Book The Genesis of Technoscientific Revolutions

Download or read book The Genesis of Technoscientific Revolutions written by Venkatesh Narayanamurti and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2021-11-16 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research powers innovation and technoscientific advance, but it is due for a rethink, one consistent with its deeply holistic nature, requiring deeply human nurturing. Research is a deeply human endeavor that must be nurtured to achieve its full potential. As with tending a garden, care must be taken to organize, plant, feed, and weedÑand the manner in which this nurturing is done must be consistent with the nature of what is being nurtured. In The Genesis of Technoscientific Revolutions, Venkatesh Narayanamurti and Jeffrey Tsao propose a new and holistic system, a rethinking of the nature and nurturing of research. They share lessons from their vast research experience in the physical sciences and engineering, as well as from perspectives drawn from the history and philosophy of science and technology, research policy and management, and the evolutionary biological, complexity, physical, and economic sciences. Narayanamurti and Tsao argue that research is a recursive, reciprocal process at many levels: between science and technology; between questions and answer finding; and between the consolidation and challenging of conventional wisdom. These fundamental aspects of the nature of research should be reflected in how it is nurtured. To that end, Narayanamurti and Tsao propose aligning organization, funding, and governance with research; embracing a culture of holistic technoscientific exploration; and instructing people with care and accountability.

Book The Archaeology of Political Organization

Download or read book The Archaeology of Political Organization written by Barbara L. Stark and published by Cotsen Institute of Archaeology Press. This book was released on 2022-01-01 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, Barbara Stark examines settlement in the coastal plain of lowland Mesoamerica, which was richly endowed with fertile soil and valued tropical resources such as jaguars, cacao, avian species with bright plumage, and cotton. The book provides basic archaeological data about regional settlement from three decades of survey research in south-central Veracruz in the western lower Papaloapan basin, a region with low density urbanism. The data reveals political and social change, with consolidation of wealth by elite families during the Late Classic period. The political analysis considers archaeological evidence related to several organizational principles: collective versus autocratic, corporate versus exclusionary/network, and segmentary (unspecialized versus specialized). Many variables related to these principles used by other scholars are either suited to historically documented states, not archaeological ones, or ambiguous. Many published studies either focus on a particular city or use documents or other evidence drawn from the top of the settlement hierarchy, characterizing the whole society politically from a biased sample. This political analysis is regional in scope and attentive to variation in the settlement hierarchy, providing a guidepost to analysis of political principles with archaeological data.

This book was released on 2007-08-01 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. In the process it created a pagan counterfeit Christianized Messiah. His research also reveals the incredible events which actually occured in the Garden of Eden: the forbidden fruit was a narcotic and aphrodisiac; when "high" Eve was seduced by Satan and gave birth to a child with mutated genes subsequently inherited by the whole of mankind. He also explains the causes of human disasters and suffering. This book will change your life.

Book Dracula s Vault A Collection of Vampiric Tales from the Pen of Bram Stoker

Download or read book Dracula s Vault A Collection of Vampiric Tales from the Pen of Bram Stoker written by Bram Stoker and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2019-02-15 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A chilling collection of classic gothic short stories written by Bram Stoker, all connected through the theme of vampires. “Gothic fiction” is a subgenre of Gothic horror that is defined by a combination of fiction writing with horror, death, and sometimes romance. It arguably originated from the 1764 novel “The Castle of Otranto” by English author Horace Walpole, which was subtitled “A Gothic Story” after the second edition. Abraham "Bram" Stoker (1847 – 1912) was an Irish author. He is best remembered for his 1897 Gothic novel “Dracula”, which introduced the world-famous character of Count Dracula and is responsible for various conventions of vampire fantasy that persist to this day. The tales include: 'Dracula', 'The Judge's House', 'The Burial of the Rats' and 'The Squaw'. Other notable works by this author include: “The Primrose Path” (1875), “The Snake's Pass” (1890), and “Seven Golden Buttons” (1891). This volume will appeal to lovers of Gothic literature and classic vampire literature. Many vintage books such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially-commissioned new biography of the author.
