Book excerpt: Anthon Houtsma graduated from Calvin College in 1967 and from Calvin Seminary in 1970 with the intention of becoming a pastor in the Christian Reformed Church. Unforeseen circumstances forced his life in a very different direction, however, to a career in the US Postal Service. Anthon is a Calvinist with an existential point of view. He desperately wants you to know that God loves every person in this world. The question is: How can the love of God offered in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ save us; how can that love of God redeem the soul of any man, woman, or child, giving them a desire to serve God with their hearts and minds and strength? It is only by the grace of God and through the existential exercise of our faith that we can be saved. “God is Love” (1 John 4:8). The attribute of love defines the purpose and goal of God with regard to all of humanity. God may hate sin, but He loves the sinner. God loves every single one of us, and He vows to raise us out of our selfish, quarrelsome lives of sin into a loving, brotherly, peaceful life of righteousness, if only we will believe. Out of love, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to live among us, to die for our sins, and to be raised for our justification and sanctification. The birth of Christ was God’s promise of love to you and me—that He would freely give us the gift of salvation in Jesus Christ if only we would sincerely ask Him for it. Jesus is the love of God that can redeem humanity. Because of God’s love and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, heaven can now be yours if you will only put your trust in the salvation of the cross and resurrection. Through faith in Jesus Christ, you can now have a new and glorious future in heaven. God’s love liberates! You can win!

Book Mom Me Mom

Download or read book Mom Me Mom written by Maya Angelou and published by Random House. This book was released on 2013-04-02 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A moving memoir about the legendary author’s relationship with her own mother. Emma Watson’s Our Shared Shelf Book Club Pick! The story of Maya Angelou’s extraordinary life has been chronicled in her multiple bestselling autobiographies. But now, at last, the legendary author shares the deepest personal story of her life: her relationship with her mother. For the first time, Angelou reveals the triumphs and struggles of being the daughter of Vivian Baxter, an indomitable spirit whose petite size belied her larger-than-life presence—a presence absent during much of Angelou’s early life. When her marriage began to crumble, Vivian famously sent three-year-old Maya and her older brother away from their California home to live with their grandmother in Stamps, Arkansas. The subsequent feelings of abandonment stayed with Angelou for years, but their reunion, a decade later, began a story that has never before been told. In Mom & Me & Mom, Angelou dramatizes her years reconciling with the mother she preferred to simply call “Lady,” revealing the profound moments that shifted the balance of love and respect between them. Delving into one of her life’s most rich, rewarding, and fraught relationships, Mom & Me & Mom explores the healing and love that evolved between the two women over the course of their lives, the love that fostered Maya Angelou’s rise from immeasurable depths to reach impossible heights. Praise for Mom & Me & Mom “Mom & Me & Mom is delivered with Angelou’s trademark good humor and fierce optimism. If any resentments linger between these lines, if lives are partially revealed without all the bitter details exposed, well, that is part of Angelou’s forgiving design. As an account of reconciliation, this little book is just revealing enough, and pretty irresistible.”—The Washington Post “Moving . . . a remarkable portrait of two courageous souls.”—People “[The] latest, and most potent, of her serial autobiographies . . . [a] tough-minded, tenderhearted addition to Angelou’s spectacular canon.”—Elle “Mesmerizing . . . Angelou has a way with words that can still dazzle us, and with her mother as a subject, Angelou has a near-perfect muse and mystery woman.”—Essence

Book excerpt: Author Charles Ford continues to examine the philosophy of choice in the spirit of poetry by existentialism. Many themes are included, such as alienation, God, death, love, and so on. Here the list of themes is not exhausted. The roots of these choices are grounded in the will of the individual rather than his/her reason. He/she confronts problems that are seen in the world, so by his/her actions disclose human nature and reflect his/her latent dispositions. This is where inner choices must arise, so external choices may be seen as actions per se. When these state-of-affairs are closely examined, they disclosed aspects of the human condition. Experiences that revealed that we are human beings touching various realms of reality. For our inner/external choices say something about our makeup, we are wonderfully composed, and dynamically active from moment-to-moment of our existence. In Hidden Fields Book 3, Charles has written lots of poems in a personal way. He invites the readers to come along, and experience reality both mentally and through their senses. Every reader will soon discover something about him/ her with respect to choices that were made that he/she is fleshly human and is real. Charles wants to share and invite the reader into his home now.

Book All That I Am with Thoughts and Dreams

Download or read book All That I Am with Thoughts and Dreams written by Tanya Lynn Walker and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-05-21 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In understanding who I am and the journey it took to get me from one point in my life to another, I have written this book of poetry as the link to a creative process of true and honest emotions. I am the force behind my own energy and fate. Through purpose and passion it is with joy and happiness I share my unshakeable truths. My world revolves around interpretations of rhythm and rhyme. While some may view these poems as thought-provoking, they are merely words of beauty and power that surround me in my space and time. The passion and light reflected in this book are responses to inspirations, tragedies, love, and faith, a way that helps me to connect with the modern reader. They are words that I have spoken and thought of in my mind and heart. Poetry is love in any language and because I am in love with life, I have written these love songs to those that have achieved something greater than the power of words. Poetry is wisdom and the humility that comes from wisdom. All the knowledge that I have gained from wisdom comes from heaven. I am but a lonely dreamer.

In Lieu of a funeral, I decided to publish this book about her life so that people will know what a wonderful person she was. We miss her, and we’ll see her in Jehovah’s kingdom soon.

  • ISBN : 1440837597
  • Pages : 214 pages

Download or read book Maya Angelou written by Mary Jane Lupton and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2016-01-18 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the extraordinary life and writings of Maya Angelou. It examines the changing viewpoints in her six autobiographies within the context of women's and African American autobiographies, with specific reference to the slave narrative and to contemporary fiction and film. Maya Angelou: The Iconic Self examines this iconic artist's work as an autobiographer, offering an up-to-date assessment of Angelou's contributions to American literature and to American and international culture. This is the only book to interpret Angelou's autobiographies as unique experiments in the history of black narrative. It attests to Angelou's creativity in transforming the typical single-volume autobiography into a six-volume personal and cultural adventure that tells the truth but reads like fiction. The narratives cover the years from the Great Depression (1941) to the days following the assassinations of Malcolm X (1965) and Martin Luther King (1968), emphasizing Angelou's roles as mother, daughter, granddaughter, wife, and friend. This revised edition also presents information about Maya Angelou's funeral and her continuing legacy since her death in 2014. The depth and scope of the book's observations regarding Angelou's autobiographies will be of great interest to readers seeking an analysis of the interconnections among Angelou's writings as well as serve students taking courses in women's studies or black culture studies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do you need to do to change yourself? I’ve got a big surprise for you. You don’t have to do anything. The more you do, the worse it gets. —Anthony DeMello The essence of this work is to bring self-observation to your life and identify the mind-made narratives that are serving as an obstacle for you to experience your true potential and ability to be at peace with your journey. Inspired by the spiritual teachings of Eckhart Tolle, Anthony de Mello, and many others, this book is meant to be a wake-up call for your soul in the hopes of making you realize that you have given away your power to others, and this is the main reason that life might not be feeling complete. The moment you take your power back, you can be at peace, in love and happiness, regardless of your circumstances. This book is written in short chapters that focus on most areas of our lives. Brandt will share with you insights, stories, and exercises that will make you aware of how asleep we can all be by following the road map of society. Every section is an eye-opener to how, over time, we have forgotten who we are and what we want, and by looking inward every day we can start prioritizing our unique mission in this lifetime. Book We Want to Do More Than Survive

Download or read book We Want to Do More Than Survive written by Bettina L. Love and published by Beacon Press. This book was released on 2019-02-19 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2020 Society of Professors of Education Outstanding Book Award Drawing on personal stories, research, and historical events, an esteemed educator offers a vision of educational justice inspired by the rebellious spirit and methods of abolitionists. Drawing on her life’s work of teaching and researching in urban schools, Bettina Love persuasively argues that educators must teach students about racial violence, oppression, and how to make sustainable change in their communities through radical civic initiatives and movements. She argues that the US educational system is maintained by and profits from the suffering of children of color. Instead of trying to repair a flawed system, educational reformers offer survival tactics in the forms of test-taking skills, acronyms, grit labs, and character education, which Love calls the educational survival complex. To dismantle the educational survival complex and to achieve educational freedom—not merely reform—teachers, parents, and community leaders must approach education with the imagination, determination, boldness, and urgency of an abolitionist. Following in the tradition of activists like Ella Baker, Bayard Rustin, and Fannie Lou Hamer, We Want to Do More Than Survive introduces an alternative to traditional modes of educational reform and expands our ideas of civic engagement and intersectional justice.

Eugenia Price has long been recognized for her ability to understand the modern Christian woman's problems. Book The Woman Within

    Book Details:
  • Author : Rafael E. Lopez-Corvo
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2018-03-22
  • ISBN : 0429922795

Download or read book The Woman Within written by Rafael E. Lopez-Corvo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although it is quite possible that many will consider this book irreverent or disrespectful of ideas or institutions, the author is certain that they will also perceive it as a defender of women and their unquestionable transcendence throughout history. The main ideas the author now shares publicly, are ones the author has considered for many years: the classification of the 'Eves', the masochistic character of women, the concept of giraffe women, etc.. Other ideas appeared afterwards, some at the last moment, as the author enjoyed the company of friends, who frequently and generously lend their time to discuss with me their own opinions... the author believes that there is a universal feminine principle just as there is a masculine one, the difference remains in the fact that, from the very beginning of creation, everything about man has already been said and nothing continues to be undisclosed, whereas woman, is an untold story yet to be discovered.
