Book excerpt: While the story of "HENRY" is not intended to convert, nor otherwise sway any disbelief or anonymous stance on the subjects of religion, reincarnation, or sexual preference, rather to consider the possibility of a resolution for the complexities of coincidence and any personal recurrent experience, in some unknown purpose often referred to as destiny. Or more aptly put, what would you do if this happened to you? Supposedly, a Victorian English priest in a religious scandal, and a pregnant parishioner's wrongful death were the reasons set forth by the invisible spirit for his provident return. Also, a necessary lesson in open-communication, in order to avert such similar incidents in the present. Although, a sister's thwarted suicide as a result of severities in contrast to her mother's lesbian lover, and a disquieted brother's subsequent guilt for his lack of insightful support may have been the real historical situation for the ghost's rather prominent concerns. My purpose was considerately threefold: to understand the paranormal episode or systemic experience from a sensible and realistic viewpoint, to unravel the possible identity of the spirit in question, and to purport the paranormal cause and effect as further evidence for the probability of life after death.

Gabe is one of seven Nephilim, newly arrived from the spirit world where they have been trapped for millennia. He has a violent history that haunts him, and a father he wants answers from—if he ever finds him. Harlan’s client has discovered a tomb that promises untold treasures. The only problem? He can’t get past the magic that seals it. Cue Shadow, Gabe, and the team. The trouble is, there’s more in the tomb than they expected, and soon the hunters become the hunted. Book Whisperers

Download or read book Whisperers written by J.H. Brennan and published by ABRAMS. This book was released on 2013-06-13 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “From the hair-raising to the eyebrow-raising, this is a scintillating account of meetings with spirits through history” (Mark Booth, New York Times–bestselling author). It may seem incredible, but as bestselling novelist and occult expert J.H. Brennan reveals in this eye-opening new history, there is a wealth of evidence to suggest that the disembodied voices of spirits may have subtly directed the course of human events. In Whisperers, Brennan explores how the “spirit world”—whether we believe in it or not—has influenced our own since the dawn of civilization. With a novelist’s flair and a scholar’s keen eye, Brennan details the supernatural affinities of world leaders from King Nebuchadnezzar to Adolf Hitler, showing how the decisions and policies of each have been shaped by their supernatural beliefs and encounters. Brennan also examines the impact of visions, from shamanism in native cultures to prophets such as Joan of Arc. Chronicling millennia of contact between the spirit world and our own, Whisperers presents an entirely new and different way to look at history. “Prolific Irish author and lecturer Brennan’s lifelong fascination with psychic phenomena fuels this comprehensive analysis of potential supernatural influences on history. . . . Certain hokum for skeptics, but the more open-minded will savor this chillingly convincing testimonial.” —Kirkus Reviews “J.H. Brennan is an expert storyteller who paints an often terrifying picture of how human destiny has regularly been changed forever by individuals convinced they were in communication with intelligences from beyond. In Whisperers, Brennan has created a unique and timely history of spirit voices that is both brilliant and utterly chilling.” —Andrew Donkin, coauthor of Illegal

As a child, Daniel Sempere discovered among the passageways of the Cemetery of Forgotten Books an extraordinary novel that would change the course of his life. Now a young man in the Barcelona of the late 1950s, Daniel runs the Sempere & Sons bookshop and enjoys a seemingly fulfilling life with his loving wife and son. Yet the mystery surrounding the death of his mother continues to plague his soul despite the moving efforts of his wife Bea and his faithful friend Fermín to save him. Just when Daniel believes he is close to solving this enigma, a conspiracy more sinister than he could have imagined spreads its tentacles from the hellish regime. That is when Alicia Gris appears, a soul born out of the nightmare of the war. She is the one who will lead Daniel to the edge of the abyss and reveal the secret history of his family, although at a terrifying price. The Labyrinth of the Spirits is an electrifying tale of passion, intrigue and adventure. Within its haunting pages Carlos Ruiz Zafón masterfully weaves together plots and subplots in an intricate and intensely imagined homage to books, the art of storytelling and that magical bridge between literature and our lives. 'For the first time in 20 years or so as a book reviewer, I am tempted to dust off the old superlatives and event to employ some particularly vulgar clichés from the repertoire of publishers' blurbs. My colleagues may be shocked, but I don't care, I can't help myself, here goes. The Shadow of the Wind is a triumph of the storyteller's art. I couldn't put it down. Enchanting, hilarious and heartbreaking, this book will change your life. Carlos Ruiz Zafón has done that exceedingly rare thing - he has produced, in his first novel, a popular masterpiece, an instant classic' Daily Telegraph
