Book excerpt: 'Heather, you can't create life...' This was the message Heather DeJesus Yates, speaker and author of All The Wild Pearls, heard every month pregnancy tests came back negative. 'If you feel like everyone else can create life, except you - you know what it feels like to be the barren woman.' Since ancient times, to be barren was to be cursed. For couples struggling with infertility today, it can feel like nothing has changed. But there is hope for the barren womb...the impossible is possible now...all thanks to an empty tomb! In her characteristic way of drawing hope from God's tiniest creations, Heather shares her personal journey with infertility grief, even giving her husband control of some of the pages - and introduces you to a barren plant that changed everything. 'In God's economy a barren plant can take over a yard, and a barren woman can be a mother...even a mother of thousands!' The creative God of all things plant and person can bring revolution from the barren. Where we see an inability to bring life - whether it's through a broken soul or a broken womb - God sees potential for generations seated at our farmhouse tables in our forever family. Offering hope within a community of real womens' stories with infertility, A Mother of Thousands is the empathetic friend you want and the hopeful path out of broken dreams you need. This is the book I was looking for years ago, but couldn't find. So I wrote it. This is for the revolutionary - for you, mama - who just may not see it yet.

Download or read book Mother of All Living written by Andrew Roy and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2007-04 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book releases the true power of the woman in the church and opens the doors that have locked out the regaining of mankind's dominion. The distinct power of a woman who has a Godly understanding of her maternal authority. A maternal authority that does not threaten, but will be acknowledged and enhanced, by the paternal authority of the man. This book will remind the woman of her God given authority, as the "Mother of all Living"; and it will reestablish her position next to the man. It will answer the question of women Pastors and women Elders in the church. It will help the man understand the beauty and the value of this gift that God has given him; a woman of power who will help to cultivate, and ultimately validate their positions at one another's side; and that dominion cannot be regained without her. The author of this book is a Professor at the Greater Harvest Bible College and Seminary, in California; a branch of the International College of Bible Theology. He has been a Pastor/Elder and a Teacher of the Word of God for the past twenty years. His secular education includes a Masters Degree in Psychology, with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT). His primary theological emphasis is in the area of Biblical Doctrine and Biblical Theology. He is a recognized authority on Church Organization and has lectured extensively on the releasing of the true power of the woman in the Church. He is a true believer that the ultimate power and authority in the home and in the Church, comes from the interdependent relationship of the man and the woman; and when separate and apart, the power and authority (including the power to co-exist) of that relationship diminishes.

Book excerpt: And you think your mom is too involved? Meet the mother of all mothers in this “hilarious” memoir (North Shore News). Adam Chester is the son of a very loving mom, who for almost thirty years has peppered his life with unsolicited advice, news updates, and opinions in the form of thousands of inappropriate, embarrassing, and utterly crazy letters. Here, he presents a selection of her correspondence showing the pathological extremes maternal instincts can take. Why is a grown woman so frantic that her adult son screw on his windows to keep out killer bees? Is Adam at imminent risk of frostbite should he ever decide to visit San Francisco? And are adult trick-or-treaters really that much of a threat? With time, perspective, and plenty of therapy, Adam acknowledges and accepts the comedy of it all—and in this book he shares his story of an unforgettable mom who gives “overprotective” a whole new meaning.

Book Allusions in Ulysses

Download or read book Allusions in Ulysses written by Weldon Thornton and published by UNC Press Books. This book was released on 1968 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive list of allusions found in James Joyce's modern classic, Ulysses, is in itself a classic and is a feat of literary scholarship of unprecedented magnitude. In brief, this book is a copiously annotated list of Joyce's allusions in such areas as literature, philosophy, theology, history, and the fine arts. So awesome an undertaking would not have been possible without the prior work of such persons as Stuart Gilbert, Joseph Prescott, William York Tindall, M.J.C. Hodgart, Mabel Worthington, and many others. But the present list is more than a compilation of previously discovered allusions, for it contains many allusions that have never been suggested before, as well as some that have only been partially or mistakenly identified in earlier publications. In preparing this work, the author has kept its usefulness to the reader foremost in mind. He often refreshed the reader's memory in concerning the context of an allusion, since its context, in one sense or another, is always the guide to its function in the novel. The entire list is fully cross-referenced and keyed by page and line to both the old and new Modern Library editions of Ulysses. In addition, the index is prepared in such a way that it indexes not only the List but also the novel itself. The purpose of allusion in a literary work is essentially the same as that of all other types of metaphor -- the development and revelation of character, structure, and theme -- and, when skillfully used, it does all of these simultaneously. Joyce's use of allusion is distinguished from that of other authors not by its purposes, but by its extent and thoroughness. Ulysses involves dozens of allusive contexts, all continually intersecting, modifying, and qualifying one another. Here again Joyce's uniqueness and complexity lie not in his themes or characters, nor in his basic methods of developing them, but in his accepting the challenge of an Olympian use of his chosen methods. The value of this volume to Joyce scholars and students is obvious; however, its usefulness to anyone who reads Ulysses is as great, if not greater. It can truly be the key to this difficult but rewarding novel.

Book excerpt: A novel approach to Israelite kinship, arguing that maternal kinship bonds played key social, economic, and political roles for a son who aspired to inherit his father’s household Upending traditional scholarship on patrilineal genealogy, Cynthia Chapman draws on twenty years of research to uncover an underappreciated yet socially significant kinship unit in the Bible: “the house of the mother.” In households where a man had two or more wives, siblings born to the same mother worked to promote and protect one another’s interests. Revealing the hierarchies of the maternal houses and political divisions within the national house of Israel, this book provides us with a nuanced understanding of domestic and political life in ancient Israel.

Book The Mother of the Lord

    Book Details:
  • Author : Margaret Barker
  • Publisher : Bloomsbury Publishing
  • Release : 2012-09-27
  • ISBN : 0567378616
  • Pages : 422 pages

Download or read book The Mother of the Lord written by Margaret Barker and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2012-09-27 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Are there Old Testament roots of the veneration of the Blessed Virgin Mary? Margaret Barker traces the roots of the devotion to Mary as Mother of the Lord back to the Old Testament and the first temple in Jerusalem. The evidence is consistent over more than a millennium: there had been a female deity in Israel, the Mother figure in the Royal cult, who had been abandoned about 600BCE. She was almost written out of the Hebrew text, almost excluded from the canon. This first of two volumes traces the history of the Lady in the Temple, and looks forward to the second volume in which Barker will show how the Lady of the Temple is reclaimed in the advent of Christianity, and becomes the Lady in the Church. The result is breathtaking, and like all Barker's work, is impossible to put down.
