Book Computational Techniques for Fluid Dynamics

Download or read book Computational Techniques for Fluid Dynamics written by Clive A. J. Fletcher and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 494 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As indicated in Vol. 1, the purpose of this two-volume textbook is to pro vide students of engineering, science and applied mathematics with the spe cific techniques, and the framework to develop skill in using them, that have proven effective in the various branches of computational fluid dy namics Volume 1 describes both fundamental and general techniques that are relevant to all branches of fluid flow. This volume contains specific tech niques applicable to the different categories of engineering flow behaviour, many of which are also appropriate to convective heat transfer. The contents of Vol. 2 are suitable for specialised graduate courses in the engineering computational fluid dynamics (CFD) area and are also aimed at the established research worker or practitioner who has already gained some fundamental CFD background. It is assumed that the reader is famil iar with the contents of Vol. 1. The contents of Vol. 2 are arranged in the following way: Chapter 11 de velops and discusses the equations governing fluid flow and introduces the simpler flow categories for which specific computational techniques are considered in Chaps. 14-18. Most practical problems involve computational domain boundaries that do not conveniently coincide with coordinate lines. Consequently, in Chap. 12 the governing equations are expressed in generalised curvilinear coordinates for use in arbitrary computational domains. The corresponding problem of generating an interior grid is considered in Chap. 13.

Book Computational Techniques for Fluid Dynamics 2

Download or read book Computational Techniques for Fluid Dynamics 2 written by Clive A.J. Fletcher and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 503 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose and organisation of this book are described in the preface to the first edition (1988). In preparing this edition minor changes have been made, par ticularly to Chap. 1 (Vol. 1) to keep it reasonably current, and to upgrade the treatment of specific techniques, particularly in Chaps. 12-14 and 16-18. How ever, the rest of the book (Vols. 1 and 2) has required only minor modification to clarify the presentation and to modify or replace individual problems to make them more effective. The answers to the problems are available in Solutions Manual jor Computational Techniques jor Fluid Dynamics by K. Srinivas and C. A. J. Fletcher, published by Springer-Verlag, Heidelberg, 1991. The computer programs have also been reviewed and tidied up. These are available on an IBM compatible floppy disc direct from the author. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many readers for their usually generous comments about the first edition and particularly those readers who went to the trouble of drawing specific errors to my attention. In this revised edi tion considerable effort has been made to remove a number of minor errors that had found their way into the original. I express the hope that no errors remain but welcome communication that will help me improve future editions. In preparing this revised edition I have received considerable help from Dr. K.

Book Numerical Study of the Effects of Icing on Viscous Flow Over Wings

Download or read book Numerical Study of the Effects of Icing on Viscous Flow Over Wings written by National Aeronautics and Space Adm Nasa and published by . This book was released on 2018-11-19 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An improved hybrid method for computing unsteady compressible viscous flows is presented. This method divides the computational domain into two zones. In the outer zone, the unsteady full-potential equation (FPE) is solved. In the inner zone, the Navier-Stokes equations are solved using a diagonal form of an alternating-direction implicit (ADI) approximate factorization procedure. The two zones are tightly coupled so that steady and unsteady flows may be efficiently solved. Characteristic-based viscous/inviscid interface boundary conditions are employed to avoid spurious reflections at that interface. The resulting CPU times are less than 60 percent of that required for a full-blown Navier-Stokes analysis for steady flow applications and about 60 percent of the Navier-Stokes CPU times for unsteady flows in non-vector processing machines. Applications of the method are presented for a rectangular NACA 0012 wing in low subsonic steady flow at moderate and high angles of attack, and for an F-5 wing in steady and unsteady subsonic and transonic flows. Steady surface pressures are in very good agreement with experimental data and are essentially identical to Navier-Stokes predictions. Density contours show that shocks cross the viscous/inviscid interface smoothly, so that the accuracy of full Navier-Stokes equations can be retained with a significant savings in computational time. Book Numerical Simulation of Compressible Navier Stokes Flows

Download or read book Numerical Simulation of Compressible Navier Stokes Flows written by Marie Odile Bristeau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the advent of super computers during the last ten years, the numerical simulation of viscous fluid flows modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations is becoming a most useful tool in Aircraft and Engine Design. In fact, compressible Navier-Stokes solvers tend to constitute the basic tools for many industrial applications occuring in the simulation of very complex turbulent and combustion phenomena. In Aerospace Engineering, as an exemple, their mathematical modelization requires reliable and robust methods for solving very stiff non linear partial differential equations. For the above reasons, it was clear that a workshop on this topic would be of interest for the CFD community in order to compare accuracy and efficiency of Navier-Stokes solvers on selected external and internal flow problems using different numerical approaches. The workshop was held on 4-6 December 1985 at Nice, France and organized by INRIA with the sponsorship of the GAMM Committee on Numerical Methods in Fluid Mechanics.
