been no systematic attempt to examine why Marx needed the concept of ideology, why it was an important concept for him and how it related to his views on truth and objectivity. This book, first published in 1982, considers these and other neglected questions. It explains why Marx continued to use the term ideology throughout his life to mean both idealism and apologia and traces the complex ways in which, according to Marx, such talented writers as Hegel became apologists. In conclusion the book outlines the lessons Marx learnt from his investigations into the nature and mechanism of ideology and discusses his theories of objectivity and truth.

Book Women and Sexuality in the Novels of Thomas Hardy

Download or read book Women and Sexuality in the Novels of Thomas Hardy written by Rosemarie Morgan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2006-04-07 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The women in Thomas Hardy's novels appear to have no control over their conduct or their destiny. In this book, Rosemarie Morgan argues a contrary case. Hardy's women struggle, sometimes winning, often losing, but they are not tame objects to be manipulated. Their resistance emerges in their sexuality, a quality which Hardy was often forced to cloak or disguise. Rosemarie Morgan resurrects Hardy's voluptuous heroines and restores to them the physical, sexual reality which Hardy sees as their birthright, but which the male-dominated world they inhabit seeks to deny them, both within and beyond the novel.

Book Essays in the Philosophy of Chemistry

Download or read book Essays in the Philosophy of Chemistry written by Eric Scerri and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-04-10 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The philosophy of chemistry has emerged in recent years as a new and autonomous field within the Anglo-American philosophical tradition. With the development of this new discipline, Eric Scerri and Grant Fisher's "Essays in the Philosophy of Chemistry" is a timely and definitive guide to all current thought in this field. This edited volume will serve to map out the distinctive features of the field and its connections to the philosophies of the natural sciences and general philosophy of science more broadly. It will be a reference for students and professional alike. Both the philosophy of chemistry and philosophies of scientific practice alike reflect the splitting of analytical and continental scholastic traditions, and some philosophers are turning for inspiration from the familiar resources of analytical philosophy to influences from the continental tradition and pragmatism. While philosophy of chemistry is practiced very much within the familiar analytical tradition, it is also capable of trail-blazing new philosophical approaches. In such a way, the seemingly disparate disciplines such as the "hard sciences" and philosophy become much more linked.

Book The Path to Perspective

Download or read book The Path to Perspective written by Neil David Martin and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2009 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Path to Perspective is nothing short of a manifesto for business in the new millennium, a classic account of why challenging assumptions is the starting point for successful companies in the 21st Century. In his first book Neil David Martin offers fresh and innovative thinking on the struggle to maximise performance in today's challenging business environment. "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want. Fix the roof while the sun shines. Short statements make us think. Reality is often very different from how we might first perceive it. Neil's new book explains exactly why perspective is so important to business. Sharpen your thinking tools with "The Path to Perspective". (Richard Grace, Serial Entrepreneur and former Senior Manager at Xerox) Together with a compelling vision of what our organisations could be, The Path to Perspective outlines a convincing case for people-first, values-driven, free thinking business, which begins with rethinking your company's practices and priorities. It is packed with over 40 powerful concepts and a step-by-step plan to help you translate the ideas in this book into meaningful practices for your business. The author also offers us several important and eye-opening insights, including: - Why most companies still struggle to differentiate, to attract and retain employees and customers, to maximise productivity, and to innovate successfully. - Why focusing on profit as the ultimate goal of your business is actually NOT the best way of maximising profits. - Why a focus on behaviours is NOT enough to bring about a shift in attitudes within your business.

Book Wittgenstein and Pragmatism

Download or read book Wittgenstein and Pragmatism written by Anna Boncompagni and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-20 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book investigates the conflicts concerning pragmatism in Wittgenstein’s work On Certainty, through a comparison with the pragmatist tradition as expressed by its founding fathers Charles S. Peirce and William James. It also describes Wittgenstein’s first encounters with pragmatism in the 1930s and shows the relevance of Frank Ramsey in the development of his thought. Offering a balanced, critical and theoretical examination the author discusses issues such as doubt, certainty, common sense, forms of life, action and the pragmatic maxim. While highlighting the objective convergences and divergences between the two approaches, the volume makes links to ongoing debates on relativism, foundationalism, scepticism and objectivity. It will be of interest to anyone searching for new perspectives on Wittgenstein’s philosophy.

From my experience, health care providers, caregivers and families dont understand how to properly care for older adults with multiple medical problems. As a society, we need to fifi nd more value in care giving. Furthermore, much too often what we see is distressing, dehumanizing and lonely deaths that have become the norm for older people, who are routinely subjected to tremendous unnecessary suffering and forced into conditions that rob them of their last shred of dignity. Useless tests and surgical procedures become the main focus of dying. A meaningful death experience where people gather to comfort and support the dying personis replaced by ceremonies of blood draws and invasive procedures. My dads last year of life drove this point home in a way that I could not ignore. ThTh is book follows his health care experience as a means of illustrating the challenges families face today when they try to help their loved ones navigate the health care system and their fifi nal years of life with dignity and comfort.
