Book Location Transport and Land Use

Download or read book Location Transport and Land Use written by Yupo Chan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-12-05 with total page 957 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1. Theme and focus Few books are available to integrate the models for facilities siting, transportation, and land-use. Employing state-of-the-art quantitative-models and case-studies, this book would guide the siting of such facilities as transportation terminals, warehouses, nuclear power plants, military bases, landfills, emergency shelters, state parks, and industrial plants. The book also shows the use of statistical tools for forecasting and analyzing implications of land-use decisions. The idea is that la- use on a map is necessarily a consequence of individual, and often conflicting, siting decisions over time. Since facilities often develop to form a community, these decisions are interrelated spatially—i. e. , they need to be accessible to one another via the transportation system. It is our thesis that a common methodological procedure exists to analyze all these spatial-temporal constructs. While there are several monographs and texts on subjects related to this book's, this volume is unique in that it integrates existing practical and theoretical works on facility-location, transportation, and land-use. Instead of dealing with individual facility-location, transportation, or the resulting land-use pattern individually, it provides the underlying principles that are behind these types of models. Particularly of interest is the emphasis on counter-intuitive decisions that often escape our minds unless deliberate steps of analysis are taken. Oriented toward the fundamental principles of infrastructure management, the book transcends the traditional engineering and planning disciplines, where the main concerns are often exclusively either physical design, fiscal, socioeconomic or political considerations.

Book Trends in Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis

Download or read book Trends in Multiple Criteria Decision Analysis written by Salvatore Greco and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-09-10 with total page 421 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multiple Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) is the study of methods and procedures by which concerns about multiple conflicting criteria can be formally incorporated into the management planning process. A key area of research in OR/MS, MCDM is now being applied in many new areas, including GIS systems, AI, and group decision making. This volume is in effect the third in a series of Springer books by these editors (all in the ISOR series), and it brings all the latest developments in MCDM into focus. Looking at developments in the applications, methodologies and foundations of MCDM, it presents research from leaders in the field on such topics as Problem Structuring Methodologies; Measurement Theory and MCDA; Recent Developments in Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimization; Habitual Domains and Dynamic MCDM in Changeable Spaces; Stochastic Multicriteria Acceptability Analysis; and many more chapters.

Book Sustainable Urban Development Volume 3

Download or read book Sustainable Urban Development Volume 3 written by Ron Vreeker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2009-01-21 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third volume of the Sustainable Urban Development Series outlines the BEQUEST toolkit that helps link protocol with the assessment methods currently available for evaluating the sustainability of urban development. It details the decision support mechanisms developed for users of the system to guide them in selecting the appropriate assessment methods for a variety of evaluations. This book provides case studies drawn from locations across Europe, and also provides best practice examples demonstrating those protocols that planners, property developers and design and construction professionals have followed, and how they have selected the assessment methods they need to best evaluate the sustainability of cities, districts, neighbourhoods and buildings.

Book Geographical Information and Planning

Download or read book Geographical Information and Planning written by John Stillwell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 454 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1990s have seen some remarkable changes in geographical information (GI) provision and computer technology that have impacted on many of the activities that constitute planning in all its different forms. However, relatively few texts in the field of geographical information systems (GIS) and planning have been published since Henk Scholten and John Stillwell edited Geographical Information Systems for Urban and Regional Planning in 1990. This volume seeks to redress the balance by showing how GI of various types is being used in urban, physical, environmental, socio-economic and business planning contexts at local, regional and national scales with the assistance of GIS and modelling methods, and how the uses of GI and GI technologies have evolved over the last decade. During this period, a number of meetings took place in Europe in different locations organised initially by European Geographical Information Systems (EGIS, 1990- 94) and more recently by the Joint European Conference and Exhibition (JEC) on Geographical Information (1995-97). These meetings brought together members of the GI community from across the world to discuss GI research and GIS applications. One of the Special Interest Groups associated with the JEC gatherings was that on 'Geographical Information and Planning' and several of the contributions in this book have their origins in papers presented to the group's meetings.

Book Carbon Neutrality Social Media Artificial Intelligence volume II

Download or read book Carbon Neutrality Social Media Artificial Intelligence volume II written by Rita Yi Man Li and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2023-10-20 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Carbon neutrality refers to net-zero carbon emissions. It can be achieved by reducing carbon emissions or increasing carbon adsorption. The popularity of social media including Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn provides good channels for sharing relevant information and promoting sustainable carbon-neutral living styles. For example, a motor company has launched social media challenges with Korean pop stars to raise awareness of carbon neutrality. Social media provides real-time information. In Jakarta, flood-related tweet intensity during a flood peaked at about 900 tweets a minute during the floods of 2015. The tweets created real-time maps that people sent a minute before. Regarding government policies, identification of problem areas is needed to help policymakers to resolve problems. Machine learning can monitor these events by studying past records to know how countries and governments performed in a high-risk event or environmental crisis and this data can be used to provide future recommendations to governments for policy making. Additionally, AI can analyze online unstructured data, and predict various scenarios of carbon emissions and adsorptions using structured data. The world of social media is a huge data source still yet to be fully optimized in science.
